A native of England, aged about 89 years, Mr. SMITH came to this coountry whenbut a year and a half old, the family locating for five years at Salt Lake City, after making the overland trip. Coming to Nevada, ranching was taken up near Steamboat Springs, and continued there since that time. In the early days Mr. SMITH carried the mail into Virginia City on horseback and at one time conducted a meat market in Carson City. Of recent years he has been retired. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Florence SMITH of Smith Valley, and the following sons and daughters; Roy SMITH of Steamboat Springs, Oliver SMITH of Reno, Chester SMITH of Wellington, Mrs. George PERRY and Mrs. Henry HINES of San Jose, CA, Mrs. Sadie STAMER of Berkeley, CA and Mrs. Flora WISE of Oakland. He was the uncle of Mrs. Frank SAUER of Washoe Valley, Mrs. Joe BERGER of Carson City and Mrs. Mabel RAPSON of Reno. Therre also are several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
