Dorothy (Cozzolino) Brennan Born: March 20th, 1924 Passed on: August 8th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we commend our mother, Dorothy Cecilia Brennan to the arms of The Lord. 'Dottie' was predeceased by her parents, James and Regina Cozzolino (who died during childbirth) and her dear brother, Tommy Cozzolino, who died in the Second World War. In her teenage years she lived with her cousins, "The Burkes" and grandparents, in their Sydney home. Dottie attended Mt. St. Bernard in Antigonish and obtained a secretarial science diploma which served her well later in life; with Boland's, National Sea Products and Dalhousie School of Architecture. In 1949, Dottie married John Brennan and settled in North Sydney to raise a family of six children. Our mother's capacity to give was endless. Her playful personality, generous smile and quick wit made her both interesting and enjoyable. With a station wagon full of (six) kids, she was never too busy to add their friends, for camping, skating or any other activity including formal and informal roles in Brownies, Scouts, music festivals, sailing and any other event that her children were involved in. Always an outdoor adventurer (hiking, camping, skiing) Dottie and regatta shipmates Jean Mclean, Hilda Tremblett and Mary Astephen were undaunted and known for bringing home the silver in all types of weather. She continued to skate, golf and bowl well into her 80s. Dottie leaves behind her six children, John (Helen), Jeannie (John), Tom (Brenda), Terry (Marilee), Jim (Linda), Pat (Stephanie); 11 grandchildren, Ishmael (Ann-Marie), Jude (Taryn), Miriah, Brittany, Talia, Colin, Johnny, Alanna, Cameron, Chloe and Elise. Dottie always carried a little sadness in her heart for the loss of her brother (who lied about his age to fight for Canada) and a life without her mother. We are comforted in knowing that she will now share their embrace that she has so long waited for. For their kindness and care, the family is thankful to Melville Heights and Gardens, Lynn Fitzgerald and compassionate staff of Halifax Infirmary unit 8.4. A celebration of our mother's life took place on Aug. 10 at Saint Michael's Catholic Church, Halifax, N.S. As per her wishes, Dottie's ashes rest alongside her mother in Cape Breton.
