MacNeil Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: September 2nd, 2013 We regret to announce the passing of Howard "Howie" Gerard MacNeil on Sept. 2, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney at the age of 82. Howard passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Sydney, the son of the late John and Jane (MacLean) MacNeil. He married his wife Margaret of 58 years in 1955 and lived in Sydney for many years and then retired to Big Pond. Howard was a Sydney business man, mechanic by trade, opening his truck repair business, H.G. MacNeil over 40 years ago. Howie loved to go dancing with his beautiful wife Margie and they were often told they were the most beautiful dancers on the dance floor. Howie and Margie loved to go driving with their friends, Billy and Lorraine, driving all over Cape Breton enjoying the beauty of the island. Howie spent lots of time skating when he wasn't fixing and repairing trucks and engines. He loved his home in Big Pond where he enjoyed with his wife Margie the peacefulness of the Bras D'or Lakes; swimming and sailing with his children and grandchildren. Howie enjoyed the simple most important things in life. He and Margie were active members of St. Mary's parish, Big Pond. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Tommy MacNeil (Brenda), Sydney Forks; daughter, Ann Marie Currie (Mike), Ben Eoin; sister, Jessie MacNeil (John, deceased), Sydney; brothers, Leo MacNeil (Margaret), Sydney, Alfie MacNeil (Diana), Sydney; grandchildren, John Michael Currie (Alicia), James Currie (Morag), Kayla Currie, Mitchell MacNeil, Daniel MacNeil and great-grandchildren, Nathan Currie and Abby Currie along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by in-laws, Billy and Lorraine, Reserve and Rosie MacMullin, Glace Bay and his best friend, Lorne MacIntyre, Sydney. He was predeceased by his brother, Roy MacNeil; brothers-in-law, John MacNeil, Danny MacMullin, Tommy (Regina) MacMullin and Ritchie MacIntyre. Visitation for the late Howard MacNeil will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Big Pond with Rev. Joe Gillis officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel or email [email protected] Mary Ellen 'Nell' Penny 89, North Sydney It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Nell Penny on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at the Northside Community Guest Home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Jane Woodfine. Nell was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Terry) Duff, North Sydney; her grandson, Ryan Duff; her sisters, Annie Mae Day, Montreal, Cecilia Rose, North Sydney; her brothers, Tom (Lorraine) Woodfine, Bernie Woodfine, both of Sydney Mines; and by several nieces and nephews. Nell was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, her son, Gordie, sister, Josephine and brothers, Gus and William. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and volunteers at the Northside Community Guest Home for the love and care shown to Nell over the past 10 years. Joyce ( formerly Robertson, nee Oates) Smith Passed away after a lengthy illness at Roberta Place on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the age of 90. Predeceased by husbands, Walter Smith (2005) and Nathaniel Robertson (1967). Devoted and much loved mother of Ken Robertson and his wife Paulina, and the late Ralphie (1953); cherished grandma of four grandchildren and proud great-grandma of 10. She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Lillian Dingwell and Chic Reynolds. She also leaves behind special friends, Gail Robertson and June Mortimer. Joyce was a lovely woman who loved her family above all things. A special thanks to Dr. Kizoff and the staff at Roberta Place for the care offered to Joyce during her time there. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, from 1:30-3 p.m. at OAKVIEW FUNERAL HOME, 56 Lakeshore Rd., West, Oakville, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. in the Oakview chapel. David Charles Mckee North Sydney June 15, 1952-Sept. 1, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Charles McKee, a resident of North Sydney, on Sept. 1, 2013. There is only life and more lifeĀ.. At David's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. His physical body has been donated to Dalhousie University in the hope of helping others. His spiritual body is enjoying life in a new and more profound way. David will be missed by everyone who loved him. In the deepest of sadness, love is more magnificent than ever!
