On Christmas Day Mrs. HITCHENS, while carrying a neighbors child slipped on the ice while crossing the street in Bodie and fell heavily. She complained of a slight pain in her side but paid little attention to it until three weels later when she could not leave her bed. Physicians were called and they pronounced the case a very serious one. Since then Mrs. HITCHENS struggled between life and death, being kept alive entirely by stimulants. On Thursday last she passed away, surrounded by relatives and friends. The remians were brought to Hawthorne for interment and the funeral took place Sunday (18 Feb 1900). It was the largest funeral seen in Hawthorne for years, every available conveyance being placed at the disposal of those wishing to attend. A large number also walked to the cemetry, including the school children under the direction of Mrs. O'ROURKE. The pall bearers were J.H. MILLER, George S. GREEN, Benjamin ROSENTHAL, Otis INGALLS, S.M. SUMMERFIELD and Charles WAGNER. Mrs. HITCHENS was reared from infancy in Hawthorne, and her untimely death was the occasion of genuine grief to all our people. She leaves a four year old son, a devoted husband, heartbroken parents, two sisters and a brother to mourn her. She was a native of Silver City, NV aged 24 years. May she rest in peace. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NV-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news! TM http://www.NewspaperAbstracts.com

SAPP about two miles Spouth of the point where the boat was launched by the fisherman when they attempted to cross the lake at SAPP'S place. The body of Arthur PARR was found Sunday, May 29th and buried in the Hawthorne Cemetery on Decoration Day (now known as Memorial Day) 31 May 1932. The two men had been on the East shore of the lake to bring back a load of fish, but a severe wind storm arose which delayed their return. SAPP drove to their fish box and advised them to return with him in the car and let the fish go until the next day, but the insisted that they would be alright and wouldn't attempt the trip across the lake until the wind subsided. When they failed to put in an appearance the next day, Mr. SAPP investigated and found the boat overturned. The first body (Arthur PARR) was washed up by the high wind that occurred during the night of May 29th and was found the next day by SAPP, who has kept up a diligent search for the bodies ever sonce the accident. Coroner E.M. FERREL went to the scene where the body was found yesterday, and will remove it to Hawthorne, where burial will take place. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NV-Old-News ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ NewspaperAbstracts.com - Finding our ancestors in the news!
