Hi: I have been on the familysearch site many times but I did not realize this service existed. Where on their site can it be found. Thank you
Joyce, Try Thunderbird. Free download, Free use. I have used it for years. Originally, I donated to the Ellis Island site, but never found anyone I search for on it. For one thing, you have to keep subtracting ages from years, to determine if one of 50 possible hits is your family. Too much second thinking. Barb -----Original Message----- From: Pat Connors via [email protected] I had the same impression. I tried to search for a passenger and was totally surprised at the new site. It was impossible to use and I feel pretty good at searching. Horrible site. I actually found the record on Ancestry which is usually harder for me to search for passenger records. Thanks for taking the time to call them. I didn't even try to sign in because I was so disgusted with the site, I just got off. Hi Meghan, There is always the *possibility* of transcription errors when volunteers view handwritten records decades old then keyboard them into print, no matter how careful the reader is. When I go to the Municipal Archives with friends, and we view BMDs on microfilm, we consistently ask each other to view each other's microfilm images, to confirm what the handwritten c copy says. For example, there are times you want a child's BC but only if the parents are X and Y. That's one way to determine the right from wrong family certificate. Other than historical newspaper sites, or visuals of original documents online, most of what you read online are transcriptions. Thanks for the info all - I submitted a different request this morning and already received an image back which is unbelievably fast. I have only used it once, but that was last month. I did not get an email confirm (and did not get one for the ones I ordered 2 days ago) but I did get the records I asked for. Maybe they just eliminated the email confirm since you get a message on the site that it went through OK On Fri, Sep 5, 2014 at 6:03 AM, Meghan McLoone via <[email protected]> wrote: > I recently started researching again after a little hiatus and requested 3 > records from the FamilySearch photoduplication website. Please EVERYONE go to the site, and then let them know how you feel about these new changes. BTW links to these documents from familysearch.org no longer work either. I let them know that and also tried to get a message through to familysearch.org as well. Hi Meghan, I've had great success with the photoduplication service, but they don't always send a confirmation email. Lately they've been pretty quick and I've been very grateful for the service, it's a great help! I don't think you need to resend. I recently started researching again after a little hiatus and requested 3 records from the FamilySearch photoduplication website. It changed since the last time I used it and I am wondering if 2 of my requests actually went through. I received an email confirmation for one of my requests but not the other 2. The requests were submitted within minutes of each other so I figured I would have received confirmations by now. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think I should submit again? Thanks for the advice, Meghan
Meghan, I had a similar experience to Michael's - excellent, very fast results, but not always a confirmation. In fact, I wrote a note once in the comments section of one request about a confusing and conflicting issue, and they sent me a document. I forgot about it, frankly, because the doc they sent was relevant. Several *weeks* later, I received an email responding to the comment. They had continued looking into it, and someone came up with the answer, and another document, and a link explaining it! Amazed!!!
