I am trying to find the parents and birthplace of Abel Smith. He is my paternal grandmother's grandfather. He was born June 9, 1769 in, it appears, either Norwalk or Norwich, Connecticut. He married Abigail Hazen, the daughter of Caleb Hazen and Sarah Hamblin in Carmel NY on January 3, 1790. He was a farmer in Carmel and Philipstown, what in is now Putnam County, NY. He died in New York City Sept. 1, 1821. The mysteries of the names of his parents and the place in which he was born. Any help much appreciated. Craig Baxter cbaxter@pennswoods.net
