Born and raised in Mill Creek on Jan. 9, 1953, Maureen was the daughter of the late George and Iris (Robbins) Pendergast. Maureen 'Ma' worked alongside her husband Creighton and family for many years operating Briggs Construction. In her early years Ma worked at Nickerson's fish plant where she made numerous friends, many of whom she kept in touch with through the years. Ma would always have a friendly hello for just about anybody she would meet and strike up a conversation with them as well. Ma was certainly the rock of our family and always willing to offer a piece of advice or a helping hand. She was a self-sacrificing person always putting her family's needs ahead of her own. Ma had a love for animals, she owned many dogs, cats, horses, and even a squirrel that she named Squirrelly that she would make sure was fed everyday. She would adopt any animal in need and invite them into her loving home. Ma would usually be found in the horse barn with Nancy caring for and cleaning the horses, one of her miniature horses that she had a particular fondness for was Sonny Ray Lee, whom she always had to have a handful of raisins for, they will all certainly miss her. Maureen is survived by her husband of 40 years, Creighton Briggs; her daughter, Nancy (Terry) Hendrix; her son, Creighton Jr. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret (Jerry) McLeod; brother, George (Carol) Pendergast; sister, Brenda (John) Chadwick; brothers, Brian (Joanne) Pendergast and Dave (Colleen) Pendergast; and sister, Joyce (Brian) Fraser.
