Dad was born in Terre Noire; he was the son of the late George and Marie Aucoin. He was an incredibly kind-hearted, generous, protective and loving father and grandfather. Dad always maintained a positive attitude in the face of adversity, and he was a pillar of strength. He had a love for life and was an active member of the communities of St. Joseph du Moine and Cheticamp. He always said there was "no place like home." For many years, Dad had been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph du Moine Volunteer Fire Department. Dad served with the Royal Canadian Navy in the Korean War, where he proudly worked as a cook. He also worked in construction in Waltham, Mass., and finally he worked as a talented mason. Dad was a hard worker and excelled at creating works of art with stones. Dad's passion was singing, and he loved attending talent night at the Doryman Tavern. He also enjoyed a great game of crib. He was a sharp player who loved to skunk his crib buddy, Uncle Bernie, as often as he could. Dad was also an avid sports fan. He once enjoyed coaching the NDA high school hockey team. He cheered on his favourite teams, the Yankees, the Patriots, the Eskimos and of course his beloved Detroit Red Wings. Dad is survived by daughters Janice, Brenda (Chuck) Carter, Lucille (Kevin) Macquarrie; he was cherished by his grandchildren, Jeremy, Mary Beth, William, Noah and Ava, all of Halifax. The kids always had good times with Pepand#61520;re, otherwise known as "Peeps." He is fondly remembered by his siblings, Nora, Sister Ann, George (Rita), Harriet, Wilfred (Donna), Arthur, Theodore (Annette); many nephews, nieces and friends. Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife, Marie Hilda, and his brother, John. The body rested at Cheticamp Funeral Home. Fraser, 87, Margaree Centre, announces his death on September 1st, 2013, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Pleasant Bay in 1926, he was the son of the late Albert and Euphemia (Phillips) Fraser. Although he was raised in Pleasant Bay, he took great pride in telling stories of his time spent living in Pollets Cove from 1932 to 1935. He left Pollets Cove/Pleasant Bay in 1935 and moved to Belle Côte, where he resided until the late 1930s, finally settling in Margaree Centre, where he remained until his death. It was in Margaree Centre where he met his partner for the rest of his life, his wife of 65 years, Marion. His mechanical aptitude led him to operating and maintaining heavy equipment. It was through his interest in equipment that he started and operated Kenneth E Fraser Construction Limited for almost forty years. Upon his retirement, his love of all things mechanical led him to restoring antique cars. His garage was his haven where he spent countlesas hours going over each car in great detail, until it was perfect. When not restoring his cars he would be frequently found driving though Margaree Valley in his 1939 Chevrolet. His patience with restoring every detail on his cars also extended to his family, which was his first love and joy. There was always time for children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marion (Ross) Fraser; daughter Jocelyn (Jean) LeClerc, Dartmouth; son Elliot, Baddeck; and five grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica LeClerc and Joshua, Lara and Merrin Fraser. He was predeceased by his son, Milford Albert, and brothers Angus and Howard. Visitation was held on Thursday, September 5th in Wilson United Church Hall. Funeral service took place September 6th at 3:00 p.m. in Wilson United Church, Margaree Centre, with Norma Mills (designated lay person) officiating. Burial followed in the Wilson Congregational Cemetery. Family flowers only by request. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Wilson United Church Building Fund. Funeral arrangements were in care of Sunset Funeral Home.
