Another thought? on the subject of the pastor of church where Susan is looking for info......is it possible that the address she has for the pastor is "HIS" The address, not necessarily the place of the church address. Not all rectories/parsons houses may have been right next to the church, at that time.. There is only one Nenagh in the Book and it's in Tipperary. No "Neangh". Bob
for years I have been trying to find my ggrandmother's birthplace.? Had a hand written note that said "Neangh" County Antrim....Do you think it could have been Nenagh, Tipperary??? Her name was Jane Louise Lewis Born May 7, and here again there are conflicting dates....1840--1846--1854.? Tradition says she came to an aunt in Canada and then to the US.? J. There is a big distance between Antrim and Tipperary counties. I check all the townlands in County Antrim beginning with the letter N and none look like Neangh. Also no civil or RC parishes with that name or any name similar in spelling. There were Lewises in the Nenagh tithes so it might be an area to explore. If you go here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ put Lewis in the surname search box, you will find that for the Griffith's Valuation (ca 1850s) the counties with the most Lewises were Antrim and Tipperary. Getting to your handwritten note, who wrote it? Family lore is sometimes very correct and other time way off the mark. My father was born in his grandfather house and raise by him and told me his grandfather was born in Australia. To my surprise when I started my family genealogy, I found he was born in Ireland, County Armagh. I even found his baptism record there! Now, I am thinking he may have gone to Australia before going to the USA and the story became mangled over time. Terry, Could you have her send me the image. There was a Catholic church around that time in that area who had a pastor whose name might be mis-read as Janes. Answer to Question: "Fourth Avenue no longer exists in NYC. I believe that is Madison Avenue, just east of 5th Avenue" Could that possibly be St. Patrick's? Thanks so much! Susan

I am happy to say the 3rd ward of this census is now online on the Troy section of my website. (If you had trouble getting into the site today, ATT had server problems, sorry for the inconvenience.) This is a small ward with 1,948 individuals, in 238 dwellings and 288 families. The great people to thank for taking time out of their lives to transcribe the census pages of this ward are Kay Brearton, Terry Bora, Lynn Grice, Sharon King, Earl Smith, Bob McConihe, Gary Craver. They are to be thanked. If you would like to help with this census project, please contact me off the list. All the pages for the 4th ward are assigned and we are well into the 5th ward. There are only 10 wards in the 1865 census, so we are almost half way through. PS Read the notes for this ward, we had different kinds of problems with it besides the usual problems with handwriting and spelling. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
Hello, I used to live in Manhattan, on 33rd.St. between second and third ave. There was a small church on 30Th. st. which I have forgotten the name. It was very small but I will try and check it out.
