John Lauchlin “Lauchie” Walker, 70, passed away August 12th, 2013 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late John Dan and Margaret Christine (Nicholson) Walker. Lauchie managed the Inverness NSLC until his retirement. In earlier years he enjoyed fishing the rivers of Cape Breton Island and for over 50 years collected and traded coins. He was an avid fan of the Maple Leafs and Dodgers. He was passionate about spending time with his family and was known for being so kind and generous. Everyone loved to hear Lauchie play his guitar and sing his favourite Merle songs. He often entertained people with his jokes and stories. He is survived by his son, Bruce; daughters Sheila (Allan) MacKay and Shirley (Conrad MacLean) all of Inverness; grandchildren Angus Rory MacKay and Mary Catherine MacKay; brothers Geordie (Caroline), Fabian “Mickey” (Betty) and Walter (Sandra); sisters Rose (Raymond) MacKinnon and Lorraine (Harry) Dykes; and many nieces and nephews. Lauchie was predeceased by the love of his life 26 years ago, his wife, Mary Agnes (Macisaac): brothers James (Ann), Alexander (Jean), Hugh (Florence); sisters Isabel (Dan C.) MacNeil and Immaculata (Joseph) Hartford. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.rn. on Thursday, August 16th at the Inverness Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 17th Fr. Duncan MacIsaac will officiate, interment in parish cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation in memory be made to Inverness Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
