Today I started transcribing LDS film#1304660, Naturalization Declarations 1853-59, Rensselaer Co NY Justice Court for all those born in Ireland. A typical record has the following information: name, age, county in Ireland of birth, city where person left from, date of arrival in USA, place of residence, date of declaration. Eventually, I will get them on line at the Rensselaer County website but for the present, I am going to begin to post just the name, age and county of birth. I will post them whenever I get time. It should be noted that their residences includes Rensselaer, Albany, Washington and Saratoga Counties, plus I have found some from VT and MA. surname, first name, age, county of birth: Cummings, James, 22, Waterford O'Rourke, Thomas, 22, Offaly Dailey, Carroll, 39, Limerick O'Donnell, Bryan, 27, Limerick Dooley, James, 36, Tipperary Doyle, John, 25, Wicklow Sheety(?), Daniel, 28, Offaly Mahar, Patrick, 26, Tipperary Cleary, Thomas, 36, Tipperary Shelly, John, 20, Tipperary Delaney, Patrick, 21, Tipperary Kennedy, John, 29, Tipperary Farrell, Andrew, 34, Dublin Ryan, Martin, 36, Tipperary Corboy(?), Daniel, 19, Offaly Delahanty, Patrick, 23, Tipperary Graham, Michael, 25, Tipperary Cummings, Thomas, 24, Tipperary Grimes, Joseph, 40, Tipperary Hogan, John, 19, Tipperary Lawler, Thomas, 27, Tipperary Markham, William, 39, Clare Dorsey, Patrick, 24, Tipperary Callahan,, James, 45, Meath Dermady, Phillip, 19, Tipperary It should be noted that all the records are 150 years old and hand written and at time very difficult to read. Those names with (?) means I am guessing. While fairly familiar with Troy Irish names, due to the census work, I still had to guess on a few. Also, there is a form where the clerk fills in the person's name and many times misspelled the surname. If the person signed their own name, I took their spelling and not the clerk's. But is there was an X, then I took the name the clerk wrote even though it didn't look correct to me. If you think one of these are yours, you should check the film for accuracy. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002

Case studies are featured. Break Second Session: 11:00 am "BITING THE BIG APPLE: A TASTE OF NEW YORK CITY RESEARCH" by Roger D. Joslyn. This presentation is intended as a "meat and potatoes" discussion of what New York City-area records there are, where they are, what is indexed, and what is published. The "gravy" includes little-known sources, indexes, and finding aids, how to use the records, and some case history examples. Emphasis is mostly on 19th_century records of the five New York City boroughs. Lunch Break: Noon to 1:00 pm. Sandwiches with salad, beverage, and dessert $5.00. Use advanced reservation form attached. Third Session: 1:00 pm "FINDING YOUR ANCESTORS IN UPSTATE NEW YORK" by Roger D. Joslyn. This presentation will focus on New York State genealogical source records, their location, content, and use, with particular emphasis on the nineteenth century. Research examples will be discussed and special attention given to the uniqueness of certain records, such as probate petitions, state censuses, and Civil War lists, all with the intention of quieting the myth that New York is a genealogical graveyard. Break Fourth Session: 2:30 pm "A 19TH_CENTURY CASE STUDY FROM CYBERSPACE: STATEGIES FOR FINDING AND USING RELIABLE HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL DATA ON THE INTERNET" by Leslie Corn. This presentation, using only Internet resources, demonstrates in-depth research done online for one intriguing 19th-century man whose life wasn't revealed in the expected places, such as in an obituary, probate, or biographical sources. Instead, his life unfolded online in full-text and other sources. Having disappeared into the mists of history, he was discovered quite unexpectedly to have played a prominent part in mid-19th-century history. This presentation is driven by visuals that demonstrate research techniques and off-the-beaten-path URLs for doing historical and genealogical research on the Internet. Our Seminar Speakers Roger D. Yes, check out the mailing list and web pages for Westchester at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywestch/ At 07:25 PM 3/17/2003 -0500, you wrote: >03-17-03 @ 1925 EST > >As a new subscriber, I am interested in knowing if there are specific >mail lists or web sites for Chappaqua and/or Westchester County, which >are the areas of my immediate interest? > >Thank you for the response(s)! > >Carl C.
