King - 68 yrs Donald Anthony Landry - 72 yrs Andrew Charles 'Andy' Coolen - 46 yrs Andrew Gregory Francis Campbell - 29 yrs Andrew John Samuel - 65 yrs Theresa Dolores Johnston Born In: Sydney Born: August 26th, 1931 Passed in: Sydney/Toronto Passed on: August 14th, 2013 Theresa passed away suddenly on Aug. 14, 2013, at her home in Toronto. Born in Sydney on Aug. 26, 1931, she was the daughter of John and Margaret (Walsh) MacInnis, formerly of Dodd Street. While in Sydney Theresa worked at MacCurdy's. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Eric, two brothers, Larry and Frank and a sister, Dolores. She is survived by her son, Robert, sisters, Frances (John LeBlanc), Sydney, Isabel Smith, Bowmanville, Ont., Mary MacInnis, Toronto, and Peggy (Dennis Carpenter), Lower Sackville, N.S., and brother, John (Mary) MacInnis, Sydney. Theresa will be buried beside her husband Eric in Pine Hill Cemetery on Aug. 20, 1913. Donations in her memory to Cure PSP Foundation, Ontario. Malcolm Angus MacDonald Born In: North River, Canada Passed in: Sydney, Canada Passed on: August 19th, 2013 Malcolm Angus MacDonald, 65, of Sydney, N.S., died Aug. 19, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in North River, he was the son of the late Josie and Kenneth MacDonald. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne (Boudreau) MacDonald; sons, Duane Joel (Jennifer), Winnipeg, Cory Tyler (Wendy), Halifax, and Shannon Phonse (Shannon), Gagetown, N.B.; grandchildren, Taylor, Brianna, Megan, Kyle, Mitchel and Ceilidh; sisters, Rachel Bennett (Bill), Phyllis Arsenault (Basil); brothers, Harry MacDonald, Kenneth MacDonald (Mary) and Gillis MacDonald (Lucie). He was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Buchanan-Clarence, Maisie Gillis and Wilma Ritchey. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at the S.W. Marie (Kanne) Head Born In: Denmark, Canada Passed in: Lingan, Canada Passed on: August 18th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we, the family of Marie Head (nee Kanne), announce her passing on Aug. 18, 2013, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family when called home to heaven to be reunited with Dad. Born in Reah Jarup Aabenroa, Denmark, she was the daughter of the late Adolph and Anna (Beyer) Kanne. Marie was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel in New Waterford. As a result of her eldest daughter, Anne, becoming ordained as a Salvation Army officer (Pastor), she became a member of the Order of the Silver Star. A stay-at-home mom, she loved gardening, knitting, baking and playing board games with her grandchildren. She will be remembered especially for her Danish rye bread. She is survived by her daughters, Anne (Garland), Ontario, Henrietta (Dan), New Waterford, Lesa (John), Glace Bay; sons, Fred, New Waterford, Earl (Linda), Grand Lake Road, Sydney, Wayne (Shari), Annapolis Valley, Paul, Lawrencetown, Richard (Brent), New Waterford, Matthew (Trena), Reserve; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her husband, Henry, son, Gerald, in infancy, brothers, Matthew, Frederick, sister, Leonie. Visitation will be held today (Tuesday, Aug. 20) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army Citadel, New Waterford, with Lts. Josh and Joyce Downer officiating. Marie will be taken to the Citadel at noon on Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, with a luncheon to follow at the Salvation Army Citadel, New Waterford. Donald Landry Born In: D'Escousse Passed in: Sydney Passed on: August 18th, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donnie Landry at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Aug. 18, 2013, with his loving family by his side. Born in D'Escousse, he was the son of the late William and Evelyn Mae (Fougere) Landry. Donnie worked at the Canadian Coast Guard College as a chef for over 30 years until his retirement. He was a scout leader with Scouts Canada for over 25 years. Donnie is survived by wife, Mary Jane (MacKinnon); son, Ronnie MacKinnon, Sydney; sisters, Joan (Bert) Therrien and Annette Landry, both of Ontario, and Alice Marie (Kevin) Ford, East Bay; brothers, Gerard and Wayne, both of Sydney; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Andrew 'Andy' Coolen Born In: Sydney Passed in: Jasper, Alberta, Canada Passed on: August 13th, 2013 Andrew 'Andy' Coolen, 46 of Jasper, passed away as a result of an accident, in Jasper, Alta. on Aug. 13, 2013. Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Hilda (VanBuskirk) Coolen. After graduation from the Hospitality Course at NSCC in Sydney, Andy headed "West". He worked in various resorts in the Rockies and settled at Jasper Park Lodge, a place where he worked and called home for more than 20 years. Andy enjoyed traveling, mountain biking and his "wild critters". Andy believed in living life to the fullest and he did just that. He is survived by his sister, Linda (Greg) Hume, Kentville; brother, John (Pauline) Coolen, Sydney; seven nephews, Jason and Scott Coolen, Chris and Stephen Hume and Geoff, Tyler and Brice Coolen, and seven grand-nieces and nephews. Andy was predeceased by a brother, Gordon and a sister-in-law, Nancy. A service was held in Jasper at the lodge where he worked. Funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel with Rev. Charles MacPherson officiating. Interment in Alfred Smith Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or email [email protected] Andrew Campbell Born In: Sydney Born: February 24th, 1984 Passed on: August 17th, 2013 It is with profound sadness the family announces Andrew's peaceful passing on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, with his family by his side. Born in Sydney on Feb. 24, 1984, Andrew was the son of Lucy Campbell of Sydney and Hugh MacDonald of Gillis' Lake. A graduate of Riverview High School and Nova Scotia Community College, Andrew was employed as the Atlantic sales and service representative for Modern Tool of Calgary, Alta. He was an electronic technician who loved to fix and tinker with everything from a child's toy to a 797 in the oil sands. He had also been employed with NSPC, Halifax. Andrew was truly a thoughtful person and always there for everyone to lend a hand. He loved spending time with his brother Daniel, who was his best friend and twin at heart. He cherished all of his family especially his brother, Paul and family with whom he resided. He loved camping, four-wheeling, the Discovery Channel and debating everything from politics to history and was an avid Habs fan. Andrew was known to all as the "Big Teddy Bear" and everyone loved his big smile that lit up a room the moment he stepped in. He will be missed by his many friends, nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles and especially his godparents, Annie MacDonald and Jim Curry. Andrew is survived and will be greatly missed by his brothers, Stanley (Kelley), Paul (Patricia), Daniel (Jennifer); sisters, Betty (Roland), Andrea (Bobby) and Diane (who was like a second mother to Andrew). Andrew is also survived by his siblings, John, James and Laurie Ann MacDonald. Andrew was predeceased by his sisters, Sheila and Mary, his brother, James. He was also predeceased by his grandparents, Mary-Lizzie and Andrew MacDonald and his grandmother, Elizabeth Doucette. Visitation for the late Andrew Campbell will be held on Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Thursday at St. Marguerite de Bourgeois Church (formerly St. Joseph's). Interment in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, East Bay. The family would like to thank the caring staff in the ICU department at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the exceptional and compassionate care received during his hospitalization particularly Dr. D. Andrew Samuel Born In: New Waterford Passed in: Riverview, New Brunswick, Canada Passed on: August 13th, 2013 Andrew Samuel, of Moncton, N.B., passed away at his residence, on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, N.S., he was the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Hinchey) Samuel. Andrew was retired from the Canadian Armed Forces and worked as a commissionaire after his retirement. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6. Survived by his ex-wife, Elizabeth; son, Andrew (Jennifer); two daughters, Erin (Bernie) and Dianne (Norm LeBlanc) all of Moncton, N.B.; sisters Carol Anne, Gwen, Mary, Jean and PJ; brothers, David, Myles, Richard and Barry, also by grandchildren, Alexander, Katarina, Jack and Jake. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Robbie. Visitation was held at the Riverview Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013.
