Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late John and Irene (MacDonald) MacNeil. Marjorie will be missed by many lifelong friends, neighbours and cousins. Surviving are her brother, Ronald MacNeil and sister, Yvonne (Ernest) Jerrett; nieces, Erna (Bernie), Corrine (Tom), Irene (Jim), Donna, Sandra (Herold); grandnephews and grandnieces, Mike, Jarrett, Johnathan, Jamel, Caitlin, Rachel, Tlisa and Vanessa. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Roy. Special thanks to Shannon, Tina, Brenda, Ava, Lisa and Annette who fought the battle by her side. Also thanks to her palliative care team of doctors and nurses, Dr. Kohlsmith, and all of the many homecare workers who tended to her throughout her struggle. There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Parish (Former St. Pius X Church) on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Alexander B. Winstanley Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: September 28th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Alex Winstanley on Saturday, Sep. 28, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Bell) Winstanley. Alex was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Canadian Army. After the war, he returned to his job with Sydney Steel Corporation in Sydney and continued to work there for 43 years, retiring in 1984 as supervisor. Alex was very active in his community volunteering his time to many organizations over the years and had been a recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award for the Town of North Sydney, as well as being recognized for his efforts with a medal presented by Senator John M. Macdonald on behalf of the Government of Canada. He was a life member and former president of Branch#19 Royal Canadian Legion in North Sydney, president of the Legion Bowling League for Cape Breton and past chairman of the Veteran's Patient Comfort Fund. Alex had been a member of the executive of the Northern Yacht Club in North Sydney for nineteen consecutive years and was instrumental in bringing the World Snipe Races here in 1979. He was an active member and former president of Seaview Curling Club in North Sydney, a member of St. Joseph Parish, North Sydney, and of the senior and funeral choirs. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eileen (Scott) Winstanley; his son, Ken, at home; his sister, Norma Jean (Wolfgang) Madell, Fort Erie, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Patricia Billard, North Sydney, and Helen Hodge, Sydney Mines, as well as nieces and nephews, Paul, Lorraine , Nancy, Linda and Gregory. Alex was predeceased by his sisters, Muriel Porter, Marion Smith and brothers-in-law, Garnet Porter and Clarence Hodge. Visitation for Alex will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Joseph Church, with Rev. Patrick O'Neill officiating. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com John Evans Cameron Passed in: Belleville, Ontario, Canada Passed on: September 26th, 2013 John Evans Cameron (Retired SGT - RCAF) passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at Belleville General Hospital on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, in his 80th year. John is survived by his loving wife Doreen. Cherished father of Gail and her husband Kevin, Rick and his wife Tina and Diane and her husband John. Papa was very proud of his grandchildren, Joshua (Rebecca), Kayla, Kaitlyn, Kyle, Brandon and Evans and great-grandchildren, Tristan, Isaac, Peyton and Ava - his "bundles of joy". Survived by his sisters, Yvonne Poirier and Marie Mayfield. Fondly remembered by longtime family friend Yves Lariviere. John will be remembered for his strong family values. His heart was filled with pride for his family and he valued his many friendships. At John's request cremation has taken place. Raymond Joseph 'Fuzzy' Routledge Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: September 27th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Raymond Joseph 'Fuzzy' Routledge, 50, of Glace Bay. Raymond passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Born in Glace Bay, Raymond was the son of the late John Walter 'Sonny' and Patricia Marie 'Patsy' (Marsh) Routledge. Raymond was employed with Joe Parsons and Louis Yates in construction. He also was a former employee of the Main Event. In his earlier years, Raymond was involved in a lot of sports such as broomball, baseball and hockey. He was a Boston Bruins fan. Raymond was known to his family