Born Aug. 21, 1926 in Lingan, and a lifelong resident of New Waterford, he was a son of the late Walter and Annie (Ryley) Petrie. Walter started working in the coal mines at an early age, eventually retiring from Devco. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and the men's club of Saint Agnes parish. His passions were many including skating, darts, swimming, camping and traveling. When Walter entered a room there was always much laughter and there are many people who can tell a Walter Petrie story. His children can relate to his repair methods and his determination to make things work. To Walter, nothing was broken that could not be mended and being very inventive, what was broken was generally repaired. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia, Truro, Janet (Vernon) Lord, Washougal, WA; sons, Walter (Donna), Gerald (Darlene), of New Waterford; grandchildren, Carrie (Troy), Amanda (Barb), Kristin (Curly), Natasha, Jor-El, Riel, Nelson, Petra; great-grandchildren, Jarrin, Kaiden, Rylan, Benjamin, Emma, Sophie; brothers, Joseph (Agnes), Donnie (Monnie) and sister, Mary (Allie) MacKenzie. Besides his parents Walter and Annie, he was predeceased by his wife, Christina (MacDonald); son, Dougie and brothers, Douglas and Lionel. Visitation will be held today (Friday), Oct. 4 from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Members of the Knights of Columbus will assemble at the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment will be in Saint Agnes Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford. Laura Moore Born In: Georgetown, Canada Passed in: Sydney Passed on: October 1st, 2013 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Laura Moore on Oct. 1, 2013 at the MacGillvray Guest Home in Sydney. Born in Georgetown, P.E.I, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Irving) MacDonald. Laura liked to play darts at the Army Navy & Air Force. She was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan, and loved the Toronto Blue Jays. She never missed a game. She is survived by her daughter, Carla (Dave) Reid, New Waterford; sister, Tean Westaway, New Glasgow; grandchildren Sonya (Grant), Roxanne (Steven) and Shannon (Steven) and great-grandchildren Parker, Paige, Nolan, Madison, Tyler, Brianna. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl Moore. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Laura's life will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the chapel at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500 with Rev. James Franklin Tarr 26, Sydney We regret to announce the passing of our much loved son, James Franklin Tarr on Oct. 2, 2013, at home. He is survived by his loving parents, Cheryl Moore-Tarr and Kenneth Tarr; his grandmother, Vera Moore; as well as a large extended loving family. He was predeceased by his twin brother and best friend, Philip Robert Tarr, grandparents, "Nanny" Vivian and Frank Tarr, grandfather, "Papa" Robert Moore. James was a talented artist, musician and tattoo artist. He was a tender and compassionate person, especially toward cats, and along with his Mom, nursed many strays to health over the years. Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, in the funeral home chapel with Rev.
