This is the only time my Catholics appear in any Irish searches. This is the first data I found since returning from Ireland with his son's Baptismal, five years ago! Dear Friends, If your ancestors were Irish Catholics, you can be sure there are some farmers in your line. This is a PBS link to show you online about cooperative farming in today's Catkskill Mountains> http://www.thirteen.org/programs/new-york-now/#farmers-helping-farmers Barb
Thanks Judy and Pat. We all need encouragement. Thanks to my Daniel, who was 12 yo landing in NYC one fine day in Sept 1849, and wise enough to register his Irish townland with Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank, in 1866. Danny boy steered me home to a town that even folks at the local, Irish 7-11 told me did not exist. Located the town on a map I purchased there. Then, someone directed me to turn left after "the derelict pub." I returned from Balyna RC parish in May 2009 with three generations of Baptismals. They stripped us of visible dignities, but no one can silence the still, small voice within. @ 8.22.2014 Barb -----Original Message----- From: Judy Christopher via [email protected] After searching for 16yrs. for My Mitchells from Galway I found them in the 1826 census or evaluation. Maybe "Who Do You Think You Are?" fever is contagious. I just found my Catholic ggg grandfather in Tithe Applotment Books 1823- 1837!!! http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp This is the father who launched his famine era children to NYC. This is the only time my Catholics appear in any Irish searches. This is the first data I found since returning from Ireland with his son's Baptismal, five years ago! Pat Connors posted the free site months ago. Instead of cutting and pasting the link for future use, I casually entered his name and county...expecting nothing, and PING, up he popped> County Kildare---1834 The Estate of Lord Viscount Harberten Parish of Carrick Townland: Rabbitfield Barb
Good for you, Barb. It is always exciting to find a bit more info on your family. Now that you know exactly where he is in the tithes, go to the FamilySearch.org site and find the whole tithes. I think they have crispier copies plus you can get copies of the book and other data, like year. You might find more family members by going through the whole civil parish. Now, if you could find my McEntees ... Maybe "Who Do You Think You Are?" fever is contagious. > I just found my Catholic ggg grandfather in > Tithe Applotment Books 1823- 1837!!! > http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp > This is the father who launched his famine era children to NYC. > This is the only time my Catholics appear in any Irish searches. > This is the first data I found since returning from Ireland with his son's > Baptismal, > five years ago! > > > The Estate of Lord Viscount Harberten > Parish of Carrick > Townland: Rabbitfield > > -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com [email protected]
"Who Do You Think You Are?" TONIGHT Channel: TLC or 28 in Metro NYC 9pm Eastern Starring: Kelsey Grammer BTW I'm helping our nonagenarian* list member, Norm Valentine to post some messages as he recovers from an extended hospitalization. Norm lives in PA at zip code 18960, map says it's near Allentown PA. He's like to catch tonight episode of WDYTUA. Can anyone figure out what channel number that is? * a decade above octogenarian Many thanks, Barb
It has been brought to my attention that maybe I should remind the list members of some mailing list etiquette. 1. If replying to a message, and you get your list mail via digest format, remember to change the subject to be the same as the message you are replying to. 2. If, again, if you get your list mail via digest format and reply to a message, remember to delete all of the repeated digest except the part that your message is replying to. 3. Remember in mailing lists, ALL CAPS, are considered being screamed at. So, only cap words that you want to call to the attention of the reader. 4. As a courtesy, it would be nice if when posting a message that you put your name at the bottom. Doesn't need to be your full name, first name would do. Check your email program and see how to format a signature file. Once you do that, you don't have to put your name at the end, the mailing program will do so automatically for you. Note at the end of this message, you will see -- and then my name and my website url. All of that is in my signature file and has been automatically appended to this message. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento, CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
So, you think you've heard a brogue before and you think you can understand it? Try this video of Cork farmers. > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Omtfe7lb-gE It's a wonder any of our surnames were spelled correctly in American records. And, another thing...Remember those Certificates of Irish Heritage? These meaningless pieces of parchment didn't appease those of us wanting Irish citizenship, but for our immigrant ancestors arriving before the grandparents level. The hoopla was a royal flop. Of course they were! I mean who needs some "officially" deployed piece gar-bage to tell me I'm Irish, for $60.? Only about 2500 have been sold to date. Finis! https://www.heritagecertificate.com/product/certificate/ And the beat goes on... Barb
