Kath, Don't jump to a Dublin / Cavan location too quickly. My Carolans are from Co. Tyrone, where there are a LOT of Carolans, and very few of them show up in the IGI, assuming that's the FamilySearch database you refer to. Patricia, I have Carolans from Meenachrane, Co. Tyrone and Philadelphia, PA; Farrells from Waterford and Philadelphia (no connection between them -- the Carolans are on one side of the family, the Farrells on the other). Highly unlikely we'd be connected, as neither is an uncommon name, but seeing the two together in your post did make me wonder. Patricia, As for your question -- No one could easily look up this cert for you without knowing the year and borough. You are pretty sure your Margaret Farrell would have died in Manhattan; did you find the possible cert number in an index and was it for Manhattan? the index should tell you the year, too. Not in Rhode Island. I have written to many city clerks office's in Mass., NY, NJ and never had any problems. Try asking for your own as well as your Mom's. Enclose a check for the correct amount and a stamped return envelope. I got a copies of my father's brothers & sister from New Bedford, Mass. without any problems. I had to wait a few weeks but I got what I needed. I have transcribed the tithe applotments for the Ballyadams Civil Parish (1824) and they are on the County Leix section of my website. This is a large tithe applotment with around 300 names, and includes many Whelans, Brennans, Dunnes, Fennells, Greenes, Kellys, Lalors etc. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
I have added the following County Kilkenny tithe applotments to the County Kilkenny section of my website: Ballycallan Civil parish, 1833 Ballybur Civil parish, 1828 The tithe applotments are much like the Giffith's Valuation, in that they only mention the head of the household, but they can give you an idea if you family lived there at that time period. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
Name: Solomon Buckley Marriage Date: 1881 Marriage Place: Manhattan, New York, New York Marriage ID: 2220846123 Certificate Number: 4646 Other Comments: See Family History Library catalog for films 1543971-1562446 (Manhattan) and Film 1653852 (Brooklyn), for actual certificate. Source: Marriage Registers, Extracts from Manhattan (1869-1880) and Brooklyn (1895-1897) Publisher: Dept. of Health, Division of Vital Statistics, New York. Publication Place: New York, NY I'm not sure who he married, but that's what I got from ancestry.com. Now for Daniel, there were the following: Daniel Buckley married date 1884 manhattan. Daniel Buckley married 1885 Manhattan, Daniel Buckley m. Catharine Battrsbee 1889 Manhattan, Daniel G. Buckley married 1884 Manhattan. As for John, there are 15 marraiges in the mid to late 1800's in NYC and Manhattan. There were 6 recorded marraiges for a "Mary Buckley" in and around NYC from 1888 onward, and 1 in 1878. As to getting the certificates at ancestry.com there is a button for "order original certificate. These records seem to be through the Vital Check network. It seems that in order to order it you must know both husband and wife's names, and the date of the marraige. If you don't know the exact dates then I think looking for a Family History Library catalog would be of some use. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Susan Regan
I have added the following tithe applotments to the County Tipperary section of my website: Ballybacon Civil Parish, South Riding, 1827 Ballycahill Civil Parish, North Riding, 1834 Ballyclerahan Civil Parish, South Riding, 1831 The Tithe Applotments are much like the Griffith Valuation, in that they only list only the head of household. But they help to see if your family was living in the area at the time. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
