    3. Here's a site you should bookmark: http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/shame/ The Genealogy Hall of Shame The Genealogy Hall Of Shame is designed to be a place where items of warning are posted, in an effort to educate the Genealogical researchers on those items of scandalous history they should be aware of. Knowledge of what was, and what should be avoided is essential in the pursuit of accurate facts and well reported credible works. The covers internet/genealogical scams, hoaxes, security and site "Inductees". 1. [HudsonRV] 1900 Fed Census, Troy NY update
    2. Pat Connors
    3. Today, I am starting to post the 12th ward on line. This is a huge ward with 4,829 individuals, 531 dwellings and 920 families. However, it was a mess to transcribe because when they recounted the census, they scribbled all over many on the entries, especially over the surnames! Therefore, you will find a number of ?? when you do your lookups. And, as usual, I remind you this is a resource, not a source document. You should always refer to the census itself, for the source. Here are the people to thank. They devoted much of their busy life to get this transcribed so others could benefit: Gary Craver, Pam Warren, Eileen Guinee, Janet Gill, Art Boyne, Herb Phelps, Mary Nigro, Kathy Janus, Bev DeFilipps, Jaime Kerr, Jerry Hubert, Gwen Beiermeister, Sandra Johnson, Beth Callanan, Kay Brearton, Collenn Wheeler, Jay Stevens, Walt Warren, Pam Ward, Marilyn Trujillo, Bob McConihe, and Georgiana. It took 22 transcribers on this ward. Currently there are 35 volunteers working on other wards. While a few live in the Troy area, the rest are from all over the USA and there is also a volunteer from England. To date, four more wards have all their pages assigned and most are completed and back to me. I will be proofreading and putting together the 9th ward next and hope to get a ward on line per month. Here are the two sites where you can find the 12th ward. Currently only the names and the ward map are formatted and today I will start getting the pages on line, adding a number a day till all 18 are on line. 3. Ev, The only people to appear in the Kingston city directories would have been heads of households living at Kingston at that time unless they merited mention for another reason. An adult child boarding at home might be such a case. In that case you would see a lower case "b." before their address in the directory. It's likely that some family member owned, or inherited ownership in, a plot at the cemetery in Kingston that you mentioned. If so, it might have been less expensive to ship the body/bodies there from NYC for interment as Manhattan cemeteries were no longer readily available at that time. NYC interments were done in Queens and Brooklyn at that point in time. Alternatively it could have been done for reasons of sentiment, burying a son with parents or the like. If, as you seem to suggest, that NYC residents were buried in Kingston, then there should be NYC death certificates or records for them. Also, a permit or certificate would also have been required to allow transport of the body, presumably by rail, from NYC to Kingston. You might want to look at the NYC Municipal Archives website at: http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/doris/home.html I hope this is of some small help, Jim -----Original Message----- From: EvNaranjo@aol.com [mailto:EvNaranjo@aol.com] Sent: Monday, January 06, 2003 9:42 PM To: NY-HUDSONRV-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [HudsonRV] Kingston Burials at St. Mary's I have several relatives buried in the same grave at St. Mary's Kingston. The time period is from about 1855-1910. One is my great grandfather. I was always told he had family in Kingston. He worked and lived in NYC where he raised 12 children. Today I spent at the Library of Congress reading Kingston Directories from 1864. I can't find any of the grave occupants living in Kingston and surrounding areas.
