Samson - 86 yrs Glenn Douglasa "Dougie" Pasher - 30 yrs Gordie Wadden - 65 yrs Ann Marie (Young) Thurbide - 76 yrs Gerald 'Jerry' Hibbs Born: April 2nd, 1953 Passed on: September 14th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Hibbs due to a tragic accident on Sept. 14, 2013. Jerry was the son of Geraldine Stoker and the late Frank Hibbs. Jerry was employed with Devco for 17 years. He was an avid woodsman and was always there to help anyone who needed it. Besides his boys, Jerry had one passion, his muscle car. He got to live out that dream two years ago when he was able to race his 1969 Road Runner with his boys, brothers and his friends known as his pit crew and his angels Jeannie, Sonya, Elicia and Barb. Jerry was well known and had many friends. He will be missed by all. Jerry is survived by sons, Steven (Megan) and his little buddy, Landon, Andrew; their mother, Gail and the love of his life, Linda (his love muffin); brothers, Brian, Kevin (Barb), Bobby (Jeannie), Frank (Anna), Dwight (Belinda) and Derrick; sisters, Arlene (Gary Peach), Karen (Stanley Peach), Margie (Jason), Michelle and Lindsay as well as many nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud. He was predeceased by sisters, Treena and Charmaine and his niece, Treena Nicole and grand-nephew, Gregory The visitation will be on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 3 pm in Knox United Church. The Rev John Finlayson will be officiating. Calvin 'Bucky' Neal Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Sydney River Passed on: September 18th, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Calvin Neal on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Olive (Grantmeyer) Neal. Bucky was a former resident of Breton Bay. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was a kind and gentle person. He will be truly missed. Bucky is survived by his brothers, Glenmore (Helen) Neal, James Hill; sisters, Oretha Hill and Muriel Deveaux; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, James (Dora) Neal, Alex Morrison, Edward Morrison and Harry Hill. Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Š Theresa (nee MacKinnon) Mazerolle It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa in Whitby, Ont., on Sept. 18, 2013, at the age of 85. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. Formerly of New Aberdeen, Glace Bay, N.S., she is survived by her husband, David; son, Andre and his wife Moragh Cameron and grandson Keigan. She is also survived by her eldest sister, Mary (Mae) of Toronto; numerous loving nephews and nieces, and was predeceased by sisters, Cecilia and Jessie, and brother Fabian. Theresa was a devoted wife and mother, a dutiful daughter, a caring sister, a good neighbour, a loyal friend, a hard worker, and a woman of faith in God. Theresa retired from Sears in Glace Bay after 35 years of faithful service, and dearly missed working with "the girls" who meant so much to her. She lived almost her entire life on Wally Street until she and her husband moved to Toronto to be closer to their family. She dearly missed everyone on "the street" and the warmth and draw of Cape Breton Island. In Ontario she found a new peace, comfort and good health. She was blessed to have the love, devotion and care of Dhel and Avril, and her constant companion, the family dog, Magnus. The family will hold a gathering for Theresa at their home at 447 Whitby Shores Greenway, Whitby, Ont., at 4 p.m., Sunday. In lieu of flowers and cards, please make a donation to your local Alzheimer society in her name Theresa's ashes will be retuned to Cape Breton and buried in the family plot in St. John's Cemetery, forever with a view of the wild blue Atlantic Ocean. George A. Samson It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, dad and grandfather, George A. Samson, who passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his family. Born in Louisdale, Richmond County on Aug. 28, 1927, he was the son of the late Albert T. and Alma Samson. For 40 years he was employed with Municipal Ready Mix Ltd. George enjoyed the simple things in life, and devoted his life to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Beryl (Taylor); daughters, Lisa (Patrick) Warner and Lynn (Gary) MacKinnon; granddaughter, Grace Katie; two step-granddaughters, Katherine and Elizabeth Warner and two step-great-grandchildren, Brennan and Breanna. George is also survived by one brother, Etienne (Delima); brothers-in-law, Edison (Adelaide); Jim (Theresa) and by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Mary and Theresa and brothers, Alfred and Alphonse. Visitation for Mr. Samson will take place today from 6-9 p.m. at T.W. Glenn Douglas 'Dougie' Pasher 30, Sherwood Park, Alberta/New Waterford It is with deep sadness that, we, the family, announce the passing of Dougie Pasher, 30, on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Gordie Wadden 65, New Waterford It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordie Wadden on Se pt. 17, 2013, in New Waterford Consolidated Hospital s urrounded by his loving family. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Johnny and Mary Jane (Spencer) Wadden. Gordie first started working at Gaffins. He then worked as a coal miner for 30 years in Lin gan and the Phalen mine. He also worked on the cl eaning staff at Z ellers. Gordie loved to f ish and hunt. He had a love for horseraces and tasting his own homemade wines. He is survived by his s on, Gordie Jr. (Stacey), Guelph, Ont.; life partner and longtime companion, Frances Woodland; her children, J ennifer ( Vince) McMullin, New Brunswick, David (Brittany), Newfoundland, and Courtney Woodland, New Waterford; sisters, Wanda (Hatem) Abdellatif, Scotchtown, B etty (Bill) Marant, Toronto, and J oan (Ron), Ontario; and grandchildren, Maria, Darcy, Abbey, B ellah and many nieces and nephews. Ann Marie (Young) Thurbide 76, Sydney Mines It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ann Marie Thurbide on Sept. 19, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Young. Anyone who knew mom would know that family was most important to her. She loved country music, bingo and her cat "Fluffy." Always the prankster, you never knew if you would be at the receiving end of her latest. Heaven forbid you come late for Sunday dinner, promptly at 12 p.m. sharp, or you would be getting a phone call. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy ( John), Lakeview; and sons, Joseph (Sherry), New Campbellton, Roger (Connie), Halifax, and Shawn (Amanda), Sydney; grandchildren, Matthew, Jonathan, Erin, Karri, Kelli, Dianna and Ann Marie and great-grandchild, Jackson. Also surviving are sister, Mary ( Jackie) Hunt and brother, George (Allison) Young. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph and son, Darren, sister, Theresa and brother, John. At her request, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines.
