Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late, Charles and Kathleen (Wall) Fortune. She resided in Lingan for many years, then moved to a senior's complex on King Street, New Waterford, where she made many good friends over the years. At one time she worked as a cook's helper at several different hospitals. As ill as she was her sense of humour was incredible. She made light of a bad situation. She is my hero. She is survived by her children, Kathy Rockett, Ontario, Mary Rockett (Mark MacKay), June (Gordon) Smolinsky; sister, Jenny Fortune; brother, Joe Fortune; grandchildren, Ryan Rockett (Nicole Desveaux), Brandi MacKay, little Mark MacKay, Brittany MacKinnon, Gordon Smolinsky; great-grandbaby boy Rockett; special friends, Roberta MacEachern, Barbara Antle, Tina Pickerton, May Sampson; special sister-in-law, Helen (Graham) Rockett and a very special cousin and friend, Adrine Fortune. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Alvin Rockett, daughter, in infancy, Carol Anne, sisters, Hazel Momberquette, Evelyn Beaton, Carmella Cadden, brother, Bernie. Cremation has taken place. A chapel service to celebrate Eileen's life will be held in the McLellan Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating followed by a luncheon at Lingan Hall, Lingan, all are welcome. Donna Marie Campbell Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Sydney Passed on: August 22nd, 2013 It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Donna Campbell, on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Muriel (Layes) MacKinnon. She was a wonderful mother with a great personality, she will be deeply missed. Donna is survived by her daughter, Erma (John) McLaine, whom she resided with; sons, Shawn, Edmonton, Kenneth (Allyson), Glace Bay, Brent Lee (Fran), Sydney; her wonderful grandchildren, Shawn Christopher, Brently, Mitchell, Nicholas, Kiara, Koby, Ethan, Ashley, Beverley Anne, Mitchell, and her three precious great-grandchildren, Rashawn, Kingston and Owen; her dear friend that was close to her heart, Johann Clements; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters, Carmella, Madeline and Theresa; brothers, Fabian, Murray, Edmond and Joe. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Kingston Campbell. Beverly 'Marlene' Chant Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Edmonton, Canada It is with great sadness that, we the family, announce the passing of Marlene after a lengthy illness at the Edmonton General Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of Calder Chant and the late Carole Chant (Phillips). Marlene was employed as a cook and waitress at various locations. She was a member of the United Baptist Church in Glace Bay. Marlene was an avid Edmonton Oilers fan, a lover of music and loved to spend time with friends and was loved by all. Marlene is survived by companion, Ian Gilmore; sister Pam, Glace Bay; brother, Gary (Lori), Glace Bay; nieces, Jennifer, Jillian, Nicole, Kim, Laura Lee; nephews, John James, Justin and Brian; great nieces, Danica and Blakely. Predeceased by her brother, Brian. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for the late Marlene Chant will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, from 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Born in New Waterford, Rose was the daughter of the late Eugene and Theresa (MacIssac) Roach. Rose is survived by her loving husband, Walter McNeil; son, Stephen (Nadine), Victoria, B.C.; grandchildren, Kole and Logan; sisters, Dorothy Neville, Cathy (Paul) Doyle and twin sister, Eileen (John) Cashen, all of New Waterford; brothers, Frank (Wanda), Coxheath, Billy (Roxanne) Roach, London, Ont.; stepmother, Reynelda Roach; stepbrother, Tim (Terri-Lynn), Dwayne (Heather) and Ronnie Spencer. Rose was a person who loved crafts and making special cakes. She liked sewing and knitting, but the most important thing to her was her family. Rose had also worked for Pharmasave for five years. Cremation has taken place and a mass to celebrate Rose's life will be held in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Helen Serroul (Capstick) Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: Sydney Mines It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Helen (Capstick) Serroul, 72, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Racheal (Donovan) Capstick. Left to mourn her passing is her passing is her husband and soulmate, Gerald Serroul and sister Nina Thomas both of Sydney Mines; her grandchildren to whom she dedicated her life, Crystal (Troy) Carroll, Sydney Mines, Lisa Capstick (Phillip), North Sydney, and Destiny Rose Capstick, Oshawa, Ont.; her beloved great-grandchildren, Bryleigh and Mason Carroll, Sydney Mines and Allan Skinner, North Sydney were the light of her life. Also left to mourn are her best friend Hazel (Thomas) Williams, Sydney Mines; special niece, Janie (Frank) MacPhail, Baddeck, as well as numerous friends, nieces, nephews, cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Lawrence Thomas Capstick, sisters, Kay Gillis, Janie Roberts, Margaret Morgan, Marybell MacLennan and Della Loder, brothers, Peter, Patrick and Murdock Capstick. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held today, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish (formerly St. Pius X Church), with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Shore Road, Sydney Mines. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home.
