Born in Montreal on September 27th,1927, he was the son of the late Frank and Rachel Cater. He is survived by his sons Donald (the late Marie), Robert (Jane) and Michael in Montreal, and daughter Jill, Victoria, B.C. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Marie (Fonovich) Cater in 1993, and three older sisters. Don had retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1971, with the rank of corporal, after 23 years of service. After a family vacation to Cape Breton, he fell in love with Cape Breton and moved to Ainslie Glen in 1972 where he happily remained for the rest of his life. He enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical, especially engines. He loved to travel and had recently gone to Australia to visit a friend from his days in the military. His main hobby, however, was building. At the time of his death, he had partially constructed a new house. Cremation has taken place with private family burial in the fall. There will be no visitation or memorial service by his request. Arrangements are under the direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. DEVEAUX Marie Hélene Deveaux, 87, of Foyer Pere Fiset, Cheticamp, passed away on August 14th, 2013 in Foyer Pandre Fiset. Born in Cheticamp, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Josephine (LeBlanc) Romard. Mom welcomed everyone with open arms. She was equally happy when surrounded by family, picking berries or cooking Acadian food. She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte (Harold) Greencorn, Guysborough; Vickie (Paul) Thompson, Sydney Mines; Simone (Eddie) MacMillan, Judique; sons Hector Deveaux, Calgary; Stephen (Sylvia) Deveaux, North Sydney; brothers Severin (Betty) Romard, Ulric (Lillian) Romard and Roger (Susan) Romard, all of Ottawa; sisters Germaine Boudreau, Halifax; Sr. Cecilia Dora Romard, Thérand#61520;se Bilkey, both of Toronto; Agnes (Vincent) Desveaux, Whitby, Ont.; and Dorothy Larade, Cheticamp; grandchildren Paulette Thompson, Toronto; Curtis (Shana) Lamorie and Jillian Lamorie, both of Calgary; great-grandchild Shanley Deveaux, North Sydney. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerard Arthur Deveaux, and brothers Wilfred, Arthur and Aurele. Visitation was held at the Cheticamp Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to [email protected] KEDDY Theresa Joyce Keddy, 77, Pere Girroir Senior Complex, Cheticamp, passed away on August 13th, 2013, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. She was a daughter of the late Bertie and Marion (Moore) Moore. Born and raised in Pleasant Bay, Inverness County, Theresa later moved to Halifax where she worked as a cashier for Dominion. She retired to Mahone Bay with her husband, John. After the passing of her husband, Theresa returned to Cheticamp where she resided until the time of her death. Surviving are son Glen Keddy (Jackie Jamieson), Mulgrave; brother Hector John Moore, Pleasant Bay; sisters Barbra (Gordon) MacLean, Cheticamp; Beatrice (Herman) Timmons, Pleasant Bay; grandchildren Melissa (Andrew) Warner, Mallory, Glenda and Thomas Keddy, Donovan Jamieson, Jared MacLeod; great-grandchildren Michael Douglas Spencer, Andrew "Drew" Edward Thomas Warner. She was predeceased by her husband John Keddy; brother Lloyd Moore; sister Jean Hinkley; sister-in-law Lillian Moore. Visitation was held in the Professional Centre, Pleasant Bay, followed by a graveside service in Pleasant Bay Cemetery with Norma Mills, DLM officiating, burial in Pleasant Bay Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to: [email protected] PETTIPAS Virginia Adelaide Pettipas, age 86, West River, Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, died peacefully at the Halifax Infirmary Tuesday, August 13th, 2013. Born March 19th, 1927 in Waltham, MA, She was a daughter of the late James Patrick and Maude (Ferguson) Dalton. She is survived by sons John P. Pettipas, Aulds Cove, Antigonish County; Paul J. Pettipas, Tumbler Ridge, B.C.; Donald P. Pettipas (wife Nancy), Halifax, N.S.; granddaughter Anastasia, British Columbia; beloved brother Reginald Dalton (wife Vildan), Ankara, Turkey; sister Anna Boyle (husband Maurice), Sudbury, Mass; Jean (Jack) Morrison, Clarkesville, NH; very special niece Veronica Leona-Porter, Roslindale, MA; many nieces and nephews in both Canada and the United States; her excellent doctor of nearly 40 years, Doctor Michelle G. Murphy and many dedicated homemakers over the years and LPNs and nurses in the hospitals. She was predeceased by former husband William John Pettipas; brother Donald and sister Sara. She married our late father in 1958 and moved to the beautiful community of Tracadie, Antigonish County. She had a long life, positive attitude and a strong American belief in a better tomorrow. She enjoyed painting, reading, volunteering, and above all she loved people and people loved her. She loved the beauty of West River, Lochaber Road, Antigonish County and its people and especially landlady Isabelle Teasdale and Lowell who were so kind to her over the 20 years she lived there. Funeral at St Ninian's Cathedral was held on Friday, August 16th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., burial later that afternoon in St. Peter's cemetery, Tracadie, NS.
