Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late John and Isabel Allison. John was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas. He was employed with Sydney Steel Plant and later at Devco, until his retirement. John is survived by his grandniece, Sheila,with whom he resided; great-grandnieces, Michelle, Charlene, Jolene and great-grandnephew Shawn. He was the last surviving member of his family. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brother, Philip, sisters, Amy, Elizabeth and Catherine. Cremation has taken place at John's request. Jean Unice Matthews Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: August 25th, 2013 We the family of Jean Unice Matthews regret to announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Ward) Bushell, and a lifelong resident of Tobin Road. Mom was an avid bingo player who enjoyed the company of her many bingo friends. Mom is survived by her seven children, Les (Emma), Pauline (Charlie) Kelland, Barbara, Mary (Gus) Phillips, Debbie (Spencer Young) Oickle, Sandy (Kim), Charlie (Sandra); daughter-in-law, Naomi; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and one brother James (Sandra) Bushell. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Leslie (1958), son, Robert, brothers, Charles, George, Johnny, sisters, Annie, Susie, Caroline, Ethel and grandsons, Joey and Stephen. Special thanks to Dr. Doug Kolsmith for his many years of excellent care. We would also like to thank Dr. Khan, Northside General ER staff and paramedics. George 'Chick' Mansfield Passed in: St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada Passed on: August 25th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we, the family of George 'Chick', announce his passing at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013 in his 83rd year. Devoted and loving husband of Rebecca for 58 years. Proud father of Jeane (Jim), Bill (Rose), and Norman (Jennifer). Loving Pops of Sharri (Stan), Wendy (Brian), Alexis, Tabitha and James. Cherished Poppa to Jacob and Faith. Also survived by his brothers, Peter and Wilson (Phyllis). Predeceased by his parents, William and Mae, son, Jimmy (1975), sister, Jeanne, brothers, Dannie, Orville and sister-in-law, Sally. Roland 'Jake' Kaiser Passed in: Kingston, Ontario, Canada Passed on: August 21st, 2013 Roland 'Jake' Kaiser of Kingston, Ont. passed away peacefully with his two sons at his side in hospital in Kingston on Aug. 21, 2013. He was the son of the late Marshall and Annie Kaiser, Sydney. He was predeceased by his wife, Camilla and brothers, Ralph (Ruth), Sydney and Marshall Jr. (Evelyn), Baddeck. He is survived by his two sons, Kirk (Marsha), Kingston, Ont. and Hugh (Karen), Victoria, B.C. and grandsons, Ryan and Cole, Kingston and brothers, John (Muriel), Baddeck and Wilfred (Yvonne), Sydney and many nieces and nephews. Jake was born in Sydney, where he started his career in the insurance business as an insurance adjuster. He later moved to Halifax and started his own insurance adjusting business. After his retirement, he and Camie moved to Kingston to be close to his son, Kirk and grandsons. Jake was a devoted husband to Camie and a loving father to Kirk and Hugh. He was especially happy when he was attending baseball, soccer and hockey games to watch grandsons, Ryan and Cole play. Cremation and burial have taken place in Kingston. Marlene Chant Visitation for Marlene Chant will be held at Patten Funeral today (Tuesday, Aug. 27), from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be in Patten Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
