Born on October 25, 1951, Joselyn was the daughter to the late Clarence and Anna (MacDonald) Buchanan. She was a member of the St. Ann's Bay United Church. Joselyn grew up in St. Ann's Bay, where she loved horseback riding. She spent happy childhood years with her cousin, Donnie and dear friend, Mary Lynn and often talked of their great adventures. Joselyn was a talented craftswoman. Months after a breast cancer diagnosis she opened Milling Frolic Fine Arts and Crafts. This was one of her proudest accomplishments. Family was paramount to Joselyn and her dedication to family was with her always. She believed in community and had spent countless hours comforting others in the latter stages of their illness. Joselyn was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her husband, Murdock; son, Scott, Toronto; daughter, Cary Ann (Jonathan), Baddeck; sisters, Margie (Barry) Stewart, Sydney and Raylene (Lorne) Reid, Fort Murray; brother, Clarence 'CD' (Norma), Fort McMurray; brother in-law, Roddie (Carola) MacDonald; sister in-law, Mora Lund; nieces and nephews, Siobhan, Derek, Ryan, Stuart, Paula, Sadie, Emily and Todd; special friends, Linda (John) Ratchford and special grandniece, Aleah Stewart. In accordance with Joselyn's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Joselyn Sarah MacDonald will be held at St. Ann's Bay United Church, Indian Brook, on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m. Donations in memory of Joselyn may be made to The Cape Breton Cancer Centre Patient Care Fund. Michael MacMullin Born: September 21st, 1926 Passed in: Beaver Cove Passed on: October 3rd, 2013 With family members by his side Michael B. MacMullin, Beaver Cove passed away peacefully on October 3rd, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born September 21st, 1926, he was the only son of the late Flora (MacNeil) and Joseph Mac Mullin of Beaver Cove. A prominent community figure Michael served on committees of Boisdale Volunteer Fire Department, former Boisdale Co-op Society, Community Development Association, former Grand Narrows and District Board of Trade, the Boisdale Historical Society and the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Michael was a member of St. Andrew's Parish in Boisdale and served for many years on Parish Council. Michael had the proud distinction of being the last surviving founding member of the Boisdale Serenity Group of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was truly dedicated and worked tirelessly not only on behalf of his own group but enjoyed and supported fellowship groups in surrounding communities and across Cape Breton Island. He never waivered in sharing experiences, strengths, hopes and a few words of encouragement with those whom he felt were searching for a life of peace and serenity. His interest in politics, sports, community history and family genealogy made for many spirited and humorous sessions at his family table or sunroom. Michael was employed in construction work for several years and retired in 1991 as highway foreman from the Department of Transportation, Sydney River. While there he made many lasting friendships. Michael is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty ('Doris' Campbell) and his children; Gregory (Valerie); Dartmouth, Wilma (Dougie) MacLeod; Shenacadie, Allison (Maxine); Stewiacke, David (Bernice); Frenchvale, JoAnne (Wayne) MacIsaac; Beaver Cove, Clem; Beaver Cove, Robert; Yellowknife, and Joey (Mandy); Florida. Michael was a proud and pampered Grampie to grandchildren; Catherine, Emily, Matthew, Jennie, Michael, Neil, Joshua, Douglas, Seumas, James, Lisa, Zachary and Bryan. As well he leaves behind three cherished great grandsons; Connor, Liam Gill and Lachlan Slaunwhite. He is also survived by sisters; Johnanna MacKinnon, Iona, Theresa MacKinnon, Northside Community Guest Home, and Josephine McNeil, Halifax. Michael was predeceased by sisters; Catherine Nearie, Margaret Collins, Lizzie Mac Mullin, Mary MacNeil, Rita Goss, Chrissy Whalen, Eileen MacMullin and Stephena Gallant. The MacMullin family will receive visitors at St. Andrew's Parish on Sunday, October 6th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Andrew's Parish on Monday, October 7th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Francis went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Francis and Patricia (Parrott) Kennedy and was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, New Aberdeen. Francis attended school at St. John's in New Aberdeen and was known for his love of cars, dirt bikes, fishing, and working with his hands. Besides his parents, he survived by his two children, son, Francis Elliott Kennedy, daughter, Kierstin Lee Kennedy and granddaughter, Julie Kennedy, all of Alberta; brothers, Michael (Chantel), Alberta, Joshua (Allison), Glace Bay; sisters, Jennie-Cookie (David) Reddick, Alberta, Trish-Tia (Brent) Kennedy, Halifax, Elizabeth (Rochelle) Kennedy, Ontario, Beverly (Nicole) Kennedy, Alberta, and precious Delores Anne Kennedy, Glace Bay. Patricia White Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: September 30th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Patricia White. Patricia passed away at her residence on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Gillis) MacDonnell and was a member of St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay. Patricia had interests in both politics and sports. She truly enjoyed watching or listening to election debates and results whether they were federal, provincial or regional. She was an avid sports fan, with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs being her favourite teams. She also enjoyed playing bingo, dancing, skating and spending time with her loving family. In her earlier years she was employed with Eaton's, Metropolitan Store and the Telephone & Telegraph Company in Sudbury, Ont. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Emmanuel and Georgina (King) Anderson. Sheila was employed with the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board for 26 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, listening to music, her favourite singer, Elvis. She received the Citizen of the Year 1991. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Peter Fanning; son, Chris (Kim); daughter, Sherry (Derek); grandchildren, Michael (Vanessa), Chelsey, Cody, Dillon, Jocelyn. Kyla, Brandon, Jordan, Stephanie, and great-grandson, Benjamin. She was a special grandmother to Alexander, Santana, John-Paul, Kenley and Khloe. Born in Scotchtown to parents, Daniel and Mary Elizabeth (MacNeil) MacGillivray in 1910. Mom lived her life in Sydney as a housewife and mother. She was a lifetime member of St. Theresa's parish. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Mae (Bo) Beaton, Westmount; sons, Frank (Carolotta) Binns, Dartmouth and Eugene 'Binner' (Gina) Binns, Sydney; daughter-in-law, Norma Binns, Saint John, N.B.; also by 29 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ed Binns in 1942 and her second husband, Peter A. Sis was a resident of Richard Hine's Manor, Xavier Dr., Sydney. Born in Reserve Mines, Sis was the daughter of the late Jack and Ena (MacPhee) Ling. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Sis spent much of her time involved in activities of Richard Hine's Manor, and was an active member of Friends of MacGillivary. A big basketball fan, she was affectionately known as 'Big Momma' throughout the late 90s and early 2000 years by many of the junior high and high school basketball players and parents throughout the basketball community. She is survived by her son, Kevin (Heather), Sydney River; daughter, Gerarda Kozera (Norman), Sydney; daughter-in-law, Suzanne, Ottawa; four grandchildren, John, Michelle, Denise and Kenzie; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Sis was predeceased by her husband, Bernie AuCoin; one son, John 'Berky'; brothers, Malcolm and John Ling; sisters-in-law, Rita and Betty Ling.