and friends as a loyal and generous person with a heart of gold and a great sense of humour. One of his favourite pastimes was going to "the country" and spending time with families he grew up with during the summers on the Mira. Raymond will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 25 years, Darlene (Boutilier); cherished daughter, Raylyn, who was the absolute joy of his life. Also surviving are his two brothers, John (Starlene), Calgary, Michael (Tanya), Dominion; sister, Deborah (Gary) Fraser, Glace Bay; godson, Shaun Boutilier; many nieces/nephews, aunts/uncles and cousins Besides his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Henry 'Fuff' and Sarah 'Sally' Marsh and paternal grandparents, Cameron 'Tony' and Catherine 'Katie' Routledge. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating.Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Forever in our Hearts Harold Angus Hoddinott Born In: Brig Bay Born: January 26th, 1940 Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: September 28th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and friend, Harold Angus Hoddinott, 73, on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013. Born Jan. 26, 1940, in Brig Bay, Newfoundland, Angus was a son of the late Austin and Elsie (Samson) Hoddinott. He was predeceased by his wife, Alma (Butt) Hoddinott and two sisters, Hazel Moores and Rowena Chaisson. Angus is survived by two sons, David (Nancy) and Dean and a daughter, Elsie; five grandchildren, Cheryl (Scott), Katie, Taylor, Nicholas and Megan. Also by five sisters, Alfreda Rogers, Helen Sharpe, Juanita (Harrison) Gibbons, Ivy (Gerry) Burry, Ruby (Bob) Constantine; his special companion, Glenis Johnston and several nieces and nephews. Angus was a past member of Royal Albert Masonic Lodge #19, past thrice Puissant Grand Master of Cape Breton Lodge of Perfection, Past Most Wise Sovereign of Isle Royal Chapter of Rose Croix. He was also past president of the Cape Breton Shrine Club, past patron of Munroe Chapter O.E.S., past District Deputy Grand Master of Cape Breton Center District, past Impressario and a member of the Nova Scotia Court No. 155 R.O.J.. Angus was also a member of the Nova Scotia Sovereign Consistory, the Philae Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. and Royal Order of Scotland. Angus was an active member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, he enjoyed his time camping, fishing, hunting and square dancing. His favourite time was spent with his grandchildren. Wendell Joseph (Poppy) Carroll Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: September 26th, 2013 With sad hearts, we announce the passing of our dearly beloved Wendell Joseph Carroll (Poppy) on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013. Wendell was at home, surrounded by his loving family and with the compassionate support of the Palliative Care Service (CBRH). Born in Sydney, N.S., in 1934, Wendell was the son of the late Russell and Jessie (Campbell). In 1955, Wendell married the love of his life; and he and his wife Beverley raised four children in their loving home in Cape Breton. Wendell was an entrepreneur who eventually worked for the Nova Scotia Gaming Commission, from which he retired in 1996. Wendell danced his way through his retirement with his dancing partner Bev and the many friends and acquaintances who learned to waltz and rumba with them. He is remembered by family and friends as an energetic and hard-working man of principle with a sharp sense of humour, a penchant for fun, and a real zest for life. He was a man who loved deeply and who was deeply loved. Wendell is survived by his wife, Beverley (Pledge); his daughter, Coreen, Sydney; his sons, Kim (Jane) and Randy (Andelynn), Sydney; and his youngest daughter, Wendy (Jane), P.E.I. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Janine Carroll, Sydney, Sean Carroll (Lindsey), B.C., Amanda Carroll (Steve), Sydney, Katie Carroll (Cory), Sydney, Brianna Carroll (Kirt), Sydney, Clinton Barter (Amy), Sydney. He is deeply missed by his great-grandchildren, Tyrel and Teaonna Carroll, Ashlynn Rose-Anne, Tristan Schrader, Julianne and Payten Barter. And he is fondly remembered by his sister, Sister Helen Carroll and brother, Russell Albert Carroll, Sydney. Wendell was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Dolores McLean, his brother-in-law, Gordon McLean and his son-in-law, John Delaney Coleman. Visitation will be held at S.W.
