    1. [NY-CENTRAL] Josiah Hackett & Family
    2. Renee Gibson via
    3. I am looking for more information on my ancestor, Josiah Hackett, who came to Oxford NY from Hillsdale, NY about 1798 with his family as well as his brother Abel’s family and their father Joseph Hackett Sr. I would like to have information that shows a direct family connection between Josiah and Joseph. Joseph’s wife, Rebeckah (Maiden name unknown) must have died before the family moved to Oxford. Any information on Rebeckah would also be valuable. I know that Josiah & wife Mary are buried on the family farm which is now the Wilcox Farm. Josiah’s son Daniel and his wife Abigail are also buried in the same location on a knoll. The only grave marker present is Daniel’s headstone. I believe there could be more family members buried on the property - such as Joseph Sr. as well as Abel & wife. Any information in regard to deaths and burial place of other family members would also be appreciated. Thanks! Renee

    3. Nancy,Scott,Cortland Co.,NYS is alive and well. It is in the Township of Homer,N./Y.— same county. Contacy first the Cortland Co. Historical Soc….25 Homer Ave. Cortland, N.Y.13045. 1-607-756.6071. Find the website address on-line, I expect. I think the village of Locke,NY is close but in the next county west of Cortland Co., if you need that info. Maybe Cayuga Co. with which I am less familiar. Charlotte J. 1. [NY-CENTRAL] Early NY Military Records & Major Calvin Morley
    2. Growing A Tree
    3. Hi there folks! Perhaps you can inspire some new insights......  I have a marriage announcement from Upstate NY (Chenango county) that reads 7 Mar 1824 - Oxford Gazette "Maj. Calvin Morley m 3/7/24 Sibley Evans in Bainbridge by Elder Chapin." Another source (The Bixby Genealogy) names him as "Calvin Morely" and indicates that they had no children. I cannot find ANYTHING on this guy!  I find plenty of documents relating to his nephew Calvin E. Morley (b abt 1818) and a grand-nephew Calvin Edson Morley (1843-1916).  His wife's name is Sibyl Evans, daughter of Henry Evans, Jr. and grand-daughter of Major Henry Evans, Sr.   Sibyl was born 21 Oct 1804 and died 30 Jan 1890.  From 1850 on, she is not living with Calvin. In fact, aside from the marriage announcement I have NOTHING else which documents them together. Instead, Sibyl Morley and a Phebe Evans (who appears to be her niece) are always living together, bouncing between the homes of various family members (Sibyl's sisters and nephews).  She's lived everywhere from Bainbridge, Chenango County, NY to Tompkins, Delaware County, New York to Sandford, Broome, New York.  Sibyl is listed as a tailor and the 1880 Census indicates that she's a widow.  She's buried at St Peter's Episcopal Cemetery (Evans family Lot): Inscription reads "Wife of Calvin Morley." Sibyl's sister Maria (Evans) Jacobs and her husband Orren Jacobs are also buried here, as is Phebe Evans and other members of the Evans family. Calvin is not buried with her. I've looked for military records to no avail.... pension records.... death records....... No luck so far.  I've tried ancestry, FamilySearch and Fold3, along with a variety of books.  I have sent off for any wills or probate records from Chenango County, but I have nothing to really suggest that Calvin would have had a will there.  There are Morley's in Chenango County and other places in Central NY, but I have nothing to tie Calvin to them; and not all of the Morley's are related -- some are distant cousins with a common ancestor many generations removed. I appreciate any suggestions you might have for other sources I might search. Debbie

    1. [NY-CENTRAL] Evans and Bixby in Chenango County, NY
    2. Growing A Tree
    3. Hi All! I am looking for information on Henry EVANS (1770 – 1833) m. Sibyl BIXBY (1766 – 1846) of Chenango County, NY and more specifically their daughter Sibyl EVANS (1805-???).  According to some documents, their daughter Sibyl Evans married Calvin Morley, though I have very little evidence to support this -- or, perhaps it is a different Calvin MORLEY than the one I have been researching. Specifically, one record states that Maj. Calvin MORLEY m 3/7/24 Sibley Evans in Bainbridge by Elder Chapin. One record shows that there were no children. Some records I have found put "a Sibyl MORLEY" with a Phebe EVANS in Bainbridge, Chenango County, NY. I find them in each of the census records starting in 1850.... at times they are living with other families: 1850: Bainbridge, Chenango, New York The household included Sibyl MORLEY (45) and Phebe EVANS (23). They were living next door to Charles B EVANS , his wife Phebe EVANS (22) and their daughter Susan EVANS (7mths). 1860: Sandford, Broome, New York, United States The household included Orin Jacobs (56), his wife Maria Jacobs (57), Phebe EVANS (33) and Maria's sister Sybil Mosley [MORLEY] (56). 1870: Bainbridge, Chenango, New York, United States The household included Sybil MORLEY (65) and Pheobe EVANS (43). Both women were tailors. Next door is Theodore Evans (31), his wife Amanda EVANS (30) and their daughter Parudman [Prudence?] EVANS (2). 1880: Bainbridge, Chenango, New York, United States The household included Orrin Jacobs (76), his wife Mariah [Maria] (EVANS) Jacobs (77), Liby A [Sibyl] MORLEY (75, widowed sister of Maria) and his niece/servant Phebe EVANS (53). The Census indicates that Sibyl MORLEY is a widow. Later records for Calvin MORLEY (at least the one I am researching) have him married to an Elizabeth BLAIN in Pennsylvania. Would love to connect with anyone else who might be researching these families! Debbie
