"At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them" Gloria Martha (Hanna) MacGillivary Passed in: Albert Bridge Passed on: September 21st, 2013 We are saddened to announce the death of a remarkable lady, our mother, Gloria M. MacGillivary, on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013. Mom passed on into eternal life as she lived her life, with grace and dignity. She was surrounded by peace, prayer and love in her beloved piece of heaven, her home out on the Mira. Born in Glace Bay, the daughter of the late Bernard and Carmella (Curry) MacGillivary, she was one of 10 children. She was educated in the Glace Bay school system, St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing and the University College of Cape Breton, Sydney. Gloria was well-known in the community for her work as a labour and delivery room nurse at Northside General Hospital and St. Rita Hospital, Sydney. She went on to work in the Mental Health Department of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital from where she retired. Following retirement Gloria joined her friend and colleague Dr. Mary Doyle at her office clinic before falling ill. Gloria was a multi-talented lady, a past member of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, Ontario, and a valued member of the Mira Players drama group, Albert Bridge, where she delighted audiences with her acting talents and infectious laughter over the years. Gloria was also a co-founder and member of the Cape Breton Regional Choir. Her love for music was carried out in every aspect of her life; she lived to sing and sang to live. Gloria was also known to those very close to her for her literary talents. She wrote phrase poetry and had the distinction of having her poetry published. Our mother's greatest self-proclaimed accomplishment was raising her children and watching them flourish in their lives. She was most proud of her grandchildren, the special attachment and love she had with them all, and their great accomplishments. Left to mourn are her children, Lorene Hanna, John B. Hanna (Janice) and John Michael Hanna; her grandchildren, Mitchell, Rebecca and Ryan Hanna; her sisters, Arlene (Barry) Martin, Ursula (Art) Henry; brother, Xavier (Patricia) MacGillivary; a very special niece, Annette MacGillivary (Dr. Martin Goldstein); several nieces and nephews and a very loving extended family. Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Sheryl Hanna, sisters, Thelma, Mary, Sheila, Sharon, brothers, Bernard and Steve, her former husband and father of her children, John Junior Hanna, a very special great nephew, Kellen Barry Surrette. The family would like to send a special thank you to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, the palliative-care team, Dr. Ron MacCormick, Dr. John Ritter, Beth Latham, RN, and all of the other health-care professionals who made our mother's last days as comfortable and pleasant as possible. A very heartfelt thank you to Peggy Jenkins, a lifelong friend, and to Charmaine Haddad-Hatton, cousin, for all the love, support, and helping hands in caring for our mother. Without your help we would not have been able to honour our mother's wishes to remain in her home at the end of her life. We are deeply grateful. There will be no visitation for the late Gloria Martha (Hanna) MacGillivary. A mass of Christian burial will take place at Our Lady of Fatima Church at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, with Fr. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com Glenn Douglas 'Dougie' Pasher, 30 1982-2013 New Waterford/ Alberta On the morning of Tuesday, September 17th, 2013 the unexpected tragic news was received by workers in Chelsea Camp, Alberta as well as in his home town that a life of one of their young friends and co-workers had ended far too soon. The life was that of Dougie Pasher, a friend to many, who like so many others from this small community headed west at a young age to earn a modest wage as a pipefitter. Dougie was born in New Waterford to Glenn and Mary (MacIsaac) Pasher on December 9th, 1982. His curly red hair, blue eyes and ready smile made him the object of everyone's affection at a very early age and all throughout his life. He attended school in his early years at Mount Carmel and went on to graduate from Breton Education Centre. Learning came easy as he rarely cracked open a book. During his senior years he served as corporal in the reserves. Passionate about sports, he excelled on the soccer field as well as on the ice. He served as captain on the BEC 'AAA" soccer team. Scoring the winning goal in his rookie year at the Admiral Cup Tournament in Dieppe, New Brunswick was his most memorable goal. Among the many hockey awards he received, his 'MVP' for top provincial defence at his last provincial tournament was one of which he was most proud. Family meant everything to Dougie, his mom and dad and brothers were his world. The nest was never empty long, if he wasn't calling home or his brothers, he was at the door to get a big hug from his, 'mudder'. He cared deeply for his huge extended family and friends. It didn't matter if you were his 1st, 2nd or 3rd cousin, you could always feel his love and the ability he had to make you feel special. Dougie had a long list of friends and each and everyone of them were in fact his true, best friend. Although he was yet to be an uncle, he was, "Uncle Dougie" to all his friend's children. Left behind to treasure his memory are parents, Glenn and Mary, brothers, Brian (Erin), Luke and Jesse, all of New Waterford and his one and only true love, Alicia MacLean. Also aunts and uncles, Greta Longphee (Cammie), Jackie (Frankie) MacPherson, Nangie (Edna) MacIsaac, Wayne (Karyn) MacIsaac, Neil (Lynn) MacIsaac, Dougie (Kim) MacIsaac, Joey (Trish) MacIsaac, Cathy (Lee) MacIsaac, Margie (MacIsaac) Power and Bunty Duprey, Jim (Wilma) Pasher, Joe (Linda) Pasher, Rob (Pauline) Pasher,Mary MacLaughlin, Judy MacGibbon (David), Bruce (Tina) Pasher, Keith (Susan) Pasher along with numerous cousins who will mourn his passing. Dougie was predeceased by his loving paternal grandparents, James and Gladys (Milley) Pasher and uncle, Donnie Pasher, maternal grandparents, Dougald and Sarah (Kennedy) MacIsaac, uncles, Donnie and Alexander "Sander' MacIsaac, aunts, Catherine (Blossom) Duprey and Marie (Danny) Longphee.
