Barb, thanks for reminding us all when this show airs. I have mine set to tape. The week before the new season started the station replayed a number of past shows that I also taped. I had seen some but not all. Now every night I play one and almost caught up. I really enjoy the shows, not so much to see the star finding their genealogy but the process. Where the records are found. Question to all: do you think the show reseaches a bunch of celebrities and if they have an interesting tree that can be proved, they are asked to do the show or do they ask the celebrity and then because of their excellent research skills, they just find interesting things? -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com [email protected]
Dear Friends, That's an interesting idea, Pat. I thought that Tony was more interested in a "tree" related software, like "Family Tree Maker." Tony, would you please clarify? I hope the list will chime in here, as my experience with both is limited, although I own both. Maybe you have other suggestions for Tony. I haven't tried Dragon yet, but the directions mention "naturally speaking speech recognition software. ( For info> www.nuance.com) Perhaps I'm dating myself, but the concept reminds me of the old Dictaphones, without a secretary needed to listen and type what they hear. The software enables the user to speak into a microphone and then words print on screen. (Magic?) When I found it intact, unused for $ 1.99, rather than the $ 59.99 price tag, I had to grab it. My plan was to use it to record family stories, not chart out genealogy. Family Tree Maker (FTM), I think was the original program to create a "tree" and family charts. I think that this is what Tony wants as he expressed dissatisfaction with storing on Ancestry. It probably depend upon how much privacy you want, and how much control you have over it. Although new software programs came out after FTM, people seem to like differing features. Anyone with more information? Thank you for the heads up, which the series last longer.
Thank you very much, Michael. Since Hellman's mayo went up to $5. for a shrinking jar less than 32oz, without announcements, you had to know these Interment Lists went up. BTW Whenever you buy one, proofread it and compare it against the death certs you have. The mistakes are usually in the place of birth category and surname spellings. If you find errors, call them and seek an accurate one. Calvary Cemetery 718-786-8000 Thanks again, Barb From: Michael Hamill [email protected] Yes, just received one last week. $90 for first, $5 each for the others. It is a bit pricey and keeps me from doing too many, but on the other hand this latest one gave me a GGGgrandfather I didn't have, so no complaints from me! Dear Friends, Has anyone purchased an interment list from CALVARY CEMETERY Woodside, Queens, NYC lately? The rate used to be $55. for the first name and $5. for each other name in the same grave. I think the base price went up to $80., plus $5. per additional burial. Anyone buy one recently? Thanks, Barb
I don't watch this because I'm not interested or don't even know who these 'celebrities' are. Also they rarely have African Americans featured...that bugs me too. I have used this website before and I got lucky enough to find a group picture of the Regiment BUT that is rare. Often though you get a nice summary of history about the regiment and the Commanders names etc...When doing genealogy research, for me, what is most interesting is to also find out the history of my people and also the times they lived in. Although getting births, deaths etc can be a lot of work, what makes things fun is learning more about these people and the times they lived in.
