A Talk by Henry Bedingfeld, York Herald of the College of Arms Thursday, 24 April 2003 at 6 PM The Portrait Gallery at the NYG&B Society The Committee of Heraldry is pleased to announce that it will host a talk by Henry Bedingfeld, York Herald of the College of Arms, on Thursday, 24 April 2003 at 6 PM in the Portrait Gallery at 124 East 58th Street. Mr. Bedingfeld will give an illustrated presentation on recent grants of arms by the College. Mr. Bedingfeld will give an illustrated presentation on recent grants of arms by the College. The event is co-sponsored by the College of Arms Foundation. The College of Arms, founded 1483, is the body to which the British Crown delegated its authority to grant armorial bearings to English subjects and their descendants as well as corporate entities, including municipalities, corporations, schools, and churches. In addition, it organizes state ceremonies, such as the State Opening of Parliament. The College is composed of thirteen Officers of Arms: the three Kings of Arms, six Heralds, and four Pursuivants. Mr. Bedingfeld was appointed York Herald in 1993 prior to which he was Rouge Croix Pursuivant from 1982. Educated at Ampleforth College in Yorkshire, he was qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1968. He is a founder of the Norfolk Heraldry Society and a past member of the Council of the Heraldry Society. He is also a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Scriveners and Bowyers Companies; past Secretary of the Standing Council of the Baronetage; and Vice President of the Cambridge University Heraldic and Genealogical Society and the Suffolk Family History Society.
