Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late David and Sarah (Tobin) Foster. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mary was a member of Holy Family parish (the former St. Pius X Church) and devout Catholic. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary branch 8 Legion, Sydney Mines, and the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club. Mom loved a good game of bingo and cards. She is survived by her daughters, Theona (Bob) Anderson, Anne Marie (Calvin) Payne, Port aux Basques, Edie (Jock) Brown, Theresa Young, Florence, Lynn Gillam, North Sydney, Maureen (Brian) Snow, Sydney Mines, Carol McLeod, Alberta; sons, Guy (Susie), Gary (Donna), Sydney Mines, Raymond, Port aux Basques; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as sisters-in-law, Edith Foster, Madelaine Foster and brother-in-law, Jim MacDonald. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, son, David, daughter, Elizabeth and son, Raymond in infancy, brothers, Tommy, Billy, Cyril and sister, Theresa. The family will receive visitors today, Sept. 26 and Friday Sept. 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Parish on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Shore Road, Sydney Mines. Special thanks is extended to Dr. Andrew Wawer and the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home Raymond Tattrie Born In: North Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: September 25th, 2013 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear stepfather, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Raymond Tattrie on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Manley and Blanche (Caswell) Tattrie. Raymond was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas as a wireless operator with the RCAF. He was a member of Branch #83 Royal Canadian Legion in Florence. After the war, Raymond moved to Toronto where he worked with the TTC, and for a trucking company for many years before retiring back to Cape Breton. He is survived by his stepchildren, Barbara (Lorne) MacIntyre, Florence, Brenda (Gordon) Hickey, North Sydney, Paul Tattrie of Calgary; his step-grandchildren, Sean, Michael (Amanda) Hickey, Amanda (Brad) Kincade, Adam (Kristen) MacIntyre, Sarah (Alex) Rushforth-Flores, Trent Tattrie; by his sister, Margaret Holec, Florence and by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge Raymond's special friend, Sylvia Fudge for always being there for him and for the care and compassion shown to Raymond. Mary Campbell Born: October 9th, 1943 Passed in: Surrey, British Columbia, Canada Passed on: September 19th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness we announce the passing of Mary Elaine (Hawley) Campbell, in Surrey, B.C. on Sept. 19, 2013. Mary was the cherished first born daughter of Kenneth and Mora Hawley born on Oct. 9, 1943. Mary is survived by her husband, Danny Campbell. She was the beloved mother of four children. Two boys, Daniel Campbell (Michele), Toronto, Dale Campbell, Surrey, B.C. and two daughters, Hawley Campbell, Florida and Krystine (Jeff) Dahl, Calgary. She was the loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, whom she adored. She will be greatly missed by her siblings. Brothers, Kenneth Hawley, Vancouver, Murdock Hawley, Sydney, Chris (Jane) Hawley, Grimsby, Ont. Sisters, Carolyn Hawley, (who was very close to Mary), Vancouver, Delores (Clifford) Sampson, Brampton, Ont., Cheryl (Richard) Joseph Sydney. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, William James Hawley in infancy. Mary Elaine graduated from Holy Angels High School in Sydney and went to work at the telephone company (MTT). She met and married the love of her life Danny, and moved to Montreal, then on to Bramalea, Ont., finally retiring in Surrey, B.C. Mary loved her work in retail at Hudson Bay, Robert Simpsons and the Brick. Mary's passion was travel, as Danny worked at Air Canada. The whole family had wonderful trips across Canada, United States, Hawaii and Mexico. But her favourite trips were the ones home to Cape Breton. The teapot was always on and gathering news from all the extended family in Cape Breton and beyond. Mary's positive attitude and courage throughout her illness was remarkable. She never complained to any of her family. The family wishes to thank Danny for the loving care he provided Mary throughout her illness. He was truly there for her and that meant so much to her and all her family. Mary's wish was to be buried at home