Cape Breton Deaths courtesy of CAPE BRETON GENEALOGY & HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION VISIT OUR WEBSITE - <http://www.cbgen.org/>www.cbgen.org NEW MEMBERS WELCOME Cape Breton Deaths October 18, 2013 Friday There are 2 obituaries published today Thomas Michael Edward "Tommy" Egdell - 72 yrs Kevin Francis Baxendale - 76 yrs Thomas ' Tommy' Michael Edward Egdell 72, Victoria Mines Thomas ' Tommy' Egdell, 72, of Victoria Mines, N.S., passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Oct. 15, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a long, hard battle with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH). Tommy was born in Glace Bay to the late Edward and Mary (Colson) Egdell and moved to New Wateford as a very young boy. He lived many years in Ontario where he worked for Ontario Hydro until his retirement. Tommy moved to Oxford, N.S., for a few years before moving home to Cape Breton, N.S. Tommy was the president of the Oxford Branch Legion. He loved fishing in Margaree every chance he could get and while there, he also enjoyed sitting around the bonfire with his family and friends. The highlight of his fishing days was the trip to Kississing Lake Lodge, Northern Manitoba, with his wife, brother, Bobby and wife Linda. Tommy was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved you all deeply. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances (Barbe) Egdell; son, Thomas ' Doozer' (Pearl); daughters, Susan (Charlie) McLeod, Karen (David) Nemis, all of New Waterford, Sherry Pederson and extended family Brenda Pederson and Jerry Pederson; stepson, Daniel Lamothe; stepdaughter, Jacqueline Parsons; grandchildren, Jennifer and Danielle Egdell, Jason, Darryl and Renee McLeod, Samantha and Chelsea Nemis; grandson, Jerry Pederson; granddaughters, Ashley Saunders and Latisha Pederson; step-grandchildren, Christopher and Katerina Parsons; great-grandchildren, Alicia and Natalie Bauld, Emma Pederson, Lucas and Zackary Saunders; brother, John Robert 'Bobby' (Linda); favourite niece, Allison Egdell, 'always in my thoughts.' There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A private funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, Dartmouth, N.S. at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Association, Halifax. Kevin Francis Baxendale 76, Dartmouth/Sydney Mines Kevin Francis Baxendale, 76, of Dartmouth, formerly of Sydney Mines, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, Hants County. Born on Sept. 3, 1937, in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Arthur Baxendale and Jean (MacNeil) Baxendale-Purdie. Kevin was employed as an electrician with Marine Atlantic until his retirement. He loved sports, music, hunting, fishing, and was an avid reader. He was much loved by his wife, children and grandchildren. Kevin is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Carol Marie MacDonald; his children and grandchildren, Paul (Monique) Baxendale, Halifax (Christian, Olivia); Peter Baxendale, Halifax (Briagh); Darren Baxendale, Dartmouth ( Josh, Luc, Emily, Megan); Lynn (Trent) Coady, Dartmouth ( Joel, Brennan, Aidan); Holly (Derrick) MacDonald, North Smithfield, Rhode Island (Rory, Hanna, Miranda, Cullen, Caiden); Steven (Sugki) Baxendale, Seoul, Korea (Conner); Nicole ( Jason) Forrest, Wilmot (Abigale, Cole, Eliot, Charlotte); sisters, Arthena Stubbert, Dartmouth; Cathy (Hugh) Kieley, Ohio; stepsister, Pauline (Shirl) Hillier, Boularderie, Cape Breton; brothers, Paul Baxendale, Florida; Gordon (Inge) Baxendale, Colorado; Joe (Rose) Purdie, Dartmouth; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Ava Cordy; Jean Pero; stepsister, Patricia Baxendale; brothers, Cyril Baxendale; Arnold Baxendale; John Purdie. Cremation has taken place under the care of Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home (902) 798-2232, 194 King St., Windsor, N.S., B0N 2T0. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, in St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 320 Flying Cloud Dr., Dartmouth, with Rev. Fr. Dariusz Misiolek officiating. Reception will follow in the Stewardship Centre, at the Church. Interment will be held at a later date.
