Freeman was 67 years old and proud he was going to Dalhousie University after all these years, as he donated his body to science to help find a cure for pancreatitis. Freeman is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Rose (MacLean) of Sydney; daughter, Karen and granddaughter Clarie, Point Edward; son, Ally Freeman Dean and his wife Shelley (O'Neil), Bateston; grandson, Jude and granddaughter, Bhreagh. Freeman is also survived by two sisters, Vivian (Robert) Taylor, Dartmouth, and Nina (John) Manthorne, Wellington, N.S. He will also be mourned by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gordon and Lexie Reid, John and Karen MacLean, William and Ann Diagle, Betty O'Neil and Eileen Willams. He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many dear friends. He held a special place close in his heart for many. He was born and raised in Dean Settlement, Musquodoboit Valley, N.S. and worked most of his career as a heavy duty mechanic for the City of Dartmouth and Halifax Regional Municipality, until his retirement in February of 2009. He spent his remaining years in Cape Breton with his loving wife, children, grandchildren, granddog Burton, family and friends. He was loved by all, for he was generous in the giving of his time to family and friends. Burial will take place in three years time in Christmas Island, Cape Breton. Two Celebrations Of Life for Freeman will take place - one at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, N.S. on Sunday Sept 15 at 2 p.m., with a reception to follow at the funeral home. The second will take place at Sharon Presbyterian Church in Dean Settlement, Musquodoboit on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m., with reception to follow. Kellen Barry Surette Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: September 11th, 2013 A beautiful and inspiring little boy passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Treasured first child of Sheldon and Andrea (Martin) Surette, Kellen was the light of the Surette and Martin families. He touched the hearts of all who knew him with his sweet and gentle nature, infectious smile and generous spirit. Always laughing, Kellen loved to run and play outside, especially with his cousin and best buddy, Landon. Kellen's imagination was limitless and he would spend countless hours playing with his trains and lego. Besides his parents, Kellen is survived by his baby brother, Jonah, whom he eagerly anticipated and adored; Papa and Nana, Clifford and Renie Surette, Grampy and Grandma, Barry and Arlene Martin; uncle Clifford (Colette) Surette; aunts, Kristen Martin and Carrie (Ryan) Marsh; cousins, Jenna, Jocelyn, Ashley, Madelyn, Grace, Landon, Philip and Brianna and numerous extended family and friends. Special thanks and graditude to the I.W.K. Team, Dr. Crooks, Dr. Fernandez, Carol Spicer (bone marrow co-ordinator), the CBRH Peds team, Dr. Lynk, Andrea Doyle, Kim Popwell, Susan MacKenzie along with all the wonderful nurses, Amanda, Kathy, Amanda, Carissa and Mary Ann. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone and Rev. Bill Rankin is Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Halifax.
