    2. Phil & Sandy Carneiro
    3. Is anyone researching Platt WAKELEE's line? I need information on his children, especially Elisha Wakelee who married Esther Abbott. Especially Elisha (sometimes found Elihu) but need information on all. Platt died between 1850 and 1860 in Erie County, NY but was living in Oneida County before Erie. Thank you, Sandy ----- Original Message ----- From: PetieL8613@aol.com<mailto:PetieL8613@aol.com> To: NY-CENTRA-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:NY-CENTRA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 25, 2005 10:33 PM Subject: [NYCENTRAL] John and Julia Sorohan Family On the 1870 Yates County Federal Census for Milo are listed: 246-300 Thomas Sorohan 46, male, white, farm labor born Ireland; Julia Sorohan34,female white, keeps house born Ireland: Catherine 15 female white, born New York;John 13, male white born New York;Mary 11 female white, born New York;Julia 9 female white born New York;and Sarah 9 white female born New York. This family is listed in Lodi, Seneca County, New York in 1880. I have found this name spelled Sarahan, and Sorahan, also. Sometime between 1880 and 1887 Julia Sorahan, a widow and her daughter, Catherine, emigrated to McLean County, Illinois, where Julia married Thomas Condon. Catherine was apparently the widow of a man named Yells. Julia died on July 5, 1912 in Bloomington, Illinois. Catherine, or Katy, as the family always called her, was her sole survivor, according to both The Pantagraph and The Bulletin then our two local papers, I have always wondered what took the lives of the rest of the family. I've done a lot of research without finding where these people are buried, or anything more about them. Julia was Julia Burns, born either in Meath or Monaghan Counties, Ireland, and a sister of Rosie Burns O'Day,wife of Thomas, and Alice Burns Murray, wife of James. All three sisters are buried in separate plots in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery here in Bloomington with very nice headstones. Julia outlived both her sisters. Alice and James Murray were married in Cayuga County, and their eldest son, Thomas, my great-uncle was born in New York. A genealogist carefully researched Cayuga County for me, but did not turn up anything. Those Irish were very good at avoiding anyone connected with the government. Something they learned in the Old Country. I knew Julia existed, remember Katy (I'm 84), but no one ever mentioned her losing the rest of her family. Those old Irish could really be close mouthed. Perhaps some of the things that happened to them were just to unbearable to mention. Any suggestions appreciated. 3. Jerry Thanks for passing them on. I did get the name of one man and his daughter and sent the pictures to them but others I never asked for and wish I had as some of the pictures came out well I thought. I am always moved by the World War II vets and have learned that the flag holders were from the VFW post on East Hill Auburn. So much history slipping away and such great men. 2. Gary Welch
    3. Thanks for posting the circular. My 3g-grandfather L. [Lemuel] Crosman is listed among the attendees from Elbridge, the largest congregation listed. Resolution 30 on page 6 mentions that Br. J.M. Allen of Philadelphia was going to publish an Annual Register, has anyone ever seen a copy? There are several references to member churches observing the "monthly concert". I hadn't heard that term previously, does anyone know what it was? I wonder what prompted the church at Aurelius & Mentz to state that they "dwell where Satan's seat is". -----Original Message----- From: Bill Hecht [mailto:wsh6@cornell.edu] Sent: Sunday, July 03, 2005 4:54 PM To: NY-CENTRA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: 1832 Cayuga Babtist Association circular Cover http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13430small.j pg Churches, Ministers, and clerks http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13431small.j pg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13432small.j pg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13433small.j pg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13434small.j pg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13435small.j pg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13436small.j pg LARGE versions http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13430.jpg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13431.jpg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13432.jpg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13433.jpg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13434.jpg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13435.jpg http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures134/13436.jpg ______________________________

    3. How exciting to see the responses to this picture. Hopefully there will be continued efforts to get an ID on the other children. So far, Bertha Higgins Gilmore, is a relative and Agnes Reeves was a close friend of my step-mom, I remember her well from boyhood days. If the ID is correct, I believe her son, Donald "Jake" Reeves was living in Port Byron a few years back. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Hecht" <wsh6@cornell.edu> To: <NY-CENTRA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 01, 2005 12:00 PM Subject: [NYCENTRAL] Montezuma School Children > Montezuma School Children > Small > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures133/13319small.jpg > > Large > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures133/13319.jpg > > > ==== NY-CENTRA Mailing List ==== > Please avoid flaming (attacking) any single person or the group. 3. Bill, I also have this original post card and my grandfather, Charles Higgins b. 1900, his brother Harold Higgins b. 1901 and his sister Bertha Higgins Gilmore b. 1898 are all in the photo. One of the small girls may also be their sister Agnes Higgins Reeves who was born in 1904. I would agree that this photo must be from about 1910 based upon how old each of them appears to be in this photo. -----Original Message----- From: Bill Hecht [mailto:wsh6@cornell.edu] Sent: Friday, July 01, 2005 3:00 PM To: NY-CENTRA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYCENTRAL] Montezuma School Children Montezuma School Children Small http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures133/13319small.j pg Large http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures133/13319.jpg ==== NY-CENTRA Mailing List ==== Please avoid flaming (attacking) any single person or the group. 1. Re: [NYBROOME] Rickemer of Broome Co.
    2. Thank you for your help, Edward and Frances were never "married" but she took his last name, probably around 1940-45 when my mother was born. Edward adopted my mother's older sister barbard fairchild- I have the divorce papers when frances divorced fairchild- This marriage was something that was NEVER mentioned. I rember and older cousin, Dede asking her about it about a year before my granddmother passed away and my cousin who was ill and preparing for her own suicide, we now know, my grandmother wouldn't speak to her about it. It upset my grandmother so much that I damn near knocked my cousins' teeth down her throat. I happened upon the divorce decree while looking through a box of old pictures. Thankfully I knew to take the picture out of the frame and the decree fell out- I believe that it was it was dated after my mother was born. I did find the Rickamer family on the 1930 census for broome co. but it was spelled Rickemer and it did list all of the family members- but none of them were listed in the 1920 census, there was a martin M. rickoner who's year of birth was 1 year off from martin rickemer's listed in 1930?