I'm fairly new to this list. It seems to indicate this is a continuance of prior submissions? If so, what/where are the prior counties to be found? Jan
same site, there are many counties. It is time consuming checking each volume to get details. It has been going on since 1995. http://www.sampubco.com/wills/ny/newyork.htm and there are links to other states. Not all counties are online, like I said - time consuming. Between Years: 1824-1850 Wish To Verify Residence/Birth/Marriage of Perkins Family Members Do you have any way to confirm this information? === This is some of the information I have on Wesley Perkins (born 1796) and Ruth McHuron (born 1800) whom he married and their children. I believe that the following children were born in the Lysander area of Onondaga County, New York; however, I don't know how to prove that either: Sylvina/Sylvia (born 03/27/1827) Sylvina married George Barnard and had Nellie (did not find in census). I found in the 1860 census Fletcher, Tammy, Jasper, Renee, and Ruth. Elvira (born 11/24/1829) married Charles A (other data says George) Sikes and had Charles. Lora/Laura (born 11/02/1831) married Edson Wolcott and had Fred & Frank. I found them in the census as follows: Fred in 1860&1870 census found Frank in 1870 census. Ruth (born 01/29/1834) married ?? Carter. Alanson (born 1835) Calista (born 04/03/1836) married Columbus Storey. === I believe that these two children perhaps married the people listed in Lysander area of Onondaga County, New York: Charlotte Perkins (born 08/24/1818) married ?? Hickock and had Wesley, Louis, Orley, Ruby, William, Elma. Esther/Hester Perkins (born 03/07/1821) married Lewis Barnhardt. === It seems that by 1850 most of the above people had moved to Le Roy Township, Boone County, IL. I believe that I have mentioned this before but it was a long time ago so I'll repeat it. (Actually maybe it was the Hudson Valley list, so I'll' send this to both.) I am located in Orange County, NY. I have Names index to the R & C 1881 History of Orange County Table of contents for the same A Guide to the Manuscript Collection of the Goshen Historical Society Bethlehem and New Windsor Presbyterian Church Records (not alphabetical so I need dates) The Contents pages of The History of Ulster County A few pages from an 1868-9 gazetteer of Elmira, (city & town) BALDWIN & RYAN were the names I was looking for so the pages I have concentrate on those parts of the listings. Although this area was never a hot bed of Irish immigration, we have had our share over the years. For what it's worth, I am always happy to do look-ups in any of the above. On rare occasions I get up to the Newburgh Library where they have a very good collection. I know that they have a number of books of CHURCH RECORDS from Orange and Ulster counties. If anyone has very specific requests for look-ups in the church records, I will start compiling a "wish list" and I will try to do some items from the list each time I do get there. (It has been over a year since I have gotten up there to do any research so I am due for a visit) Here is what you need to give me to get on the list: NAME DATES CHURCH DOCUMENT TO BE SEARCHED (if possible) Margaret

Questions pertain to Rev. War pensioner, NY Line 1777. I hope someone knows the answer to these questions. 1. Did this Act require a petitioner for a Revolutionary War pension to return to the state/county in which he served in order to file the petition? 2. A 1937 letter written to an inquirier about a petition, told her," in order to obtain the date of last payment of pension, the name and address of person paid...you should address The Comptroller General, General Accounting Office, Records Division, this city, and cite the following data: Name, Certificate No 463 Issue date, June 20, 1843 Rate, 37.77 per annum Commence date, March 4, 1843 Act of March 3, 1843, New York Agency." This letter is signed by A. D. Miller, Executive Assistant to the Administrator. The problem is, there is no letterhead address, no referral address and unfortunately no envelope. This letter was included with the copy of a Rev. War pension that was granted and copied for me at the NARA, Washington. The other problem is, the applicant became a widow of the pensioner in 1835. She gives that date in her petition. By "commence date, 1843" she would have been 82 and that is a long interval to take to file for continuance of a pension following decease of the pensioner in June 1835. My questions: Who would Comptroller General, General Accounting Office, Records Division be today? What city? New York, where they lived? Albany, the capitol of the State where they lived? or Washington, DC? Any known reasons for the interval? (My records tentatively note she died 1843.) I would appreciate help from someone better versed in the military legalities of pension procedures. thank you Jan
Today I put the 6th ward on line on the Troy page of the Rensselaer County Website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyrenss2/ This ward includes 3,665 individuals, living in 455 dwellings in 822 families. The people who did all the work and deserve thanks are: Jerry Hurbert, Herbert Phelps, Pam Warren, Walter Warren, Jay Stevens, Bob McConihe, Denise Jones, Eileen Guinee, Kathy Janus, Art Boyne, Gary Craver, Pam Ward, Gwen Beiermeister, Colleen Wheeler, Christine Dunham, Ron Mauer, Lynn Grice, Beth Callanan, Robert Yoder. Again, this ward was not in the best of shape and some names were very legible and at times impossible to read, so there are mistakes. Always go to the source document (film) for accuracy before using the census as a source document. You can also access the ward from the url under my name. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002
