Good morning, I am with another researching lives of Americans and Canadians who took a big leap and came to Australia during our gold rush days - 1850s+. These brave souls contributed to the development of the area of Victoria Aust. in which we are researching and as such they deserve to be recorded in its history. One of these people was Mary Louisa Devoe born New York. We know nothing about Mary except she was born in New York around 1826 (working back from age given on her death in 1870) and that she married George SCOTT born ??. In circa 1881/52 the couple were running a gambling saloon in Nevada City Cal. and in 1852 they came to Australia and had children, most died young. However in 1858, once son George Winfield SCOTT died and his birth place given was PITT. Now Pitt could mean a place in Victoria and it could mean perhaps Pittsburgh USA. He was aged 11. If 11 years he was born in the USA. If 11 days or months obviously born in Victoria. Perhaps more children were born in USA - I have the ship they travelled here on, but have not been able to access the shipping list itself to ascertain the number in the family who came here. We would dearly love to find something on Mary, to confirm where she was born and to whom. The ultimate would be to find a connection to the family. We are very happy to share the data we have found on the family with anyone who connects. Mary's name was once shown as DEVEAUX on official records but most times DEVOE. Finger's x'd. regards Denise
