SHAIN VFW in Hawthorne Wednesday (18 Jul 1947). Mr. DONNELLY died early Sunday morning (15 Jun 1947) at the Mineral County Hospital. The services were held at the J.J. Noone mortuary followed by graveside services and burial in the Hawthorne Cemetery. A resident of Hawthorne the last 20 years Mr. DONNELLY suffered a stroke of paralysis Wednesday night and was rushed to the hospital at that time. Until the time he was stricken he had been in aparently good health. Mr. DONNELLY was a native of Wellington, KS, was 70 years old. He served in the Spanish American War after which he moved to Colorado and in 1911 moved to Nevada. For a brief period of time he made his home in Tonopah and then moved to Virginia City. About 20 years ago he came to Mineral County and after a brief residence in Rawhide and Broken Hills he moved in 1928 to Hawthorne and made his home here since that time. Mr. DONNELLY, who devided his time between mining and politics, was a familiar figure in local elections and was a candidate for local offices many times. After several unsuccessful attempts to win the office of county commissioner he switched to the race for assemblyman and was elected in 1940 and again in 1942. In 1944 and 1946 he tried for the same office without success. DONNELLY is survived by his widow, who is in Jefferson, OR, at the present time; one daughter, Mrs. Alta MALTBY of Hollywood, CA; a sister, Mrs. Mary HILL of Los Angeles, CA; two brothers, Ben of Hawthorne and Abbott of Orland, CA.