in Cape Breton. "Mary, you were a big part of our lives and we will miss you, until we meet again." Patrick MacLeod Born In: Reserve Mines Born: April 20th, 1941 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: September 24th, 2013 It is with deepest sadness we, the family, announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Patrick MacLeod, 72, of Glace Bay on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mildred (MacLean) MacLeod. Patty was a hard working coal miner until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. Patty will be sadly missed by his sons, Patrick (Robin), Ontario, Robert (Lauren), Halifax, Jay (Stacey), Ontario; daughter, Paula MacLeod, Ontario and daughter at heart, Lynda, Glace Bay. He also leaves behind his companion, Mary Saccary and her children, Blaine, Jeanette, Donna and Deborah; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy; brother-in-law, John; sisters-in-law, Joan and Jo-Anne, Charlotte and Shirley; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Patty was predeceased by his wife, Laura; sister, Carmella; brothers, Laughlin, Roddie, Frankie; brother-in-law, Gilbert; sister-in-law, Sheila. Cremation has taken place. Frank Hines Born In: Ingonish Passed in: Sydney Passed on: September 22nd, 2013 Franklin 'Frank' Everett Hines passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Ingonish, he was the son of the late Mullins and Mary Ann (Hawley) Hines. Frank was a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Kimberly Hall for the past number of years. Frank worked in Ontario for 26 years as a steel fabricator and boiler maker before moving back to Sydney in 1987. Frank was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, serving in the army in Canada. He always participated in the Remembrance Day services, even after moving to Harbourstone. He found much pleasure in attending the music and recreational activities at the residence; getting together with the Kiwanis Men's Coffee Club, playing T.V. bingo and listening to his scanner. He is survived by his sisters, Gladys Cormier, Sydney; Marion, Toronto, Ont., cousins and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marion MacPhee; sisters, Edna, Helen and Veronica and brothers, Gordon, Patrick, Thomas and Alexander. Thank you to the staff for all the wonderful care and attention shown to Frank. There will no visitation for the late Mr. Hines. Gail (Stillman) Walsh Passed in: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Passed on: September 6th, 2013 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gail Walsh on Sept. 6, 2013, at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, Ont. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill Walsh and her parents, Leonard and Christine Stillman. Cecelia MacIntosh Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: July 27th, 2013 Cecelia MacIntosh, 62, of Dartmouth, passed away July 27, 2013, in QEII VG site. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Graham and Irene (McInnes) MacDonald. Cecelia was part of the MacDougalls Girls' Pipe Band growing up in Glace Bay. She enjoyed working for the Seaview Manor. Cecelia loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Raymond (Pam); daughters, Deborah Dawn (Jamie Arbuckle) and Kerilynn; sister, Anne Marie (Stewart) MacIntyre; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Gerald LeBlanc Born In: Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada Born: August 27th, 1920 Passed in: Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada Passed on: September 23rd, 2013 It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Gerald LeBlanc. Gerald passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the Dr. Georges Dumont Regional Hospital in Moncton, N.B., surrounded by his loving family. Born on Aug. 27, 1920, in Shediac, N.B., he was the son of the late Philippe and Aurelie (Boudreau) LeBlanc and while living in Glace Bay, Gerald was a member of St. Anthony's Church. Gerald was a veteran of the Second World War, where he served under the Italian Campaign and was a longstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 3 in Glace Bay. During his 32 years working for Air Canada he was known as 'Frenchie.' Gerald had a charismatic personality who will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Gerald is survived by daughter, Alma, N.B.; sons, Robert (Cheryl), N.B., Phillip, Arizona; sister, Alma (Robert) Wilson, N.B. He will also be remembered fondly by granddaughters, Kimberly (Shane) and Kerry-Lee, both of N.B.; grandson, Aaron, Alberta; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Les-Lee and Olivia, all of N.B.; plus several nieces and nephews in the Glace Bay area. Besides his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his wife, Emaline (nee Pickering), sisters, Maria and Genevia. