Mr. MURPHY was born in Troy, NY 6 Jul 1864. He was a machinist by trade and has been a resident of Nevada for thirty years, during which time he has been well known in the activities of many Southern Nevada's mining camps. The deceased was unmarried and little is known in Hawthorne of his family afairs. MUMBY, a former resident of this community, died Sunday, 13 Aug in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he had been making his home withhis daughter, Mrs. Donald MILLER and family. Mr. MUMBY was born 28 Aug 1901. He was a former employe of ther Quality Control and Inspection Department at the local depot and a resident of Babbitt for many years. After leaving Hawthorne he made hs home in Fallon for some time. His wife Jean preceeded him in death several years ago. He is servived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald MILLER, four grandchildren, Donald, David, Jacqueline and Sharon MILLER, all of Rapid City. Also surviving are one brother and two sisters and several cousins, two of whom live in Hawthorne, Mrs. Blanche WHITE and Mrs. Joe TILLER. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning(17 Aug) at 10:00 at the Hawthorne Funeral Home. MILSTED of Carson City was found Sunday (11 Aug) in an advanced state of dcomposition in his locked camping pickup near the old ghost camp of Rawhide in Northern Mineral County. Local authorities said there was evidence to indicate suicide. Joe MATTE of Vallejo, CA, who had gone to the area to work on claims, reported he had passed the parked pickup in a canyon aboout one-quarter mile from the old Rawhide jail Sunday morning. He reported the findings to local sheriff's Sunday night. When he returned that evening and the truck had not moved MATTE investigated closer and found the strong oder of decomposing flesh, which was too strong to get to close. That is when he went to the sheriff's. Officers drove to the scene on Monday (12 Sep) wher they found MILSTED'S body clad in an under shirt on the floor jammed between the end of the bunk and an endgate. Beneath the body was an unloaded rifle and a .22 pistol which had been fired. A bullet hole was detectednear the right temple of Mr. MILSTEAD'S head. Officer's added there appeared to be an attempt to set the truck on fire. The body was brought to Hawthorne for autopsy and was buried in the local cemetery on Tuesday (13 Sep). MILLS died Friday evening (11 Sep) at the county hospital where he had been a patient following an automobile accident 1 Sep. MILLS received a serious head injury and a badly fractured left leg in the accident, regaining consciousness but for a brief period a few days before his death. His advanced age was a contributing factior in him being able to survive his injuried. According to his own statement, obtained through registration figures, he ws 78 years old. Born in Indiana, MILLS came to Nevada in 1910 and followed the mining game in many camps in this state. Eight years ago he came to Mineral County, spending the greater part of his time in the Aurora District where he had been actively engaged in mining prior to his death. MILLS was injured when the automobile in which he was riding overturned on the main highway several miles from town. With MILLS was Bert LeVEE who is now at the county hosppital recovering from injuries sustained. The men had come to Hawthorne from Aurora that day to vote. He was a native of Monroe, LA where he was born 15 MAy 1913. Mr. McNEIL was a production foreman at the NAval Ammunition Depot. Mr. McNEIL cam to Hawthorne in 1946 after serving in the Army from 1943 to 1945 and was employed at the Hawthorne Ammunition Depot for 32 years. At the tim eof his retirement he was an explosives operation leader. As a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Hawthorne Mr. McNEIL served as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his widow Hazel Cox McNEIL and a brother George McNEIL, both residents of Hawthorne; a son Gregory McNEIL of Nevada City, CA; brother Luter J. McNEIL of Philadelphia, PA; sisters, Mary SHEPARD of Seattle, WA, Alma BELL of Sacramento and four grandchildren. Services were conducted Saturday afternoon (6 Jan) at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. D. MEADOWS, burial was in the HAwthorne Cemetery. RYAN, who was ordained as one of the early priests of the Diocese of Reno more than 40 years ago, was found dead on a desolate Las Vegas road Wednesday morning (21 Feb). Monsignor RYAN, 74, had apparently been driving on the road on the outskirts of Las Vegas, when his car got stuck. Suffering from emphysema, he apparently tried to walk to a more populated area and was found about a half mile from his car, police said. A native of Ballymore County, Westmeath, Ireland, Monsignor RYAN was born 23 Apr 1898, the son of John RYAN and Mary ROONEY. He was educated at St. Patrick's College, Carlow, Ireland and Saint Bonaventure Seminary in New York. IN his 35 years of active service in the priesthood, Monsignor RYAN served thorughout Nevada until his retirement in 1968. Ordained 3 Jan 1933 in BUffalo, New York for the Diocese if Reno, he served first as assistant pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Ely, St. Theresa Parish in Carson City and St .Thomas Aquainas Cathedral in Reno. He was named pastor of Our Lady of Snows Parish in Reno in 1939 and under his direction the present church and rectory were built. His other pastorates were in Ely, St. Andrews i Boulder City, St. Gall in Gardnerville and St. Albert's in Reno. In 1952 he was named pastor of St. Anne's parish in Las Vegas ans was responsible for construction of St. Anne school and a convent for the teaching sisters. At that time Mass was celebrated in the structure currently used as the parish hall. After his service at St. Anne he was assigned to St. Brendan in Carlin. From there he went to St. Patrick's in Fallon where he retired in 1968. Monsignor RYAN is survived by two nephews, Matt KEARNEY of Reno and John LEARNEY of Pasadena, CA. The Rosary was recited Thursday (22 Feb) at St. Anne's in Las Vegas. A funeral service was to take place today at St. Anne's. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Snows Church in Reno at 7:30 p.m. on Monday (26 Feb). Olds Article Text: Winnemucca, Edson B. OLDS, 73, died Wednesday (21 Feb) from an apparent heart attack while in route from Winnemucca to Lovelock. He was brn 19 Aor 1899 in Confidence, CA. A veteran of World War II, he had been a local resident for 22 years. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret LUCHARS of New Yor City; sisters, Martha KIMBALL and Jessie HILL, both of Winnemucca and Leslie ZURFLUH of Fernley; brother Albert of Quincy, CA and four grandchildren. A funeral is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday (24 Feb) at Eddy's Funeral Home of Winnemucca. BOrn 16 Nov 1894 in South Dakota, she had been a Nevada resident since 1910 when she moved to Burnhorn in Eureka County. He father, John TYREE was a retired University of Nevada professor and a miner. Mrs. MURPHY was active in Democratic party politics, but didn't seek office until the county Clerk-Treasurer retired in 1950. She was elected 4 times, 3 without opposition. She was a member of the Nevada Fiscal Officers Association and served as president of the organization at one time. Survivors are her granddaughter, Mrs. Pat ALEXANDER and two great grandchildren, all of Las Vegas. Burial will be in the Tonopah Cemetery.
