MacDonald Born In: Sydney Born: April 4th, 1949 Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: October 8th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we regret to announce the passing of Gordon Angus MacDonald on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. Gordon was born and raised in Sydney, N.S.. He was employed with Clover Group for 31 years until his retirement. Gordon loved hockey and music. He was an avid Detroit Red Wings fan. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Mary Anne (Barrett) MacDonald; his loving daughter, Jennifer Lee MacDonald-Cotton; son-in-law, Nicholas Cotton; his mom, Mildred (Fifield) MacDonald, Sydney; sisters, Donna (John David) McLaughlin, Whitney Pier, Brenda (Billy) Cox, Sydney; brother, Kenneth (Karen) MacDonald, Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his father, Donald Neil MacDonald. Cremation has taken place. Yvonne Florence Lyons Born In: Margaree Born: October 14th, 1934 Passed in: Albert Bridge Passed on: October 8th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yvonne Florence Lyons, of Hills Road, Albert Bridge, in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. Born Oct. 14, 1934, in Margaree, she was the daughter of the late Guilford and Lorraine Phillips. Yvonne was an incredibly kind-hearted and loving wife and mother, someone who touched the lives of so many people. She was a pillar of strength and lived her life in faith ... in a way that was an example to us all. Yvonne was a life-time member of Westminster Bible Presbyterian Church in Sydney. In 1957, she graduated from the nursing program at Sydney City Hospital and worked in the operating room before taking on the important role of raising her family. Yvonne is survived by her husband, Barshill and sons, David and Stephen; sisters, Abbie Ingraham, Ann Baxter, Lyla MacPhee and Rena Jelic; and brother, Harry Etheridge. She was predeceased by her sisters, Josephine Miller, Rossie Wilson and Sally Williams and brother, Tom Etheridge. Visitation will take place at Westminster Bible Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 1-2 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., with Pastor Butterfield officiating. Following the service, interment will take place in Oakfield Cemetery, Hillside Road, Mira. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail [email protected] Mary Jane (O'Connor) MacNeil Born In: New Waterford Born: November 2nd, 1917 Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: October 8th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Mary "Bernie" MacNeil, announce her peaceful passing at home on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. Mary was the daughter of the late Margaret (MacDonald) and Daniel O'Connor. She was born and raised in New Waterford with her parents and family. She married Bernie 'Do Die' MacNeil and together they provided a loving home for their seven children and their many friends. Mary was a member of St. Leonard's parish. She was a very spiritual lady, saying the rosary and praying for others several times a day. She will fondly be remembered for her welcoming hugs, her helping hands, sense of humour and friendly smile. To the community, she will also be remembered for her famous apple pies and tea biscuits. Mary loved to dance, play cards, and welcomed all visitors to her cozy kitchen. She also never missed an opportunity to hear her son, David, sing. Mary is survived by her seven loving children, Bernadette Murray, Beverly (Dan) MacDonald, Marguerite (Alex) MacSween, Marilyn (Ambrose) White, Gerard (Kathy), Greg (Johanna), and David (Ruth). She dearly loved her 17 grandchildren, Natalie (Dan), Aaron, Meghan , Danena, Mark, Kelly (Shannon), David (Mindy), Steven (Danielle), Gregory, Carol Ann, Ashley (KJ), Rebecca, Nathan, Jacqueline, Troy, Matthew, and Christopher, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Alexah, Ainsley, Ava, and Freya. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters, Liz (Tass) Poirier and Liz's friend Charlie, Sheila (Donnie) Durdle and many nieces and nephews, all whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her gentle husband, Bernie; twin sister, Kay (Barney) MacKay, her sisters Theresa (Clovie) Poirier, Agnes (John) MacKenzie; brothers, John (Belle) O'Connor and Peter O'Connor. Mary was a beautiful lady who loved her family above all things. It was no surprise when her seven children all returned to New Waterford to live, as she made them all feel so rich...rich in love, rich in kindness, and rich in family. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 11th from 3-7 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Cremation will follow. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, Oct. 12th at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Leo 'Pie' Warren Passed in: Sudbury Passed on: October 19th, 2013 Roy Warren, 70, of Sudbury, Ontario passed away on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at home. He was the son of the late James Warren and Mary (Kennedy) Warren. Pie is survived by his wife of 47 years Diane (Duhamel) Warren, two sons Roy (Tina), Kenny (Karen), grandchildren Katelyn, Jacob, Travis and Mathew. He is also survived by sisters, Theresa Southwell (Michael), MacAskills Brook; Hazel MacIntyre (the late Danny), Sydney; Lorraine MacIntyre (the late Angus), Toronto; Frances MacNeil, (the late Michael), Glace Bay; brothers, Hector (Edna), Birch Grove; Robert, Birch Grove; Thomas (Louise), Birch Grove and William (Vilma), Oshawa. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Charlene. He grew up in Glace Bay (his heart Cape Breton) and later moved to Sudbury where he worked with Inco nickel mine for 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and just adored his grandchildren. In accordance with Pie's wishes, cremation has taken place in Sudbury. Joe was born in Clydebank, Scotland on May 25, 1942 to his parents, Joseph Roy and Jinnie (Osborne) MacInnis. Joe was raised in Sydney, N.S. and moved to Ontario in his teen years. He was a longtime employee of Sunar Houseman and in his early years he enjoyed many sports activities. Joe was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Peter. He is survived by his two daughters, Kandy and Shelley and two granddaughters, all living in Ontario; sister, Angie (Phillip), Kitchener; brothers, Dave, Cambridge, Ont., Roger (Kelly) and Jason (Catherine); sister-in-law, Brenda MacInnis, all living in Kitchener; brother, Colby; sisters, Debbie (Bob), Pam (Phil) and Wendy (Stephen), all of Sydney. Stanley Murrant Born In: Port Morien Born: March 27th, 1929 Passed in: Port Morien Passed on: October 6th, 2013 We the family of Stanley Archibald Murrant announce his passing on Sunday, Oct. 6, at home, with family at his side. Born in Port Morien, he was the son of the late William & Blanche (Brann) Murrant. He was a successful commercial fisherman, many of those years with his son Allan. In his younger years he worked in Broughton coal mines and as a snowplow operator for the Dept of Highways. His passion was fishing, especially swordfish. He loved hunting rabbits and in his retirement walking at Schooner Pond, Morien Sandbar and Sand Lake Road. Surviving are son, Allan (Cathy )Murrant, Sand Lake; daughter, Sharon (Donald) Cameron, Mabou; sister, Joyce (Albert) Hooper; brothers, Eddie (Blanche), Glace Bay, Nelson 'Ness' (Sandra), Long Beach; grandchildren, Kevin, Emily, Erin Murrant, Allan, Stuart Cameron.