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. Donald MacDonald Passed in: Sydney Passed on: September 22nd, 2013 Donald F. MacDonald of Sydney passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Sept. 22, 2013. He was the son of the late Tina (Dauphney) and Jimmy MacDonald. He is survived by niece, Gweneth Hanam; nephews, Alex and Morgan Hanam and close cousins, Muriel Reynolds, Barbara Morrison, Sharon Tarr and Wilma Nicholson. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Sandra MacDonald. Cremation has taken place. Annie (Kendall) Knox Passed on: September 24th, 2013 The family wish to announce the passing of Annie (Kendall) Knox, Age 91 on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Annie was a lifelong resident of Glace Bay and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Winifred (Byrnes) Kendall. She will be sadly missed by her children, Wallace (Susan), Alfie (Heather), Margaret (Harold), Gloria (George), John (Kim), Linda (Jimmie Bennett - deceased), Jessie (Silby Smith - deceased), Norman (Mary), Jimmie (Thelma) Janet, Juanita, Glen (Rose) Heather, Harold (Margie). Also surviving are 37 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice, Kate, Willena; brother, Myles. Besides her parents, Annie was predeceased by her husband, Clifford; son, William; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; brother, Jake (Dit); sisters, Irene and Theresa. Deborah 'Debbie' Seppola Passed in: Canyon Creek Passed on: September 23rd, 2013 We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Debbie, after a short but courageous battle with brain cancer on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 37 years, Dana Seppola of Canyon Creek, Alta.; daughters, Crystal (Daryl) Imrie of Kyle, Sask., Darcie (Kelly) Coulter of Grande Prairie, Alta. and son, Joel (Lisa Hook) Seppola of Canyon Creek. Also grandchildren, Jackson, Jorja and Jay Imrie, Charli and Kylie Coulter and Jolie Seppola. Debbie also leaves behind her father, John Brewer; her sister, Michelle Brewer; two brothers, Lawrence (Lynn) Brewer and John Wayne (Beryl) Brewer, all of Sydney. Debbie loved sewing, crafts and quilting and always had some "project" on the go. When her children were young they always had handmade coats, Halloween costumes, dance and skating costumes. When the grandchildren started to arrive, Debbie was always so excited with the birth of each child and loved to spend every moment she could with them. The kids were always excited when Nanny came to visit because she always had gifts and treats. Debbie was a very active volunteer her whole life. She was a member of the Widewater Athletic Association for many years and she started the now very successful annual Canada Day parade in Canyon Creek. She loved travelling with Dana, exploring antique or quilt shops and more recently, helping Darcie create and decorate beautiful weddings. She was always an active member of the Catholic Church and had many friends in and out of her church circle who were always welcomed into her home with a smile and a cup of tea. Deborah was predeceased by her mother, Cecilia Brewer in 2001. As per Debbie's request, cremation has taken place. She will be returning home to be reunited with her beloved mother. Barry Joseph Leo Campbell Born In: Sydney Passed in: Alert Bay Passed on: September 21st, 2013 We announce with sorrow the death of Barry Joseph Leo Campbell of Alert Bay, B.C. on Sept. 21, 2013. Born in Sydney, Barry was the son of the late Archie and Violet (Burns) Campbell. Having left Cape Breton at a very young age, Barry eventually made his home in Alert Bay where he worked for many years as a pile driver. He is survived by daughter, Michele Mundy; sons, Barry and Brent Campbell; grandchildren, Trevor, Taryn, Tawnie and Levi. He is also survived by sisters, Cathy (Roman) Fedurko, Toronto, Dolores (John) Campbell; and sister-in-law, Blanch Campbell, Sydney as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Barry was predeceased by brothers, Jimmie, Pat and Donnie and Jim and Rita Speck, whom he loved dearly and always called "mom and dad". Cremation has taken place.
