Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Loretta Mae (Lewis) Fraser. Joe was a former resident of Edwardsville. He was an avid hockey and baseball fan. He was a huge Yankee's fan; his favourite players were Mickey Mantle and Derek Jeter. His favourite hockey team was the Pittsburgh Penguins and favourite player was Sidney Crosby. He was one of the original players for the famous Pt. Edward Juniors Softball Team. He worked for the Sydney Steel Plant and later for Scotsburn Dairy for 40 years until his retirement. He is survived by his loving daughter, Sandra; sisters, Evelyn Jennings, Marjorie Dow (Rod), Barbara Huntington; brothers, Elmer, Lawrence and Steve (Heather). Joe was predeceased by his wife, Anna (Travaglini) Fraser, brothers, Melvin and Russell and brothers-in-law, Maxwell Jennings and Leandro Travaglini. Visitation for the late Mr. Fraser will take place on Thursday, Sept. 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 3 p.m. at St. Eugene's Church, Dominion, with Rev. Danny Boudreau officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. Online condolences to www.twcurry.com Clarence 'Big Fred' Boutilier Passed in: Birch Grove Passed on: September 9th, 2013 It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frederick Clarence Boutilier 'Big Fred' at the ICU in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Sept. 9, 2013. Big Fred was employed by Hopkins Ltd., Port Morien. His greatest joy was spending time with his five grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Silvia for 43 years and their two sons, Freddie (Shannon), Reserve Mines, and Robert (Heather), Birch Grove. Also by his grandchildren, Roger, Samantha, of Birch Grove, Jarod, Brandon and Logan of Reserve Mines. Fred leaves behind sisters, Gladys Spedding, Katherine Hiscock, Ruth Jones, Carolyn MacIntyre, Doris O'Brien and many loving nieces and nephews, in-laws. Predeceased by parents, Artis and Mary Boutilier, Port Morien, by sisters, Violet Lawerence, Freda Head, Roseiline Meade, brothers, Leonard, Hubert, Freeman and infant sister and brother, Eileen and Clarence. Fred was also predeceased by his best friend Raymond Hiscock. Together again. John Athanasius 'Junnie' Ling Passed in: Reserve Mines Passed on: September 9th, 2013 Lord, you have called me to be by your side, I have left the loved ones that I have loved so much. Please take my place near them. John went to his beloved God on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013. His loving children were by his side. John's passing occurred at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Reserve Mines, John was the son of the late Jack and Ena (McPhee) Ling. John was devoted to his faith and church, St. Joseph's, Reserve Mines. He was employed with the Credit Union, Sydney Branch, for 38 years. He started his working career as a young man with the Cape Breton Post. He also worked at Tartan Downs. John was a former member of the St. Joseph's Men's Club. He was an avid bowler, hockey fan and baseball fan; his favourite teams were the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. John deeply enjoyed going for walks with his buddy, Danny McInnis. But mostly, John 'Junnie' will be remembered as a very gentle and quiet man who was truly devoted to his family and his religion. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Jacques (Allan), Reserve Mines; two sons, Bruce (Debbie), Sydney, Alan (Kim), Boularderie; eight grandchildren, Michael, Terrilee, Christopher, Jennifer, Erin, Adam, Cory, Colton; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Florence 'Sis' Aucoin, Sydney, and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth 'Betty' (Hutchinson) Ling, one son, Keith, a brother, Malcolm Ling and a brother-in-law, Bernie Aucoin. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Dan Boudreau, is Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, followed by interment in the parish cemetery. The reception will be held in the church hall. James Robert Parsons Born In: Glace Bay Born: January 20th, 1920 Passed in: Mira Gut Passed on: September 10th, 2013 Born Jan. 29, 1920, in Glace Bay, James passed Sept. 10, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. The last surviving member of his family, he was the son of the late James and Rosanna (Trimm-Steele) Parsons. Beloved husband of Helen (Denby) Parsons. Surviving children are sons, James 'Jimmy' (Lesley) Parsons, Richard Parsons, Leslie (Rose) Parsons, all of Ontario, and daughter, Helen (Nick) Parpoulas of Mira Gut. Poppa will be deeply missed grandchildren, Leslie (Nicole) Parsons, Christopher (Gayle) Parsons, Justin Parsons, Michael Parpoulas, Nicole (Jason Parsons) Parpoulas; great-grandchildren, Ethan Parsons and Riley Parsons, as well as many nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn are sister-in-law, Millie Parsons, Louisbourg, Myrna Steel, Sydney, Carmella Paget, England, brother-in-law, Gordon Miller, New Brunswick, as well as special friends, Reganold Drodge and Eugene MacDonald. James was predeceased by his parents, James and Rose, siblings, Fredrick, John 'Jack', George, Ralph, William, Joseph, Garfeild and Sara and Susanna, as well as daughter, Doreen Elizabeth, in infancy. James was raised on Scatarie Island and was a fisherman for most of his life. James was a veteran of the Second World War and served overseas where he met his wife Helen in England. After the war, they moved to Scatarie where they ran the lighthouse and later moved to Mira and he bagan working in Broughton Mine. James and Helen then moved to Ontario where he was a stationary engineer for Brewer Retail for over 25 years. James retired back to his beloved Cape Breton with his wife in 1981. Dad wrote songs of coming home, seeing his Scatarie Island. Dad also enjoyed being on his boat in Mira, picking blueberries, making hot peppers and beets, red wine, having a sing-song every now and then, as well as being with friends and family. Dad enjoyed working out in his barn and having his two youngest grandchildren with him, although he often made trips to Ontario to see his other grandchildren. At 85 he developed Alzheimer's disease and this changed his carefree life to one of being in the house all the time, but was still always having a laugh and a cup of tea. Visitation for James will be held from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, and again from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Church, Louisbourg, with Rev. Laura McCue officiating. Interment to follow in Loch End Cemetery, Catalone. Donald Wadden Passed on: September 8th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of my son, Donnie Wadden on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013. Donnie enjoyed and was very talented at his art work. He enjoyed spending time with his nephews, Nathan and Riley, who loved him just as much as he loved them. Donnie is survived by his mother, Edith Wadden; sister, Heather; nephews, Nathan and Riley; he is also survived by his adoptive family, sister, Donna; brothers, Rob, Frank, Tom and Gary, as well as his several nieces, nephews and cousins. Donnie was predeceased by his adoptive parents, Harold and Georgina Wadden. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at the S.W. A chapel service will be held in the funeral home Thursday, Sept 12 at 2 p.m. Albert MacIntyre Born In: Sydney Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: September 9th, 2013 Albert James MacIntyre, age 83 of Halifax, passed away Sept. 9, 2013 at Victoria General Hospital. Born in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late Allan and Lila MacIntyre. Albert worked for the Cape Breton Post for 46 years. He was a loving husband of 63 years, Loving father and grandfather. He was a member of the United Baptist Church in Sydney. He was a member of the Kinsmen. He loved to fish and hunt. Survived by his wife, June (Mollon) MacIntyre; daughters, Donna (Mike) of Enfield, Ruthanne (Albert) of Halifax, Lydia (Donald) of Marion Bridge; sons, Ronnie of Ottawa, Jerry of Halifax; sisters, Hazel and Marion; brother, Jerry; grandchildren, Janice, Jennifer, Graeme, June, and Steven, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents; brother, Jack and grandson, Christopher. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at 2 p.m. at J. A.
