Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Harold and Viola (MacIntosh) Ferguson. Danny was employed at Walmart for seven years and at Milnes IGA for over 24 years and Sterling IGA for a short time. He also worked at several call centers. Danny was a free an independent spirit and was known to have a dry sense humour. Danny loved his dog Tippy. He was a former member of Chalmers United Church, Dominion. Surviving is his brother Johnny, Dominion. Predeceased by parents. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Memorial service for Danny will be held in Patten Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clayton Austin officiating. Burial at later date. Reception to follow. Michael Francis 'Frank' Murphy Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: October 8th, 2013 Frank Murphy, 72, of Dodd Street, Glace Bay, passed away on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital (An Cala unit). Born in Glace Bay, Frank was the son of the late George 'Skipper' and Colette (Nearing) Murphy. Frank was a self-employed carpenter and worked in Ontario for many years. He was an avid Elvis Presley and Montreal Canadiens fan. He also loved karaoke and singing. He was very spiritual and devoted to St. Francis of Assisi; he also shared the love of animals the same as his patron saint. He was a very quiet and gentle man who will be dearly missed. Frank is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Collins) Murphy; one daughter, Lisa White (Steve) and one son, Scott (Chris), both in Ontario. Also surviving are Frank's 10 sisters, Vera (Leo) Popwell, Diane (Howard) Lawrence, Joan Power, Paula Murphy, Patricia (Francois) Lepage, Gloria (Luigi) Coculuzzi, Donna (Blair) Morgan, Ann Marie (David) Brown, Debbie Murphy (Mike), Sandy (Brian) Watkins; four brothers, James 'Buddy' (Patsy), George (Irene), Fabian, Sheldon 'Shelly' (Louise); five grandchildren, Nicole, Shawn, Tyler, Meaghan and Cassidy; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by a sister, Heather in infancy. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Norman MacPhee, is Wednesday, 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church followed by interment in St. Anne's Cemetery. Marjo MacDonald Born In: Castle Bay Passed in: Northside East Bay Passed on: October 5th, 2013 We the family regret to announce the sudden passing of Marjo (MacNeil) MacDonald at home, on Oct. 5, 2013. Born in Castle Bay, she was the daughter of the late Danny Stephen and Mary Catherine 'Tossel' (Bryden) MacNeil. Marjo is survived by her husband Danny MacDonald; and four children, Bryden (Wanda) MacDonald, Westmount, Lisa (Tag) MacDonald, Ottawa, Judey MacDonald, St. Andrews, and Brenda (Allan) Bragg, Halifax. She is also survived by special nephew, Peter MacNeil, Elmsdale; and five grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by son, Dan Gerard, in infancy, and sister Alena MacNeil. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Oct. 10, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Parish, East Bay, with Fr. Frank Abbass officiating. David Wylde Born In: Sydney Passed in: Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada Passed on: September 30th, 2013 It's with sad and heavy hearts that our family has to announce the sudden passing of Dave on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 57. Born in Sydney, he was the son the late Mary Jean Wylde. Dave was a retired engineer of the Canadian Armed Forces. He was a leader, mentor, father, husband, brother, soldier, coach, instructor, Leaf's fan, role model, humorous . . . there is an endless list of ways to offer a description. Above all else; an awesome family man, a fine gentleman, and truly a wonderful brother and friend. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Theresa; daughter, Sarah and dog, Sydney. Marguerite Fahey Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Boston Passed on: October 5th, 2013 We were saddened to receive the news of the passing of our dear sister, Marguerite (Morrison) Fahey on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013. Marguerite was the daughter of the late Hugh and Sarah Morrison. She grew up in Glace Bay and later moved to Boston with her husband and children. Marguerite was predeceased by her husband, Michael; brothers, Lloyd, John, Angus, George and dear sister, Joan. Also predeceased by special aunt, Jessie MacPherson. Surviving are daughters, Patricia and Sharon; son, Wayne; grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Boston. Also left to mourn are sisters, Jessie and Anne and brother, Danny (Phyllis); several nieces and nephews, who thought the world of her. "Always in our hearts." Sheila Matheson Born In: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Born: March 20th, 1971 Passed in: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Passed on: October 1st, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of our beloved daughter, wife, sister, mother, aunt and friend, Sheila Marie Matheson, aged 42, on Oct. 1, 2013, in Toronto, Ont. Born in Sydney Mines, Sheila was the daughter of Helen and Kenneth Matheson. Sheila resided in Cape Breton working in the nursing field until she relocated to Toronto, Ont. in 2005 where she began working in the security industry. Sheila is survived by her husband, Leo Sealy; three stepchildren, Tiffany Faith, Leo John and Drusilla Mary; parents, Helen and Ken Matheson; two sisters, Tanya (Daniel Hillier), Ashby, and Sharon (Troy Leblanc), Sydney Mines. Also survived by her four children whom she was so very proud of Kenneth John, Sydney Mines, Jessica Marie, Sidney, B.C., Kaitlin Ann and Ashly Lynn and two grandchildren, Stanley Edward and Michael John, all residing in Calgary, Alta. She was also the proud aunt of James and Sarah LeBlanc, whom loved her dearly. Near and dear to her heart as well is Kayla Sampson and many aunts, uncles and cousins. In accordance with Sheila's wishes, cremation has taken place in Toronto and there will be no funeral service. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Sheila will take place at 10 a.m. on Oct. 12 at Holy Family Parish (formerly St. Pius X) under the care of Fr. John V. Thomas. A light luncheon will follow after the service. George Robert Macdonald George Robert Macdonald of Big Sky, MT and Lake Havasu City, AZ passed away on Oct. 2, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Gina); children, Kathy Macdonald of Phoenix, AZ, James L. (Lenny) Macdonald and his wife Lori of Roanoke, VA, Bryan Kendall and his wife Mary of River Falls, WI, and Justin Kendall of Burnsville, MN; mother, Mary H. Macdonald of Sydney Mines, N.S.; sisters, Kathy Zilbert and her husband Arthur of Halifax, N.S., Lee Harding of North Sydney, N.S., and Marilou Boutilier of North Sydney, N. S.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Macdonald of Sydney Mines, N.S. After beginning his career with Bank of Nova Scotia in Canada, he immigrated to Florida in 1964 and built a long and successful banking career, retiring in 1994 as senior vice-president and regional manager of Capital Management Group for First Union National Bank. He proudly chose to become an American citizen in 1970. He was a longtime member of Rotary International, serving as president in Hollywood, FL, 1979-80. He was a two-time Paul Harris Fellow and an active member of Big Sky Rotary Club. His love of travel began as a boy and blossomed into a great passion, taking him to many parts of the world. In 1997 his travels brought he and Gina to Big Sky, MT, which they loved and never left (except for the cold snowy winter months). In 1992, they discovered hiking. George was an active member of the Big Sky Hikers and Havasu Hikers, which gave him great joy. His favourite hike was Buck Ridge in Big Sky. He enjoyed reading and researching western history, potential travel destinations and the world of finance. There will be no funeral service at this time; however, there will be a "Celebration of Life" in his honour in Big Sky in June 2014.
