Born in Sydney, Jerry was the son of the late Warren & Avilda (DeeDa) Hanley. Jerry served his country proudly with the Canadian Armed Forces and was stationed in CFB Gagetown, Germany, and ended his military career in CFB Cornwallis. Following his discharge Jerry was employed with Parks Canada at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, where he was very active with the union. Jerry was the current president of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 62, and fought tirelessly for veterans and the benefits they deserved. He was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church, the Louisbourg Seniors Club and was very involved in all aspects of his community. He is survived by his daughter, Ann (Harvey Jr.) Morash; grandchildren, Amber (Barry), James, Chelsea, Lucas; great-granddaughter, Hannah, he was also grampy to Candace, Owen, and Landon. He is also survived by his sisters Kathleen and Barbara in Ontario. Jerry will be greatly missed by members of the MacDonald family and his little dog Cassie. Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Zion Presbyterian Church, Louisbourg. Funeral to take place on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Zion Presbyterian Church. Interment to follow in Willow Grove Cemetery, with a reception to follow in the Royal Canadian Legion branch 62. The family would like to thank the wonderful people at the cancer center and palliative care for all their care and compassion. "At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them" Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Š Mary 'Johnena' Cameron Born In: Deepdale Born: June 21st, 1920 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: September 19th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Mary Johnena Cameron on Sept. 19, 2013 at the age of 93, after a short illness, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Deepdale, Inverness in 1920, Johnena is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was the daughter of the late James and Isabell MacDonald. Johnena was predeceased by her husband, Murdock Archibald Cameron; sons, John and Gregory and daughter, Jussi. Johnena is survived by her loving family who will miss her dearly; daughters, Ethel (Jimmy) Rooth, Sydney; Patricia (Trevor) Hansen, Mira; Beatrice (Dougie) Wall, New Brunswick; sons, Jimmy, Donnie, Murdock (Karen), Raymond (Wendy), all of Sydney; foster daughters, Tonya, Truro, N.S.; Mary Ann Wilson, Fort McMurray, Alta.; Valerie Tobin, Colleen Tobin, Beverly Tobin, Cathy MacNeil, all of Sydney; grandchildren D.J., Colin and Jessie, who she loved dearly, Lena Cameron, who always baked and checked on Mom and by many nieces and nephews from all over. Johnena has 36 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by brothers, Alex, Archie, Francis and Michael; sisters, Annie May and Mary Kay. Mom was a devoted Catholic and believed in the power of prayer. Many would call her to have her say prayers when in need. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's parish. She was a strong person and always took care of many people and often worried about others. Her amazing memory allowed her to remember every birthday and anniversary. You could ask her anything and she would remember. Years ago, Mom loved to travel to see family members. She always loved to have company and no one left without a cup of tea, lunch and a good laugh, a trait which she passed along to her children. She will be missed dearly and never forgotten. Vernon MacIntyre Passed in: Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada Passed on: September 13th, 2013 The death of Vernon Keith MacIntyre, age 51, occurred Sept. 13, 2013 in West Kelowna, after a battle with cancer. He was the son of Norman F. MacIntyre of Point Aconi. Cremation has taken place. "Rest in peace my son." Terrence 'Terry' McInnis Born: December 9th, 1959 Passed in: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Passed on: September 20th, 2013 With the passing of Terry McInnis, the world has lost a loving husband, an adored and adoring father, a treasured son, a cherished brother, a favourite uncle, a steadfast friend, a gifted and trusted businessperson and a hilarious storyteller. Terrence Robert 'Terry' McInnis, 53, passed away peacefully in his Ottawa home on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, surrounded by his loving family to whom he spoke his final words: "I love you all." Terry was born Dec. 9, 1959, in Sydney Mines, N.S., the son of the late Agnes (Sutherland) and Larry McInnis. He graduated from Mount Allison University and remained close to many of his Mount A. friends for the rest of his life. Although Terry's remarkably successful business ventures took him around the world many times over, his priority was always to be home in Ottawa where his life revolved around his wife, Cathy and his daughters, Meghan and Bridget. Throughout a career spanning 28 years Terry was universally respected by his co-workers and clients because of his honesty, integrity and complete mastery of his profession. At the time of his passing Terry was Major Account Executive at Autodesk Inc., having previously held successful posts as Director, Business Development, Nakina Systems; Vice-President, Sales, Coemergence; Vice-President, Sales, Eftia OSS Solutions; Director, Telecom Sales, Audodesk Inc.; Director, Sales, MCI Systemhouse; Director, Sales, SHL Systemhouse; Director, Sales, Geovision; and Sales Engineer, Dipix Systems. Terry is survived by his wife, Cathy (Lindsay), and his daughters, Meghan and Bridget; brothers, Lawrence (Lynne), Markham and Brian (Gena), Kentville; sister, Anne Christine Whitfield (Neil), Belleville; nephews, Christian, Jim, Darby and Shane McInnis; nieces, Erin and Sarah McInnis, and Morgan, Laura and Kyly Whitfield; and many cousins, aunts and uncles whom he loved very much. Terry was predeceased by his father, Larry, and his younger brother Sean, and by his dear mother, Agnes, who passed away just one month ago. The family would like to thank all of Terry's friends and colleagues who gave their kind and generous support over the past few months, especially Terry's dear friends Mike Arno, Jean Caliberté and Casey Van Der Grient. Marion 'Honey' MacDonald Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: September 19th, 2013 The family of Marion Frances "Honey" MacDonald mourn the passing of their mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Marion passed away on Thursday morning, Sept. 19, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital, with her family at her side. Marion lived most of her 88 years on Pleasant Street in Dominion. