    3. Tony, I use a few different software programs. I use RootsMagic, the paid version. There is a free version also. I like the reports it produces. The pay version is not expensive. I have also used MyHeritage. It is a good program but I don't like the report output, specifically the descendant list. I also have the trial version of The Master Genealogist. I find this program to be more detailed and not as easy to use as the others. The easiest would be RootsMagic.   Ally ________________________________ From: tonymccarthy via <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2014 11:04 AM Subject: Re: [NY-IRISH] NY-IRISH Digest, Vol 9, Issue 185                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Would any contributor recommend a good quality software programme for recording detailed family trees. 1. [NY-IRISH] NEW NYC Records Coming Up!!!
    2. mizscarlettny via
    3. Dear Friends, There are some new NYC transcription projects in the works, and they need you! The not-for-profit metro NYC area German Genealogy Group http://www.germangenealogygroup.com/ and Italian Genealogical Group http://www.italiangen.org/ are working together once again to transcribe* more recent NYC records, that will be searchable online, just as they did with Brides & Grooms, and mid century births earlier. You all know these search engines, you use them every day and they're free! But free to use doesn't mean they're free to produce. I welcome the Births from 1910 forward, but know they are working on Marriages too. Also, there's a Cemetery Project and another for something like Federal Crimes. Right now they are desperate for folks to transcribe...that means to read handwritten records then keyboard the data into forms, print, then return by mail. *If you've got the skills, please contact John Martino> [email protected], Since tran$cribing record$ means ton$ of copying cost$, paper, mailing, etc They sure would appreciate donations to meet their goals. 3. Dear Friends, Since receiving an inordinate number of private emails from mainly list member-voyeurs and list hit 'n runners questioning *why* I am sending "SPAM" to the list, and if I ever sent SPAM before, I' clarify. I don't email spam...ever. Mail that arrives in your SPAM folder is not always bad, it can be from someone not listed in your address book. Also, I don't know David A.H.Stroebel, we've not exchanged emails, nor have I read any of his questions or contributions to our lists. If you decided to research your ancestors in these Civil War rosters, you might be overwhelmed by 195 choices. http://dmna.ny.gov/historic/reghist/civil/rosters/rostersinfantry.htm And, as one email asked, there are no direct links to individual rosters. I chose the 69th New York regiment since it was Irish American and could be useful to members on both NY-Irish and NY-NY lists. I searched for surnames from your posts. This was a seven hour act of love. My intention was to inspire both lists to untangle some of these rosters. It was great to hear of the success stories. FYI Pat Connors was kind enough to post this link to members of the Irish Brigade who are buried at Calvary Cemetery in Queens NY> http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyqueen2/cemeteries/IrishBrigade2.htm When you read something that helps or inspires you, please speak out. I do not find anything wrong with the postings of 69th Regiment rosters - it is interesting historical information (to me, anyway). Since it is not against Rootsweb rules to make these posts, I see nothing wrong with them, and MY opinion counts here. Our list has been very quiet lately, and it is good to see some activity here again, ASIDE from any arguing, complaining, and making rude posts. The person who made the original complaint has removed himself from this group voluntarily, so this subject should now be closed. Play nice with each other, folks! Or else... 3. You guys are very welcome. I aimed to include as many surnames of our list members as came to mind. Yes, Judi, I was remembering your GILLESPIEs, too! [There are tons of them in Orange County NY.] There were pages of Murphys, Kennedys and of course, Smiths, that missed my boat. A WORD TO THE WISE: If you want to cut and paste names from CW regimental rosters, you must proofread what you paste. The OCR lens changed Va. for Virginia into Ya, and also changed some numbers. I proofed every line...time for some other proof! CIVIL WAR ROSTERS of ALL REGIMENTS http://dmna.ny.gov/historic/reghist/civil/rosters/rostersinfantry.htm BTW at the tail end of doing this, I think I found the brother of my Dan from Kildare [arrived NYC age 12], dying at Andersonville. Some of our poor Irish were tormented in their own country, they came here to engage in battle and die, just 15 yrs later. They had guts!
