The pilot was First Lt Ray A. MERCER, 25, a fighter gunnery instructor of the 3598th combat crew training squadron here. HIs parents are Mr. and Mrs. Mack MERCER of Kansas City, KS. Nellis officers said the pilot tried to make a forced landing at Overton when the plane developed engine trouble.