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Louise (Bennett) MacKenzie. She was a member of St. Eugene's Church, Dominion and long standing member of the Catholic Women's League. Marion was the last original member of the "Peori" Ladies Club which has been in existence for over 60 years. She also enjoyed playing cards with some local card clubs. Marion was well known for her ability to whip up a meal, something sweet or a batch of bread for her family, a church bake sale or community function. She will be sadly missed by her children, George (Rev. Miriam), Margie (Kevin) Hill, Edward (Anita), Francis (Sandy), Paul (Anne) and Ollie (Tony) Hamilton. Nanny also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Marion was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George H. in 1990; two daughters, Mary Catherine and Mary Louise, in infancy; sisters, Margaret, Catherine, Olive, Dorothy, Clarissa; brothers, Art and Charles. The family wishes to express thanks and appreciation to the many Homecare, VON and nursing staff who so lovingly cared for Marion over the last few years. Special thanks to Dr. Michael Gallivan for striving to carry out Marion's healthcare with compassion and understanding of her wishes. Also, to Marion's ladies club; many thanks for coming to her home for the past year so she could continue to be a part of your weekly meetings. "A Mother's Love is a Blessing" Barbara (Moore) Covey Passed in: Welland, Ontario, Canada Passed on: September 17th, 2013 Barbara Leilia (Moore) Covey recently and peacefully passed away on Sept. 17 2013, in her 71st year at Welland Hospital. Devoted wife of Leroy Covey for 53 years and mother of David Covey, Linda Coates - (Covey) and Kevin Covey, will be sorely missed. The Loving grandmother of Amber-Rose, Brandon, Andrew, Sarah, Jack, Josh, Ashley, Shane, Brady, Ryan, and Quinn and great-grandmother of Ella-Rose, will forever be remembered in their hearts. She will be remembered as well as in the hearts of her sisters, Margaret and Nancy and brother, Jerry. Predeceased by her parents, Hubbard and Myrtle Moore and brothers, Donnie and Jack, she now rests in peace with them now. Gerald 'Jerry' Hibbs Passed on: September 14th, 2013 Gerald 'Jerry' Hibbs, who passed Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 was also predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Gerald and Ella Devison; his paternal grandparents, Tom and Margaret Hibbs and sister-in-law, Pauline. Bernard Gallaway Born In: Sydney Born: October 7th, 1929 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: September 19th, 2013 Bernard Patrick Gallaway of Sydney, passed away on Sept. 19, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by family and friends. Born Oct. 7, 1929 in Sydney, he was the son of the late Bernard Patrick and Anastasia (Dawson) Gallaway. Bernie was an active member of the community for many years; volunteering for many organizations offering freely of his time and energy. This included such positions as president of the Red Cross Society for Nova Scotia, a credit committee member of the Steel Center Credit Union, as well as a board member of the Cooperators. As a result of his many years of dedicated service to the community he was awarded the Kinsmen Club Citizen of the Year Award in 1978. Bernie served as a stationary engineer in the #3 Boiler, at the Sydney Steel Corporation, and retired in 1988 after 40 years. Following his retirement, when not sitting in his rocker next to the love of his life, he enjoyed spending his days going for long drives exploring Cape Breton, taking short trips to P.E.I. and Newfoundland and most of all spending time with and teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All of his grandkids are left with fond memories of standing at the edge of Grandpa's wooden rocking chair anxiously waiting for their turn at "See-Saw". Survived by his loving wife, Christina Zita (McCarron) Gallaway; daughters, Linda Walsh (Greg), Point Edward, Bernadette Confiant (Douglas), Dutch Brook, Theresa MacLean, Lower Sackville; sons, Daniel Gallaway (Laurie Ravanello), Mira, Stephen Gallaway (Sherry McHerron), Stratford, P.E.I. and Blaine Gallaway (Natalie Keller), Howie Centre and son-in-law, Kenny Ferrar (Alena Dixon), Mira; brother, Tom Gallaway; sister, Agnes Miller, both of Sydney. Also survived by 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his infant son, David; daughter, Kathleen Ferrar (Kenny) and sisters, Margaret Marsh and Delores Fitzgerald. Kenneth Morrison Born: June 6th, 1955 In honour of our brother, father, grandfather and uncle we would like to remember Kenneth Wells Morrison who passed away one year ago after a courageous battle with cancer. Kenneth was born on June 06, 1955. He was raised in Loch Lomond by his parents, the late William and Helen (MacInnis) Morrison. After graduating from SPDH he took refrigeration at the vocational school and learned the meat cutting trade in Fox Point. He since worked in his fields among other professions until his injury while delivering fish for Shatford's Lobster Pound. Kenneth was a kind, gentle man who took everything in stride. He had a contagious laugh and loved a good joke. He enjoyed fishing and in his younger years liked to hunt. Kenneth is survived by his step-son Charles, son Kenneth Alexander (Ken Alex) both of Halifax and daughter Lillianna at home; brothers Dan Alex, Loch Lomond, David, Howie Centre, and Bobby, Sydney; sisters Ann Neil, Halifax, and Wilma Rhodenizer (Gordon), Mahone Bay; one granddaughter and his many nieces and nephews who remember that Uncle Kenneth was always good for a chuckle! He was predeceased by his younger brother Peter in 2011. ~~Happy times come and go, but memories last forever~~
