    3. Hi Folks, Although many of us are going to continue with new mailing lists, perhaps there are those of us who aren't and so before the end of these rootsweb mailing lists I want to thank you all. I have received so much help and support over the years from so many of you and with your help have found out much about my Irish families who went first to New York City then outwards from there. The brother and sister of these folk (my Greatgrandparents William Nolan and Bridget Kelly ) chose Australia in the 1880's and met and married there before coming to NZ. My time has become limited for family research so I haven't participated for a while, but I continue to enjoy following everyone's searches and successes. Best Wishes and Happy Hunting :) Chris in NZ

    3. You are very welcome, Terry!  We are all here to help each other.  All of these lists and boards are useful. On an Ancestry board, I was contacted by an unknown 4th cousin--our great-great grandmothers were sisters.  She shared a document in which her ancestor told the story of how the two of them left Ireland for Brooklyn in the 1850s, full of amazing detail. I've never seen anything like it.  Best, VirginiaB On Friday, January 10, 2020, 03:27:22 PM EST, Theresa Bora <terrybora@wowway.com> wrote: Virginia, thanks so much for this information.  I never realized Ancestry had that function. I have used them for years and they have been very helpful. There are some kind experts there, as on rootsweb.  Once you follow the directions a couple of times, it will be easy. 1--Go to Ancestry's home page and register if you're not already. I'm told it's free.  2--On the black line at the top of the page, look for 'Help' and click on it.  3--See 'Message Boards' and click on it.  4--You will have choices to click on, eg, surnames, content, categories.  For Brooklyn, New York, Queens etc, go to 'Categories' and click on "United States'.  5--The 'United States' page will open.  Click on 'States'.  6--On the 'States' page, click on 'New York'  7--On the 'New York' page, click on 'Counties'  8--On the 'Counties' page, click on your desired county. Remember Manhattan is New York County and Brooklyn is Kings County. Queens is Queens. All the rest are there too of course.  9--A bit down on the right is 'Begin New Thread'.  Ask your question, or whatever you're interested in.  10--Last but not least, SAVE THE BOARD OR THREAD by clicking on the star on the upper right. Then you won't have to go thru all these steps again. Ancestry will create a 'My Favorites' list for you.  There is a lot more on these boards--surname boards have been helpful for me, for example.  They also have many countries and counties or provinces within those countries--all the counties of Ireland, for example. This is all much simpler than it sounds so give it a try and see if you find it a help.  Best to all, VirginiaB _______________________________________________
