MacLeod - Shirley (Moules) Porter - Mary (LeBlanc) Yhard Born In: Grand Etang Passed in: Sydney Passed on: October 10th, 2013 It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Steelworkers Lane, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Grand Etang in 1917. She was one of 16 children of the late Emilien and Julie (Chiasson) LeBlanc. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Alma is survived by her loving children, Jerry (Judy) Yhard, Howie Centre, Julie Cummings, Howie Centre, Valerie (Paul) O'Brien, Sydney Forks, Kirk (Ann) Yhard, Sydney, her eight wonderful grandchildren, Lynda, Jason, Mark, Shane, Shelby, Candace, Ryan and Kayla, her four precious great grandchildren, Ryan, Ayden, Faith, and Logan, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gerald (1987); son-in-law, Thomas Cummings (2000). The family is very grateful to the wonderful caring staff at Harbourstone Steelworkers Lane who made Mom's life so comfortable during her six years there. They were always rewarded with a huge smile. Respecting Mom's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a later date. Margaret 'Garvie' Roach Born In: Dominion Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: October 10th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Margaret Garvie Roach, age 76, of Dominion after a courageous battle with cancer. Garvie passed away on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Dominion, Garvie was the daughter of the late William and Sadie (Butts) Higgins. Garvie was an avid dart player. She also enjoyed to dance and loved playing games on the computer. Garvie leaves to mourn her three loving children, Karen, Michele (Craig McNeil), Joseph and special grandson, Christopher; sister, Marion McInnis; brothers, William (Margaret), Joseph (Harriet) and best friends, Betty McDonald, Tilly Mercer and Joan McNeil. Besides her parents, Garvie was predeceased by her husband, Aloysius Roach; sister, Mary, in infancy; brothers, Michael, in infancy and James "Jimmy"; brother-in-law, Richard McInnis; sister-in-law, Donna Higgins. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 at St. Eugene's Church, Dominion with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Elizabeth Aucoin Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: October 11th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Elizabeth Aucoin on Friday, Oct. 11, at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Anne (Roach) LeBlanc. Elizabeth was a devout member of St. Joseph's Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her two daughters, Carol (John) O'Neill, Sydney River, Leona (Mike) Colijns, Calgary Alta.; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Leo; son, Robert; brothers, William, George, Daniel; sisters, Anna, Mary, Alice, Lucy and Agnes. Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines. The Rev. Daniel Boudreau will be officiating. The interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Merle Crowe Born In: New Waterford Passed in: Dartmouth Passed on: October 9th, 2013 Merle, a kind and gentle man, passed away peacefully Oct. 9, 2013 with his loving wife by his side. Born in New Waterford, he moved to Sydney in the early 40s. He was a son of the late Charles and Josephine (MacDonald) Crowe. At a young age, Merle developed a keen interest in sports and played in the first little league baseball game in Canada. Merle enjoyed life and was particularly fond of golfing with his buddies at Hartlen Point, his Friday night card games at Bob's house, and participated in many heated "political debates", with his good friends at the Buffalo Club, most often initiated by his good friend, Kenny MacLeod. Merle was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing many culinary delights for family and friends. Merle served in the military (Air Force) for 26 years and his postings took him to many parts of Canada, along with Several U.N. tours, including Egypt and Pakistan. Upon retirement, he worked on the oil rigs for several years, then joined the Corp of Commissionaires at the V. G. Hospital retiring in 1998. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 30 years, Edie Moffatt and will be sorely missed by his siblings: sister, Coreen (Charlie); brothers, Milo (Patricia), Charles (Carol), Melvin (Margie), Lowell (Darlene); sister-in-law, Elaine (Jim) Featherby; several nieces and nephews, several grand nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his loyal feline friend, Lizzie. A legion service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth.
