I hate to say this folks but I think that Ancestry sucks and they are draining the life blood out of long time subscribers. I am wondering if it might be benifical to have just one person on the list that we can do a go to as the fees for accessing Ancestry climb the bean stalk into well you can guess where. I cannot thank all who have tried to help me enough. I use the Library Edition at my local Family History Center and it might just be that with the library edition you cannot contact the owners of the trees. I am at the point of not caring is this person is walking around thinking he/she knows all about their McEntees. They were ignorant to think there was a connection between their McEntee and my McEntee to begin with, so I am letting it go. As I have heard, 'ignorance is bliss'. I was just hoping against hope, there was some connection but checking out their Wyoming McEntees, I know they are not connected to my NY McEntees. Again, thanks to all for your help. I believe the replies have also helped others. This list is my favorite list, so many nice people and all so helpful. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com [email protected]

Pat I have never clicked on a tree name, I click on the persons ancestry ID, that takes me to their profile page where you can email them, It also tells you when was the last time they logged on, so you can tell if that person is a "fly by nighter" or still in research mode. I have 2 people who have all kinds of crazy stuff on their tree that they copied form mine that are NOT the right people/family. Repeated attempts to contact them did no good so I left comments on their tree pages to at least show other folks things are not correct. Many people are no longer getting notifications form ancestry when they get a message or a comment is left (long story, contact me off list if you want the details about why) ... IN MY case, I could find NO way to resolve it, even contacting ancestry did not help as they would not do anything about the one fellow who is going around adding names of all kinds of people to the info from my tree (on his tree) even though those people are not remotely related...he is a "name collector" who is just adding names will nilly, and he is doing it to a LOT of people's tree info... I checked on him via his profile and he is adding names to his trees and documents from other trees, and then he adds anything and anybody he finds with the same last name in the same time period...he adds about 1000 people a week to his tree this way...even though I explained to ancestry he is messing up the database they would do nothing about it except they sent him an email asking him to take my people off his tree which he ignored. Some of these folks just don't give a hoot whether their info is correct or are what I call "2 week wonders" who take the 2 week free offer, slap some names up there and call it done. If you can email me at my other email address ([email protected]) I can send you a snip of the contact place you should be looking for on their page. I cannot do a snip picture through gmail. For customer service for ancestry the # is 1-800-262-3787 . Numbers provided by Barb would be useful for overall complaints I suppose but I don't think that is going to get you resolution on specific problems you are having with ancestry site or products. I have found calling ancestry rather than using their online method [email protected] to be more helpful. When you email them you don't get the answers you need and wind up in back and forth emails that never do resolve the issue(s). Maybe it was a one-time glitch? I don't know what is higher than a world membership unless there is a new all-cosmos level for more money.... Thank you Marie, for sharing this information. When I composed my post, I drew upon my journalism background and intentionally documented specifics and locations...in case, someone in the future, were to deny that the terrorist attack of the Unites States of America occurred on 11 September 2001. With the death of newspapers, and the expansion of news communications to hyper-text format, when we who lived it are gone, perhaps someone will read what we've posted and interpret them as eye witness accounts. Who ever expected that someday to be 13 years after the event? Back in January, I ordered my father's and grandfather's military records. I got my dad's with maybe 10 days, followed by a packet full of copies of all his medals and awards in June. I figured I wouldn't hear about my grandfather's, if I hadn't by now, but today I got an envelope with a letter and 2 copies each of documents with official raised seals, showing his service as a 17 year old in 1920, and as a 40 year old in 1943. The letter said his records had been lost in the 1973 fire, but they obtained these documents from an alternate source, and the seal declares them official for any reason I might need to do so. I would now like to get the records of his father, who was drafted near the end of WW1, and a different ggf who served in the civil war. I understand this is expensive, this far back! I'd still appreciate hearing from anyone who has done it. What forms did you use, etc? Thanks, Judi

and this page has some other options as well. There are tons of things to choose from regarding what category your suggestion falls under. I must say this is nicer than the other ways I have been told of in the past to make suggestions. This one actually worked for me LOL BUT there is no way to submit unless you take a one question survey rating how much you like the website. It is a simple "rate ancestry" on a scale of 1-10 so don't let the survey part throw you off. Here is the link for suggestions: http://www.ancestry.com/cs/suggestions So, if you have things you want to see changed, this seems to be a good way to ask for it. Thank you for doing all that work.
Pat, When you are on the page that shows their tree, look to the right of the tree title. There should be a gray box that says owner. Click on that and a box will pop up with their profile and contact info. I usually send a message through Ancestry and ask if the person is willing to share their email address so that we can converse privately. Good luck! Lynn >I am writing this for help from those that have Ancestry or are experience > with it. . I would like to > contact the person who put the tree on Ancestry to compare notes. Does > anyone know how?
I have a world Ancestry membership and have contacted, or been contacted by, others with occasional home-run results. It is easy. Click on the tree owner's name. See "Contact" and click on it An email box will pop up. Write your message. This is a private message. You will see only their Ancestry user name and they will see only yours. If you choose, you can exchange personal email addresses, phone numbers etc and take it from there. That assumes they answer you in the first place. The tree owner may not answer and I always try just once more after a month or so. This summer, I got an answer from a message I sent two years ago. Good luck.
