As long as you have all your documentation in order and you have deep pockets, you should be fine. It's now $1,325 for the (dubious) privilege of citizenship, and $111 for the passport. And the fees might go up in this budget, who knows? The government could certainly use the money! I just got my hands on something that I wish I had when I started out my Irish genealogy research. It is a handy guide written by Brian Mitchell and called, Genealogy at a glance, Irish Genealogy Research. In a nutshell it lists the basics of Irish research and available records and where they can be found. Contents include: Quick Facts, Irish Emigration Background, Unlocking Irish Family History, Record Sources, Census Returns, Record Repositories and Other Online Resource. It is concise, taking only four pages and encased in plastic for durability. Plus, it is reasonably priced. You can check it out here: http://www.genealogical.com/products/Genealogy at a Glance Irish Genealogy Research/3866. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
Thanks, Karen. Sorry they are down, but glad it is not my computer. Don't think it's just you - they're both timing out for me, too. Karen > (Oklahoma) > > > Is it me or are the SeanRuad.com and the Leitrim-Roscommon.com websites > down? > > > >
Is it me or are the SeanRuad.com and the Leitrim-Roscommon.com websites down? -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
Greetings- I am in the process of applying for Irish citizenship and an EU passport based on my Irish-born maternal grandparents. Could those of you who have successfully completed this process offer advice or suggestions? Thanks, P. F. Spencer
I know I sent around this info before but it is worth reminding all about those free online genealogy classes over on the FamilySearch.org website. They have added more and are getting great reviews. Go to the site: http://wwwfamilysearch.org Click on Free Online Classes Enjoy. I am going to do the Ireland Research this weekend. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento, CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
Michael Cavanagh was born in Cappoquin in 1822 and died in NY in 1900. He left Ireland in 1849 accompanied by Hugh Collender and Dan Mc Grath, having taken part in 1848 uprising. They along with others attacked the British Military barracks in Cappoquin. They were wanted men and were never able to return to Ireland. When Collender died in 1890, Cavanagh wrote an extensive obituary in the Worcester Messenger over several weekly editions. We have located the obituary exceptint the part published in the edition of 24 May 1890. We are unable to locate this particular edition. The Michael Cavanagh Society is currently publishing a collection of Cavanagh's works (about 360 pages)and all profits will go to the local national school in Cappoquin. Anyone know of the particular edition of the Worcester Messenger of 24 May 1890 regards, -- Tony Mc Carthy
I have a document with links to resources for improving the security of your PC and will gladly send to anyone who requests this off-list (connell@nycap.rr.com) Here's just one reputable link you might find useful: http://www.staysafeonline.org/tools-resources/free-security-check-ups Christine Connell /*October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month*/
I checked this site out and it offers a number of online free checkups and I'd be careful of them. If you don't have virus protection for your computer it is better to buy some. I use Zone Alarm and I am very confident with it. However, these do not help when you are in a program, like Facebook, that automatically copies your Address Book, when you sign up. They were noted for their bad security and that was where my address book got broken into. Here's just one reputable link you might find useful: -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA, list admin http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
especially with a list like this the safest thing to do is not click on a link, unless it makes sense to you, but most of us on this list will not post links. Maybe there should be a rule where as if we are to send a link we do it spaced out like www. yahoo. com and then delete the spaces? just a thought. I myself received a terrible virus from facebook in an email from an old history teacher ... thought it was odd he would send me an email with a link, clicked on it anyways, and was instantly infected. It cost me over 300 to fix this "worm" as it was called. I have Norton and luckily it scans this email so I didn't even receive the message. I looked through my spam folder once and found an email from my yahoo account to this one about prescriptions, I never sent that! Spam is horrible, unless you are expecting an email with a link in it you should never click on the link.... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Connors" <nymets11@pacbell.net> To: "ny irish" <ny-irish-l@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 07, 2010 5:31 PM Subject: [NY-IRISH] ADMIN MSG: spam email sent > The list just posted an email with the subject, "hello friend". The list just posted an email with the subject, "hello friend". Do NOT click on the link in the body of the email, it is spam and could also infect your computer. Since I have had this happen to me when I signed up on Facebook, I know the 'so-called' poster is upset. His address was spoofed and made to look like the email was from him but it wasn't. This is a good time to warn: if you ever get an email, either personally sent to your email address or one posted to a list with just a link in the body, be suspicious and just delete it. As a list admin, I stop most before they hit the lists but they are getting trickier and some get through the filters. So, if you join a social program, like Facebook, beware that they copy your Address Book from your computer. Then if they have poor security, scoundrels from all over the world hack into them and get all those email address and send out the spam emails with the person's email address. Also, be careful when you go to websites through search engines, even Google. Some searches will take to sites that can infect a virus in your computer. Only go to sites that you know are safe. While the current post to the list is not open to discuss, discussing this problem is open, especially if one wants to offer ways on how to keep our computers secure. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento, CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

Try this link: http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/troy/#lookups I haven't had the time this week to add more but will try to do so today. I have just uploaded to the County Tipperary section of my website my transcription of the Moyaliff Civil Parish tithe applotments. Since I now have all of the Kilnamanagh Upper Barony civil parish tithes transcribed, I created an index for the barony to facilitate quicker lookups. First go to the barony index (under the Tipperary North Riding map), and look for your name(s) to find the civil parish in the index. Once you have the civil parish, then check out the parish's tithes. They will give the townland. This barony has lots and lots of Ryans and many include their nicknames which is helpful when looking for a Ryan. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento, CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
"Has your MetroCard expired?...every MetroCard has an expiration date. The date is located at the upper left corner on the back of the card. The expiration date is usually about one year from the date of purchase...you have two years from the expiration date to transfer any remaining money to a new card.
