Born in Indian Brook, Victoria County on April 30, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Donald John (DJ) and Annabelle (MacDonald) Smith. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended services when she was able to do so. Christine was a graduate of Baddeck Rural High. She was a graduate of New Waterford Consolidated Hospital as a CNA and worked for many years at the Victoria County Hospital and at St. Rita Hospital until ill health forced her to retire. During her illness, Christene was able to remain at home in the comfort of her loving family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting, crosswords and watching birds. She was an avid reader and had a great love for animals. She is survived by sister, Margaret MacKenzie; brothers, John and Winston Smith, Indian Brook; nephew, Craig Matheson, Breton Cove; nieces, Michelle Martell (Michael), Yarmouth, and Susan Matheson (Stephen), Big Baddeck; grandnephews, Michael (Morgan) and Owen Matheson, Breton Cove; grandnieces, Nora and Kamryn Fownes, Big Baddeck. Christene was predeceased by her parents, sister, Evelyn Matheson, nephew, Brad Matheson, Breton Cove, and a sibling in infancy. There will be a visitation at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, North River Bridge, N.S., Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Edwin 'Stanley' Kendall Born: June 19th, 1944 Passed in: Summerside, Canada Passed on: October 25th, 2013 The death of Edwin 'Stanley' occurred peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, P.E.I. on Friday, October 25th , 2013 of Edwin 'Stanley' Kendall of Summerside, P.E.I. and formerly of Newfoundland, aged 69 years. Stan was born on June 19th, 1944 on Ramea Island, NFLD. to his parents Margaret Skinner (nee Kendall ) and the late Dorcie Kendall. Charlie Reid Passed in: Sydney River Passed on: October 24th, 2013 Charles Edward Reid, 83 of Sunrise Drive died peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Westmount he was the son of the late George and Mary Reid. As a young man Charles was an avid athlete and participated in numerous sports; softball, badminton, and later became very active in the Sydney Curling Club where he served as a director. He was also a member of the Lingan Golf and Country Club. For many years Charlie was employed with Scotia Limestone and later retired in the mid 1990's from Sydney Steel. Surviving are his wife the former Joan McManus; daughter, Carolyn (David) McPhee, Toronto and two granddaughters, Claire and Julie; sisters, Joan and Zelda. Charles is also survived by his very close family members; Rev. Ora McManus, Bill (Bernice) McManus and Carolyn (David) Winfield. Predeceased by seven siblings. Pauline Collier (Higgs) Born In: Montana Passed in: St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada Passed on: October 19th, 2013 Pauline was a daughter of the late Ambrose and Armour Higgs. Joseph 'Vincent' Flemming Passed in: Sydney Passed on: October 23rd, 2013 With heavy hearts and great sorrow, we, the family, wish to announce the passing of Vince - a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was the 4th of 14 children to the late Dave and Eva (Hillier) Flemming of Millville. Vince worked as a stevedore for Marine Atlantic, and also as a steward on MV Caribou, but his true love, besides Liz, was truck driving. He was known to all his trucker buddies as "Hungry Farmer." He was a loyal driver for Capstick's Trucking in Bras d'Or. In the past few years, Vince enjoyed and took great pride in his vegetable garden and well-kept yard. Grass was to be mowed precisely! He was a very proud Poppy to his eight grandchildren; he loved them dearly. Vince is survived by his wife of 37 years, Elizabeth (Young); sons David (Michelle), and Joey (Shannon) of Peterborough, Ont., his eight grandchildren; Tyler, Hunter, Jack, Nolan, Hailey, Ainsley, Ella Rose and Josie, and two special grand nieces, MacKenzie and Emily Mae. Born in Sydney on Aug. 18, 1950, Judy was the daughter of the late Vincent and Margaret (Peters) Brophy. Judy is survived by her sisters, Betty McCormick, Jean Brophy, Patsy (Walter) Twerd; brothers, Frank (Liz), Vince, Bobby (Mabel), Donnie, Tommy and Terry; as well as several nieces and nephews.
