Gouthro Born In: Reserve Mines Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: September 7th, 2013 William A. 'Bill' Gouthro of Glace Bay passed away Sept. 7, 2013, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late William Joseph and Sarah Ann (Hill) Gouthro. He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Steele); children, Paul, Oakville, Ont., Michele (Bob) Baillie, Sydney River, Liam (Trina), Glace Bay, Mary Pat (Murray) Kraus, Calgary, Alta.; grandchildren, Eric and Laura Gouthro, Maggie, Michael and William Gouthro, Lyle and Taryn Kraus; sister, Marilyn (Steve) Campbell. Fortune Born In: Dominion Passed in: Ball's Creek Passed on: September 7th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, George Patrick Fortune, 70, a resident of Ball's Creek, on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with kidney disease. Born in Dominion, George was a son of the late Jim and Mary (Hareguy) Fortune. He moved to Ball's Creek, a place he called home for the next 43 years. George was a member of St. Mary's parish, Frenchvale. George worked for Devco as a mine examiner. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially reading to his seven grandchildren. His passion since his retirement was for his tarabish games. Wherever and whenever there was a game he was always willing to go. Thanks to longtime friend Roy Germon and his brother John for their willingness to take George to his games. George will be missed by his wife, Linda (MacKinnon) Fortune; daughter, Sheri, Ball's Creek; sons, Jason (Debbie), Sydney Mines, Steven (Heather), Dominion; grandchildren, Kelsey, Hannah, Dawson, Mikhail, Noah, Sarah and Isaac. George is also survived by brothers, John (Muriel), Reserve Mines, Charles (Betty), New Glasgow, and Michael (Kim), Kingston, Ont. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by a brother, James, his father and mother- in-law, Ian and Mae MacKinnon. George was especially grateful to what he considered his second family, the staff of the Renal Dialysis Unit, with their compassion, listening ears and caring ways. A huge thanks is sent to Drs. Hickey, Hewlett, Thanamayooran and Yeung for their care in keeping George with us as long as possible. A big hug goes to all the VON, nurses, palliative care and handi-trans services, they showed kindness, helpfulness and compassion at every turn. There will be no visitation by request. Vincent Wilfred Isaac Passed in: Edmonton, Canada Passed on: September 7th, 2103 On Sept. 7, 2013, Vincent Isaac of Edmonton passed away at the age of 79. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Anne; their children, Charles (Lori), Tom (Loretta), Glenn (Carolynn), Vincent and Julianne (Stuart); grandchildren, Anna, Eliza, Owen, Zoe, Charlie, Samuel and Thomas; sisters, Irene and Yvonne; brothers, Fabian, Bradley (Dottie), Allan (Marg), Dennis and Russell (Bev); as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Bertha 'Bertie' Moore Born In: Glace Bay Born: December 22nd, 1921 Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: September 7th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Bertie Moore passed away on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her loving family at the age of 91. Bertie was born in Glace Bay on Dec. 22, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Celestine and Adeline (Bourgeois) Edmond. Bertie was the loving wife of late John 'Dodd' Moore for 55 years. Bertie was a fun loving woman with a keen sense of humour and wit who dedicated her life to her family. She was a member of Holy Cross parish and a former member of the ladies auxiliary. In her younger years she was an active canvasser for several organizations. Bertie will be sadly missed by her sons, Jim (Janis), Brian (Jane); daughter, Joan (Henry) Poirier; brothers, Joe (Joyce), Bernie (Wanda), Wilfred (Annie), Dan (Kaye); cherished grandchildren, Harrison (Ashley) Poirier, Jan (Paul) MacNeil, Robert (Tina) Moore, Jonathan and Garrett Moore; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Cheyenne, Cole. Jean Eldridge Born In: Scotchtown Passed in: Scotchtown Passed on: September 7th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean Eldridge on Sept. 7, 2013, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in Scotchtown, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Jeannie (Lotz) Deruelle. Jean was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her children and family came first before anyone or anybody. As they meant everything to her, being a loving mother and wife was easy for Jean. She was an avid hockey fan, and never missed her grandchildren's hockey games. She also attended all of the Screaming Eagles hockey games. She loved to laugh, dance and rarely missed a Mt. Carmel dance. She was kind to everyone. Jean will be forever missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Ruth Elizabeth Christmas Born In: Sydney Passed in: Membertou Passed on: September 7th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Elizabeth (Paul) Christmas on Sept. 7, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Isabelle Paul. Ruth served her community in many capacities, for over 35 years she was a dedicated alcohol and drug counsellor. She was a former band councillor, Membertou Education Committee member, president of Membertou Ladies Club, vice-president of Native Women's Association, Inter Agency committee member, member and board of director; Mi'kmaw Family and Children's Services of Nova Scotia, breast cancer survivor and Membertou Breast Cancer Committee member, Membertou Seniors Club and Membertou's Club 55 member. Ruth enjoyed annual pilgrimage trips to St. Anne De Beaupre, Que. In addition, her most memorable pilgrimage was her two visits to Medjugorje, Croatia. The Membertou Citizen of the Year Award was established in the memory of her son Bradley. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her daughters, Johanna (Keith) LaPorte, Bernadette Christmas (Mary), Diana Christmas (Kate), Paula (Mark) Sevestre, Ruth Christmas (Farid); sons, Kevin (Wendy), Gary (Angela), Keptin Dean (Colleen); sister, Dolores (Steve) Buckland, Oakville, Ont.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; godchildren, Barry Moore Jr., Anita Mae Paul, Lucy Joe 'Lulu' Christmas, Anna Marshall and Dennis Nevins; good friends, Pauline Bernard, Viola Christmas, Isabel Paul and Katie McEwan; many nieces and nephews. A graduate of Sydney Academy, he worked at Sysco until his retirement, was a member of Sacred Heart parish and an ardent follower of the financial world. Allan was born in Sydney, the son of the late Angus Charles and Mary (MacIntyre) MacDonald. He is survived by his sisters, Marie Cipriani, Milford, Mass., and Lorraine MacDonald, Sydney; his brother Rev. Dr. Roderick B. MacDonald, Antigonish, and his brother and sister-in-law, John and Anne MacDonald, New Glasgow. Althea (MacIntosh) Finney Born In: Florence Born: July 24th, 1937 Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: September 7th, 2013 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear sister, aunt Althea (MacIntosh) Finney of Sydney Mines on Sept. 7, 2013, at the age of 76. Althea was born in Florence, and was the daughter of the late Hugh and Catherine (Dixon) MacIntosh. She was a member of Wilson United Church in Florence. She was employed at Stone's Drug Store and Campbell's Grocery Store in Baddeck for many years. Althea was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Edward Finney, brothers, Hugh, Everett, Alvin, Robert, Melrose, Donald, Daniel, sisters, Olga and Lois. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Branle, Ruby Squarey and Mae Audrey (Ches) Sexton, Rodney (Ralph) King; brothers, John and Tommy MacIntosh, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
