    3. Thanks, Dee, for your mention of my dear friend, Walter. Sadly, Walter passed away on 13 July 2012. I thought I forwarded all of his posts to his twin daughters, but found a handful just yesterday. Ironically, this is one of his last posts, and may just be what Susan Leland was looking for. 3. Thanks, too Kathleen. I probably have to research it deeper. My question was quick, but not complete. I was wondering if Hart Island was ever considered to be part of Westchester County. When I've read about it, it's one of those tough to label places, that may have changed over time. 1. [NY-IRISH] TV "Who Do You Think You Are?" INFO
    2. mizscarlettny via
    3. Dear Friends: The 2014 new series of "Who Do You Think You Are?" is on TLC-TV. http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/who-do-you-think-you-are That's "The Learning Channel." It airs on Wednesday nights at 9pm, eastern time. Here, repeats of earlier episodes show before and after the night's new airing. If you go to this link on Wednesdays, your local listings appear for that day> http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/tv-schedule.htm "TV Guide" still exists but, but comes out every other week. If you can't find it call your TV provider. You can file a request. After each new episode airs, you can view it on your computer on Utube. Suggest that you do a Google search for the 2014 season on Utube.com There are newer ways to watch TV now. One is called "streaming." You pay per show, it comes through your computer. You may need to register or set up your computer beforehand. Does anyone know more than I do about alternative ways to watch TV shows? I hope this helps. Barb

I HAVE TO SEARCH THRU THE WHOLE LIST OF PROGRAMS FOR THE "PBS" STATION "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE" WOULD BE ON AS THE CABLE COMPANIES SEEM TO CHANGE THINGS/STATIONS QUITE A BIT, AND THERE ARE NO TV GUIDES (ANYONE REMEMBER THEM?) OR ANOTHER PROGRAM WILL BE ON THE PBS STATION, BUT THE "WHO YOU ARE " WILL BE MENTIONED IN AN AD AT SOME POINT, BUT NOT ON WHEN YOU TRY FOR IT. THEN OF COURSE IF THERE IS A STORM WITH LIGHTENING, YOU MAY NOT GET ANY TV, AS IT HAS BEEN FOR THESE LAST FEW MONTH, NO ELECTRICITY IT SEEMS WITH THESE STORMS FOR 6-8 HOURS. AND WITH SOME CABLE COMPANIES NO PHONE SERVICE EITHER IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A "LAND LINE". On Aug 8, 2014, at 8:40 AM, Kathleen Scarlett O'Hara Naylor via <[email protected]> wrote: > Barb! Dear Friends, Besides the thrill of the hits, there are always techniques, or geographic bits'o info, or cultural stuff to glean from watching "Who Do You Think You Are?", even last night's new show. I watch each episode at least twice, and take notes. http://blog.eogn.com/2014/08/06/who-do-you-think-you-are-with-rachel-mcadams-kayleen-mcadams/ If you don't have TV access, or missed part of the show, you can find it on utube, after each new episode airs. In terms of our Irish, aspects that are curious to me from last night's new show are "life as a servant," geography/history of life in Canada (the stopover for many of our Irish), types of existent Canadian records, and generic pressures on residents/land owners of a new country at war. You can tweak the educational milieu of these issues to better imagine the lives of your ancestors. Barb

    1. [NY-IRISH] 1857 TARRYTOWN: BOKER's dau marries Irish Coachman DEAN
    2. mizscarlettny via
    3. The Memphis Daily Appeal published in Memphis, TN March 19 1857 MARRYING HER COACHMAN--The New York Express gives the following account of the marrying of the daughter of a wealthy merchant to her father's coachman: ''An Irishman named John Dean has just issued legal proceedings in New York to get possession of his alleged wife, who is the daughter of his employer, named Boker, an extensive importer of wine and liquors. The young lady is 22 years old, and Dean's affidavit alleges that she is shut up in her father's house against her will, and that he was married to her on the 4th instant, by Rev. Mr. Hatfield. It appears that Mr. Boker has a place at Tarrytown, and Dean is his coachman. During the absence of Mr. B. in this city attending to his business, Dean was in the habit of taking the daughter out riding is her father's carriage, and through this kind of intercourse, according to Dean's story, became enamored of each other, which fact coming to the ears of Mr. B., he dismissed the coachman from his service. Dean, through a family servant, found means, however, of communicating with Mary, and being in the city on the occasion referred to, he met her by appointment, and they were secretly married. http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/link.php?action=detail&id=123459
