Born in Holyrood, Newfoundland, Ambrose was the son of the late Bartholomew and Catherine (Healey) Corbett. In 1936, Ambrose moved with his family to Sydney. He was employed for 46 years with the International Coal Piers, retiring in 1987. Left to mourn Ambrose's passing are his wife of 65 years, Gertie (Bonner) Corbett; daughter, Colleen; two sisters, Catherine Corbett, Cove Guest Home, and Theresa (late Angus) MacLean, Howie Centre; sister in-law, Florence 'Dodie' Dalton, South Bar, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ambrose was predeceased by his brothers, Bill and Bart, and sisters, Mary Corbett and Anastasia Cuddihy. At Ambrose's request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place with mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at St. Theresa's Church on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception following the mass will be held at St. Theresa's hall. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ambrose may be made to Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation - Cancer Centre, Canadian Red Cross, SPCA - Sydney Branch or charity of choice. Fraser 'Earl' Wilcox Born In: Big Lorraine Passed in: Louisbourg Passed on: August 26th, 2013 We the family of Captain FE Wilcox 'Earl' regret to announce his passing at home on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013. Born in Big Lorraine, Cape Breton, N.S., to Captain Fraser and Mary Mae (Tutty) Wilcox. Earl lived in Louisbourg with his family most of his life travelling, as many seaman do, many of those years. He loved the sea and spent many hours sharing fond memories of fishing with his mother and father during his childhood and youth. His love of the sea placed him in danger at times, surviving shipwrecks with his father, serving as a merchant marine during the the Second World War and dredging in Vietnam for Irving Oil. A plaque hangs proudly on our wall that speaks openly to the respect his fellow seamen felt for him as a captain for CN - "In Appreciation To Capt. FE Wilcox For Wisdom and Kindness Shown Your Deck Officers. Many Happy and Healthy Retirement Years." Survived and deeply missed by Terrance Wilcox, Mary (Rod) Shepherd, Margaret Armitage, Catherine (Roy) Brousseau, Germaine (Teddy) Drolet and David LeMoine; his sisters, Iris (Earl) Stevens and Wilma Baker. Elizabeth Kuchurean Born In: Scotland Born: December 20th, 1919 Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: August 26th, 2013 It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the untimely passing of our loving mother at her home on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013. Born in Scotland on Dec. 20, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Rose Whyte. At the early age of seven, she came to Canada with her family where she grew up, fell in love, and married Michael Kuchurean. Together they raised two children. She was a member of Holy Family parish (formerly St. Pius X), a founding member of their CWL, and a member of the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Left to mourn her loss is her daughter, Susan; and her son, David (Jacquelaine), both of Sydney Mines. She also leaves behind her four grandchildren, Michael, Adam, Sarah and Jon David; six great-grandchildren, and many, many friends. Besides her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Michael, sisters, Mary and Annie, and brothers, John, Alex and Jimmy. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. Mary 'Molly' Donovan Born In: Ingonish Born: May 19th, 1919 Passed on: August 23rd, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Molly Donovan on Aug. 23, 2013. Born in Ingonish, she was the daughter of the late Ellen (Powers) and George Donovan. Her early years were spent at her home in Ingonish Beach with her family. In the 60s, she moved to Sydney with her parents. Family was very important to Molly, and she enjoyed Sunday gatherings and helping her mother in the kitchen. Her mother dedicated her life to caring for Molly during those years. In 1975, Molly moved to the Braemore Home, where her life blossomed. As the oldest resident of the home, she took great pride in watching over her "babies", going to work, and keeping staff on task. Her concern was always for others, and when the attention would turn to her, her response was always the same: "I'm all right!" Molly loved, and was loved, by all who resided with her, and cared for her, and her presence will be missed profoundly. Molly is survived by one sister, Isabell (Lennie) Campbell, Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers William 'Willie', Jim, Gerald, Gordon, and her sister, Nora. Molly will rest at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, on Thursday, Aug. 29 with a visitation from 12-2 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m with Fr. Born in Pleasant Bay, she was a daughter of the late David and Rose Timmons. Margaret was a member of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River. She retired from the Cape Breton Hospital after many years of dedicated service. A devoted family person, Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Fred) Carter, New Minas; grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Carter and Tina (Jamie) Dearing; great-grandchildren, Samual, Ethan, Spencer, Colby and Jax; sisters, Muriel 'Boody' Thompson and Lois Gromick; brother, David Timmons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Bernie; son, Richard Boutilier; daughter-in-law, Louise; brother, Ray; brothers-in-law, James Thompson and Archie Gromick and nephews, James, Raymond and Kelly. Born in Glace Bay on Aug. 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Cora (Pass) MacLean. Mary lived most of her life in the Caledonia-Morien Hill neighbourhoods, Glace Bay. As a young woman she spent several years in New Brunswick and Manitoba, where her children were born. Mary was a hard worker. She was a long time employee of Sobeys, Glace Bay, retiring in 1994. She loved to bake and cook and was happy to share with family and friends. She loved her dog and constant companion, "Benji." Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by her son, Randy Garcia (Sylvia Daigle), Moncton, N.B.; daughter, Wendy Gillis (Rev. Rod), Halifax, N.S.; grandchildren, Ian Gillis (Marie Lavallee) Marriott's Cove, N.S., Rev. Anna Hoeg (Walter), Indian Harbour, N.S., Neil Gillis, Halifax, N.S., Peter Gillis (Kristin Tanswell), Fredericton, N.B.; great-granddaughters, Ruah Hoeg and Shelley Blinkhorn-Hoeg, Indian Harbour, N.S.; sister, Shirley Holloway, Glace Bay, N.S.; and a number of nieces and nephews. Clare Popovich Passed in: Grande Cache, Alberta, Canada Passed on: August 25th, 2013 The family of Clare Popovich of Grande Cache, Alta., wish to announce her passing on Aug. 25, 2013 in Grande Cache. Clare was 91 years old. Left to mourn her loss and cherish all that she was, are her loving children, Jan (Steven) Dart of Riverside, Calif., John (Diane) Popovich of Cochrane, Alta., Kathie (Harry) Ehler of Dartmouth, N.S., Cynthia (Michael) Daneault of Grande Cache, Alta., Rosalie (Bruce) Gier of Portland, Oregon, Wendy (Murray) Abtosway of Devon, Alta. and James Derek (Barbara Monk) Popovich of Abbotsford, B.C. Clare leaves behind her precious grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, Michelle, Melissa, Sabrina, Natasha, Tanya, Janita, Jason, Christine and Lindsay. Also surviving Clare are her 15 treasured great-grandchildren; as well her siblings, Theodore Porter, Joseph (Loretta) Porter, Neil (Winnie) Porter, Michael (Peggy) Porter all of Ontario, Charles (Sylvia) Porter of Florence, N.S. and Carlotta (Tots) Cordy of Florence, N.S. Clare leaves behind numerous relatives and many good friends. Clare was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John, as well as her parents, Theodore and Rose Porter; daughter, Jacqueline and son, Theodore; brothers, Colin and John and sisters, Rosalie, Rebecca and Sarah Ann. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Grande Cache, Alta. with Fr. Mark McGee officiating. Burial follows this service and Clare will be laid to rest in the Grande Cache Cemetery.
