Very interesting. Guess this is why we must check and report such errors. The census takers during those days certainly didn't realize the impact this would have down the road. Half of them could not spell and write clearly for sure. This might have been qualified material used to hire and pay these census takers. BTW, did they do it for free or did they get paid?
