I have added to the various county sections of my website, the following tithe applotments: County Tipperary: St Johnstown Civil Parish, St Johnbaptist Civil Parish County Limerick: St Lawrence Civil Parish County Kilkenny: St John's Civil Parish, St Canice Civil Parish Also added to County Tipperary section are townland maps for the following civil parishes: St Johnstown, St Johnbaptist -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
I just put online (the Tipperary section of my website) the 2nd half of 1853. I have the sessions divided by quarter because of the volume of cases. A quarter runs more than 500 cases, many are adjourned to another day, so you will find a some cases repeated often. Since I have not chosen to to sort the data by name, and have kept it by date like what is in the record, if you don't have the time to search by date, use the Google search engine on the Tipperary page. However, the names are listed by last name, first name, so you should put the name in the index as Connors, Timothy not Timothy Connors. One of the cases I found interesting in this group, is how a person was charged for leaving his job before his contract with the employer was up. Again, many were jailed for debts and stealing potatoes.... Oh, I almost forget to mention...if you find a case of interest, check out the film because I haven't listed the charges or outcomes (dismiss, fine, jail...). Also, the clerks didn't know how to spell the townland names and many times the handwriting was so, that I couldn't make out the letters, so I stress check the film.... -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
I will send a note to the webmaster at Castle Garden. I want to know what is going on here too. I too have been to this site and where I could get a list last time I can only get one (1) name. To get more I have to pay. Has Ancestry taken over this site also??
Good- please post whatever the response is. Ann
Judy, Have to agree with you that something IS awry. Have you tried emailing the webmaster for Castle Garden? Ann
I had already seen his date of arrival and had seen the manifest of the ship so I knew he was there at one time. Went back in to print out Michael O'Bs info and he was gone. Something is arwy here. Judy, The marriage certificate may be spelled correctly, but that does not mean his name is spelled correctly on the ship's manifest. Ann
I have Michael O'Briens marriage certifcate and the name was spelled correctly. I was wondering if this same trick would work on the Castle Garden site? Mike
Pat, I had the same problem with the castlegarden.org site. Went in to retrieve my gr-grandfathers certificarte and it was gone. Did a search and there were only about 6 Michael O'Briens that came into the US. Pat: RE: " Today's Topics:" "1. Irish emigration in 1880 (Pat Connors)" Was happy to see your posting regarding Castle Garden, as I was recently very suprized when going to the site, after having visited it and used it so often. Am I correct in that all the search options have all been changed, or am I doing something wrong? I do not remember having seen or read anything about the organization making any changes. Oh well, it must be me! thanks, colleen
"I was looking for a McGuinness and only a few came up, so I put a space between the Mc and the G and quite a few more came up." --Grace Try Grace's space after the prefix trick on any searches you perform--that is the only way I found my McNulty great-grands in the 1880 census on Ancestry.com--their family members in the same town were transcribed with NO space after Mc, but they alone got transcribed with a space; they ONLY show in results for searches typed with the space. Another trick I have found to be useful is starting a name with an asterisk in a search. For some reason, very clearly written in the 1900 census is the last name Corgaughran for some of my Gaughran ancestors. A search for Gaughran NEVER gave this family in its results. Using *Gaughran as a search also brings out many more close spellings, misspellings, and mistranscriptions, and not just those that have a prefix at the front end. Best wishes! *Cathy
Judy, Did you use variations of the names Michael, and O'Brian? I've found that many of my ancestors' papers had the names spelled differently, sometime in the same document. Ann
Judy, Also, try a space between the O and B. I was looking for a McGuinness and only a few came up, so I put a space between the Mc and the G and quite a few more came up. Good luck. Here is a link, passed on to me, for a website that has an article that ran in 1880 in the St Louis Post Dispatch, that Irish genealogists and history buffs will find interesting. http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?action=detail&id=70157 You can search for Irish emigrants at the Castle Garden website. It is a pre-Ellis Island immigration center covering 1855 to 1890 but the site also has passenger lists going back to 1820. http://www.castlegarden.org/ Here's how I use the site. First I put in the name and with the results, I chose a few that fit my ancestor. I write down the initial info. I then do another search and this time I write in just the ship and year the ship docked. Then I get the full passenger list and can check who else came over with my person of interest. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
I have added two new civil parish tithe applotments to my website. They are Tullycorbet CP in County Monaghan and Tullymellan CP in County Tipperary, South Riding. The new addition of Tullymellan, completes all the tithes for the Iffa & Offa Barony in County Tipperary and I am currently working on an index for it, much like I have for Clanwilliam and Killnamanagh Lower baronies. I should have it online by tomorrow. I do have Google search engines connected to the site also, for easy searching. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
What a great suggestion. I will do that today before I mail in the Census. Most of us in the US are getting 2010 US Census Forms in our mail boxes this week. I have a suggestion for you. After you have filled them out, but before you send them in, make a copy and put it in your genealogy file. Once you drop it in that mail box, no one in you family will be allowed to know what you wrote until 2082. If, however, you put it in you file, your family will be able to have it any time you see fit. JIM
