I have a Revolutionary War pensioner who died in New City June 2, 1835. The family lived on West St. NYC was young, small and down on the lover end of Manhattan. Cemeteries were probably north and moved as growth pushed north. What happened to these cemeteries? Where are the records about this information? Widow was still alive at this time, filed widow's pension in Marine Court NYC. She may be affected by this as well. One ancestor died 1839 we know about because he was reinterred (from somewhere) to Cypress Hills Brooklyn in 1853. There must have been removals, and opportunities for families to intercede and claim loved ones. Where can I find information and details in this regard? Jan in California.
Here's a still active cemetery in lower Manhattan: NEW YORK MARBLE CEMETERY, a/k/a Second Avenue Cemetery. Most interments were between 1830 and 1870, but descendants of the original owners can still be buried there. Quite a remarkable place! http://www.nycmc.org/ -- Regards, Rod Dav4is / P.O.
